NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah (the first year of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon).1 Verbum, quod factum est ad Ieremiam de omni populo Iudae in anno quartoIoachim filii Iosiae regis Iudae — ipse est annus primus Nabuchodonosor regisBabylonis —
2 This word the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem:2 quod locutus est Ieremias propheta ad omnem populum Iudae et aduniversos habitatores Ierusalem dicens:
3 Since the thirteenth year of Josiah, son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day-these three and twenty years-the word of the LORD has come to me and I spoke to you untiringly, but you would not listen.3 “ A tertio decimo anno Iosiae filii Amon regis Iudae usque ad diem hanc,iste tertius et vicesimus est annus, factum est verbum Domini ad me, et locutussum ad vos de nocte consurgens et loquens, et non audistis.
4 Though you refused to listen or pay heed, the LORD has sent you without fail all his servants the prophets4 Et misit Dominusad vos omnes servos suos prophetas, consurgens diluculo mittensque; et nonaudistis neque inclinastis aures vestras, ut audiretis,
5 with this message: Turn back, each of you, from your evil way and from your evil deeds; then you shall remain in the land which the LORD gave you and your fathers, from of old and forever.5 cum diceret: “Revertiminiunusquisque a via sua mala et a pessimis cogitationibus vestris, et habitabitisin terra, quam dedit Dominus vobis et patribus vestris, a saeculo et usque insaeculum;
6 Do not follow strange gods to serve and adore them, lest you provoke me with your handiwork, and I bring evil upon you.6 et nolite ire post deos alienos, ut serviatis eis adoretisque eos,neque me ad iracundiam provocetis in operibus manuum vestrarum, et non affligamvos.
7 But you would not listen to me, says the LORD, and so you provoked me with your handiwork to your own harm.7 Et non audistis me, dicit Dominus, ut me ad iracundiam provocaretis inoperibus manuum vestrarum, in malum vestrum”.
8 Hence, thus says the LORD of hosts: Since you would not listen to my words,8 Propterea haec dicit Dominus exercituum: Pro eo quod non audistis verba mea,
9 lo! I will send for and fetch all the tribes of the north, says the LORD (and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, my servant); I will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against all these neighboring nations. I will doom them, making them an object of horror, of ridicule, of everlasting reproach.9 ecce ego mittam et assumam universas cognationes aquilonis, ait Dominus, etNabuchodonosor regem Babylonis, servum meum, et adducam eos super terram istamet super habitatores eius et super omnes nationes, quae in circuitu illius sunt;et interficiam eos et ponam eos in stuporem et in sibilum et in ruinassempiternas.
10 Among them I will bring to an end the song of joy and the song of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstone and the light of the lamp.10 Perdamque ex eis vocem gaudii et vocem laetitiae, vocem sponsiet vocem sponsae, vocem molae et lumen lucernae,
11 This whole land shall be a ruin and a desert. Seventy years these nations shall be enslaved to the king of Babylon;11 et erit universa terra haecin solitudinem et in stuporem, et servient omnes gentes istae regi Babylonisseptuaginta annis.
12 but when the seventy years have elapsed, I will punish the king of Babylon and the nation and the land of the Chaldeans for their guilt, says the LORD. Their land I will turn into everlasting desert.12 Cumque impleti fuerint septuaginta anni, visitabo superregem Babylonis et super gentem illam, dicit Dominus, iniquitatem eorum et superterram Chaldaeorum; et ponam illam in solitudines sempiternas.
13 Against that land I will fulfill all the words I have spoken against it (all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations).13 Et adducamsuper terram illam omnia verba mea, quae locutus sum contra eam, omne, quodscriptum est in libro isto, quaecumque prophetavit Ieremias adversum omnesgentes.
14 They also shall be enslaved to great nations and mighty kings, and thus I will repay them according to their own deeds and according to their own handiwork.14 Quia servient eis etiam illi, gentes multae et reges magni, et reddameis secundum opera eorum et secundum facta manuum suarum ”.
15 For thus said the LORD, the God of Israel, to me: Take this cup of foaming wine from my hand, and have all the nations to whom I will send you drink it.15 Quia sic dicit Dominus, Deus Israel, ad me: “ Sume calicem vini furorishuius de manu mea et propinabis de illo cunctis gentibus, ad quas ego mittam te;
16 They shall drink, and be convulsed, and go mad, because of the sword I will send among them.16 et bibent et turbabuntur et insanient a facie gladii, quem ego mittam intereos ”.
17 I took the cup from the hand of the LORD and gave drink to all the nations to which the LORD sent me:17 Et accepi calicem de manu Domini et propinavi cunctis gentibus, ad quas misitme Dominus,
18 (Jerusalem, the cities of Judah, her kings and her princes, to make them a ruin and a desert, an object of ridicule and cursing, as they are today;)18 Ierusalem et civitatibus Iudae et regibus eius et principibuseius, ut darem eos in solitudinem et in stuporem, in sibilum et inmaledictionem, sicut est dies ista;
19 Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and his servants, his princes, all the people under him, native19 pharaoni regi Aegypti et servis eius etprincipibus eius et omni populo eius;
20 and foreign; all the kings of the land of Uz; all the kings of the land of the Philistines: Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;20 et omni vulgo promiscuo et cunctisregibus terrae Us et cunctis regibus terrae Philisthim et Ascaloni et Gazae etAccaroni et reliquiis Azoti,
21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites;21 Edom et Moab et filiis Ammon;
22 all the kings of Tyre, of Sidon, and of the shores beyond the sea;22 et cunctisregibus Tyri et universis regibus Sidonis et regibus terrae insularum, qui sunttrans mare;
23 Dedan and Tema and Buz, all the desert dwellers who shave their temples;23 et Dedan et Thema et Buz et universis, qui attonsi sunt in comam;
24 (all the kings of Arabia;)24 et cunctis regibus Arabiae et cunctis regibus vulgi promiscui, qui habitantin deserto,
25 all the kings of Zimri, of Elam, of the Medes;25 et cunctis regibus Zimri et cunctis regibus Elam et cunctisregibus Medorum,
26 all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other; all the kingdoms upon the face of the earth (and after them the king of Sheshach shall drink).26 cunctis quoque regibus aquilonis de prope et de longe,unicuique post fratrem suum et omnibus regnis terrae, quae super faciem eiussunt; et rex Sesach bibet post eos.
27 Tell them: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink! become drunk and vomit; fall, never to rise, before the sword that I will send among you!27 “ Et dices ad eos: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israel: Bibite etinebriamini et vomite; et cadite neque surgatis a facie gladii, quem ego mittaminter vos.
28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, say to them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: You must drink!28 Cumque noluerint accipere calicem de manu tua, ut bibant, dices adeos: Haec dicit Dominus exercituum: Bibentes bibetis;
29 For since with this city, which is called by my name, I begin to inflict evil, how can you possibly be spared? You shall not be spared! I will call down the sword upon all who inhabit the earth, says the LORD of hosts.29 quia ecce in civitate,super quam invocatum est nomen meum, ego incipio affligere, et vos immuneseritis? Non eritis immunes; gladium enim ego voco super omnes habitatoresterrae, dicit Dominus exercituum.
30 Prophesy against them all these things and say to them: The LORD roars from on high, from his holy dwelling he raises his voice; Mightily he roars over the range, a shout like that of vintagers over the grapes.30 Et tu prophetabis ad eos omnia verba haec et dices ad illos:
Dominus de excelso rugiet
et de habitaculo sancto suo dabit vocem suam;
rugiens rugiet super pascua sua,
celeuma quasi calcantium concinetur
adversus omnes habitatores terrae.
31 To all who inhabit the earth to its very ends the uproar spreads; For the LORD has an indictment against the nations, he is to pass judgment upon all mankind: The godless shall be given to the sword, says the LORD.31 Pervenit sonitus usque ad extrema terrae,
quia iudicium Domino cum gentibus;
in iudicium venit ipse cum omni carne;
impios tradidit gladio,
dicit Dominus.
32 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Lo! calamity stalks from nation to nation; A great storm is unleashed from the ends of the earth.32 Haec dicit Dominus exercituum:
Ecce afflictio egreditur de gente in gentem,
et turbo magnus surgit a summitatibus terrae ”.
33 On that day, those whom the LORD has slain will be strewn from one end of the earth to the other. None will mourn them, none will gather them for burial; they shall lie like dung on the field.33 Et erunt interfecti Domini in die illa a summo terrae usque ad summum eius;non plangentur et non colligentur neque sepelientur: in sterquilinium superfaciem terrae erunt.
34 Howl, you shepherds, and wail! roll in the dust, leaders of the flock! The time for your slaughter has come; like choice rams you shall fall.34 Ululate, pastores, et clamate;
et volutamini vos in pulvere, optimates gregis,
quia completi sunt dies vestri ad occisionem
et ad dispersionem vestram,
et cadetis quasi vasa pretiosa.
35 There is no flight for the shepherds, no escape for the leaders of the flock.35 Et peribit fuga a pastoribus,
et salvatio ab optimatibus gregis.
36 Listen! Wailing from the shepherds, howling by the leaders of the flock! For the LORD lays waste their grazing place,36 Vox clamoris pastorum
et ululatus optimatium gregis,
quia vastavit Dominus pascua eorum.
37 desolate lie the peaceful pastures;37 Et conticuerunt arva pacis
a facie irae furoris Domini.
38 The lion leaves his lair, and their land is made desolate By the sweeping sword, by the burning wrath of the LORD.38 Dereliquit quasi leo umbraculum suum,
quia facta est terra eorum in desolationem,
a facie irae violentae
et a facie irae furoris Domini.
