Jeremiah 16

1 This message came to me from the LORD:	1 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
2 Do not marry any woman; you shall not have sons or daughters in this place,	2 "Non prenderti una moglie, non aver figli né figlie in questo luogo.
3 for thus says the LORD concerning the sons and daughters who will be born in this place, the mothers who will give them birth, the fathers who will beget them in this land:	3 Così, infatti, dice il Signore contro i figli e contro le figlie generati in questo luogo e contro le loro madri che li hanno partoriti e contro i loro padri che li hanno generati in questo paese:
4 Of deadly disease they shall die. Unlamented and unburied they will lie like dung on the ground. Sword and famine will make an end of them, and their corpses will become food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field.	4 di morti orrende moriranno; non verranno lamentati né sepolti, saranno come letame sulla superficie del suolo, saranno sterminati con la spada e con la fame e i loro cadaveri saranno pasto per i volatili del cielo e per le bestie del paese.
5 Go not into a house of mourning, the LORD continued: go not there to lament or offer sympathy. For I have withdrawn my friendship from this people, says the LORD, my kindness and my pity.	5 Sì, così dice il Signore: Non entrare nella casa del lutto e non partecipare al pianto né compiangerli, perché io ho ritirato la mia amicizia da questo popolo, oracolo del Signore, la pietà e la misericordia.
6 They shall die, the great and the lowly, in this land, and shall go unburied and unlamented. No one will gash himself or shave his head for them.	6 Moriranno grandi e piccoli in questo paese; non saranno sepolti, né vi sarà pianto per essi e non si farà incisione né rasatura per essi.
7 They will not break bread with the bereaved to console them in their bereavement; they will not give them the cup of consolation to drink over the death of father or mother.	7 Non si spezzerà pane per chi è in lutto, per consolarlo della morte, neppure verseranno con loro il calice delle consolazioni per il proprio padre e per la propria madre.
8 Enter not a house where people are celebrating, to sit with them eating and drinking.	8 Non entrare a sederti con loro nella casa del banchetto per mangiare e per bere.
9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Before your very eyes and during your lifetime I will silence from this place the cry of joy and the cry of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.	9 Così, infatti, dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele: Eccomi a far cessare da questo luogo, sotto i vostri occhi e nei vostri giorni, la voce di giubilo e la voce della letizia, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa.
10 When you proclaim all these words to this people and they ask you: "Why has the LORD pronounced all these great evils against us? What is our crime? What sin have we committed against the LORD, our God?"--	10 Quando tu avrai annunciato a questo popolo tutte queste cose, allora ti diranno: "Perché il Signore ha pronunciato contro di noi tutte queste grandi malvagità e qual è la nostra iniquità e quali i nostri peccati che abbiamo commesso contro il Signore, nostro Dio?".
11 you shall answer them: It is because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and followed strange gods, which they served and worshiped; but me they have forsaken, and my law they have not observed.	11 Allora risponderai loro: Perché i vostri padri hanno abbandonato me, oracolo del Signore, e sono andati dietro altri dèi e li hanno serviti e si sono prostrati dinanzi a loro, mentre hanno abbandonato me e non hanno custodito la mia legge.
12 And you have done worse than your fathers. Here you are, every one of you, walking in the hardness of his evil heart instead of listening to me.	12 Voi, però, avete agito peggio dei vostri padri ed eccovi che seguite ciascuno la durezza del vostro cuore malvagio, senza ascoltarmi.
13 I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known; there you can serve strange gods day and night, because I will not grant you my mercy.	13 Perciò vi farò scacciare da questo paese verso un paese che non conoscete, né voi né i vostri padri, e ivi servirete altri dèi giorno e notte, perché io non vi farò grazia!".
14 However, days will surely come, says the LORD, when it will no longer be said, "As the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites out of Egypt";	14 "Pertanto, ecco, vengono giorni, oracolo del Signore, e non si dirà più: "Per la vita del Signore che fece ascendere i figli d'Israele dal paese d'Egitto",
15 but rather, "As the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites out of the land of the north and out of all the countries to which he had banished them." I will bring them back to the land which I gave their fathers.	15 bensì: "Vivente il Signore, che ha fatto uscire i figli di Israele dal paese del nord e da tutti i paesi dove li aveva dispersi e li ha fatti ritornare sulla loro terra che aveva dato ai loro padri".
16 Look! I will send many fishermen, says the LORD, to catch them. After that, I will send many hunters to hunt them out from every mountain and hill and from the clefts of the rocks.	16 Eccomi: io invierò molti pescatori, oracolo del Signore, e li pescheranno; e dopo ciò invierò molti cacciatori e li cacceranno da ogni monte e ogni colle e dalle fessure delle rocce.
17 For my eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor does their guilt escape my view.	17 Sì, i miei occhi sono su tutte le loro vie, non sono nascoste dinanzi a me, né può occultarsi la loro iniquità dinanzi agli occhi miei.
18 I will at once repay them double for their crime and their sin of profaning my land with their detestable corpses of idols, and filling my heritage with their abominations.	18 Ma prima ricompenserò nel doppio la loro iniquità e i loro peccati perché hanno profanato la mia terra con i cadaveri del loro obbrobrio e con le loro abominazioni hanno riempito la mia eredità".
19 O LORD, my strength, my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress! To you will the nations come from the ends of the earth, and say, "Mere frauds are the heritage of our fathers, empty idols of no use."	19 Signore, mia forza e mia fortezza, mio rifugio nel giorno dell'angustia, a te le nazioni verranno dall'estremità della terra e diranno: "Solo menzogna ereditarono i nostri padri, nullità e senza profitto".
20 Can man make for himself gods? These are not gods.	20 Può farsi l'uomo degli dèi mentre essi non sono dèi?
21 Look, then: I will give them knowledge; this time I will leave them in no doubt Of my strength and my power: they shall know that my name is LORD.	21 Per questo, eccomi: farò loro conoscere, questa volta, mostrerò loro la mia mano e la mia potenza, e conosceranno che il mio nome è il Signore!
