Leviticus 20

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 The LORD said to Moses,	1 Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
2 "Tell the Israelites: Anyone, whether an Israelite or an alien residing in Israel, who gives any of his offspring to Molech shall be put to death. Let his fellow citizens stone him.	2 Tu diras aux Israélites: Quiconque, Israélite ou étranger résidant en Israël, livre de ses fils àMolek devra mourir. Les gens du pays le lapideront,
3 I myself will turn against such a man and cut him off from the body of his people; for in giving his offspring to Molech, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name.	3 je me tournerai contre cet homme et le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple, car en ayant livrél'un de ses fils à Molek il aura souillé mon sanctuaire et profané mon saint nom.
4 Even if his fellow citizens connive at such a man's crime of giving his offspring to Molech, and fail to put him to death,	4 Si les gens du pays veulent fermer les yeux sur cet homme quand il livre l'un de ses fils à Moleket ne le mettent pas à mort,
5 I myself will set my face against that man and his family and will cut off from their people both him and all who join him in his wanton worship of Molech.	5 c'est moi qui m'opposerai à cet homme et à son clan. Je les retrancherai du milieu de leur peuple,lui et tous ceux qui après lui iront se prostituer à la suite de Molek.
6 Should anyone turn to mediums and fortune-tellers and follow their wanton ways, I will turn against such a one and cut him off from his people.	6 Celui qui s'adressera aux spectres et aux devins pour se prostituer à leur suite, je me tourneraicontre cet homme-là et je le retrancherai du milieu de son peuple.
7 Sanctify yourselves, then, and be holy; for I, the LORD, your God, am holy.	7 Vous vous sanctifierez pour être saints, car je suis Yahvé votre Dieu.
8 Be careful, therefore, to observe what I, the LORD, who make you holy, have prescribed.	8 Vous garderez mes lois et vous les mettrez en pratique, car c'est moi Yahvé qui vous rendssaints.
9 "Anyone who curses his father or mother shall be put to death; since he has cursed his father or mother, he has forfeited his life.	9 Donc: Quiconque maudira son père ou sa mère devra mourir. Puisqu'il a maudit son père ou samère, son sang retombera sur lui-même.
10 If a man commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.	10 L'homme qui commet l'adultère avec la femme de son prochain devra mourir, lui et sacomplice.
11 If a man disgraces his father by lying with his father's wife, both the man and his stepmother shall be put to death; they have forfeited their lives.	11 L'homme qui couche avec la femme de son père a découvert la nudité de son père. Tous deuxdevront mourir, leur sang retombera sur eux.
12 If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall be put to death; since they have committed an abhorrent deed, they have forfeited their lives.	12 L'homme qui couche avec sa belle-fille: tous deux devront mourir. Ils se sont souillés, leur sangretombera sur eux.
13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.	13 L'homme qui couche avec un homme comme on couche avec une femme: c'est uneabomination qu'ils ont tous deux commise, ils devront mourir, leur sang retombera sur eux.
14 If a man marries a woman and her mother also, the man and the two women as well shall be burned to death for their shameful conduct, so that such shamefulness may not be found among you.	14 L'homme qui prend pour épouses une femme et sa mère: c'est un inceste. On les brûlera, lui etelles, pour qu'il n'y ait point chez vous d'inceste.
15 If a man has carnal relations with an animal, the man shall be put to death, and the animal shall be slain.	15 L'homme qui donne sa couche à une bête: il devra mourir et vous tuerez la bête.
16 If a woman goes up to any animal to mate with it, the woman and the animal shall be slain; let them both be put to death; their lives are forfeit.	16 La femme qui s'approche d'un animal quelconque pour s'accoupler à lui: tu tueras la femme etl'animal. Ils devront mourir, leur sang retombera sur eux.
17 If a man consummates marriage with his sister or his half-sister, they shall be publicly cut off from their people for this shameful deed; the man shall pay the penalty of having had intercourse with his own sister.	17 L'homme qui prend pour épouse sa soeur, la fille de son père ou la fille de sa mère: s'il voit sanudité et qu'elle voie la sienne, c'est une ignominie. Ils seront exterminés sous les yeux des membres de leurpeuple, car il a découvert la nudité de sa soeur et il portera le poids de sa faute.
18 If a man lies in sexual intercourse with a woman during her menstrual period, both of them shall be cut off from their people, because they have laid bare the flowing fountain of her blood.	18 L'homme qui couche avec une femme pendant ses règles et découvre sa nudité: il a mis à nu lasource de son sang, elle-même a découvert la source de son sang, aussi tous deux seront retranchés du milieu deleur peuple.
19 You shall not have intercourse with your mother's sister or your father's sister; whoever does so shall pay the penalty of incest.	19 Tu ne découvriras pas la nudité de la soeur de ta mère ni celle de la soeur de ton père. Il a mis ànu sa propre chair, ils porteront le poids de leur faute.
20 If a man disgraces his uncle by having intercourse with his uncle's wife, the man and his aunt shall pay the penalty by dying childless.	20 L'homme qui couche avec la femme de son oncle paternel: il a découvert la nudité de celui-ci,ils porteront le poids de leur péché et mourront sans enfant.
21 If a man marries his brother's wife and thus disgraces his brother, they shall be childless because of this incest.	21 L'homme qui prend pour épouse la femme de son frère: c'est une souillure, il a découvert lanudité de son frère, ils mourront sans enfant.
22 "Be careful to observe all my statutes and all my decrees; otherwise the land where I am bringing you to dwell will vomit you out.	22 Vous garderez toutes mes lois, toutes mes coutumes, et vous les mettrez en pratique; ainsi nevous vomira pas le pays où je vous conduis pour y demeurer.
23 Do not conform, therefore, to the customs of the nations whom I am driving out of your way, because all these things that they have done have filled me with disgust for them.	23 Vous ne suivrez pas les lois des nations que je chasse devant vous car elles ont pratiqué toutesces choses et je les ai prises en dégoût.
24 But to you I have said: Their land shall be your possession, a land flowing with milk and honey. I am giving it to you as your own, I, the LORD, your God, who have set you apart from the other nations.	24 Aussi vous ai-je dit: "Vous prendrez possession de leur sol, je vous en donnerai moi-même lapossession, une terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel." C'est moi Yahvé votre Dieu qui vous ai mis à part de cespeuples.
25 You, too, must set apart, then, the clean animals from the unclean, and the clean birds from the unclean, so that you may not be contaminated with the uncleanness of any beast or bird or of any swarming creature in the land that I have set apart for you.	25 Mettez donc la bête pure à part de l'impure, l'oiseau pur à part de l'impur. Ne vous rendez pasvous-mêmes immondes avec ces bêtes, ces oiseaux, avec tout ce qui rampe sur le sol: je vous les ai fait mettre àpart comme impurs.
26 To me, therefore, you shall be sacred; for I, the LORD, am sacred, I, who have set you apart from the other nations to be my own.	26 Soyez-moi consacrés puisque moi, Yahvé, je suis saint, et je vous mettrai à part de tous cespeuples pour que vous soyez à moi.
27 "A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortune-teller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death."	27 L'homme ou la femme qui parmi vous serait nécromant ou devin: ils seront mis à mort, on leslapidera, leur sang retombera sur eux.
