Isaiah 64

1 As when brushwood is set ablaze, or fire makes the water boil! Thus your name would be made known to your enemies and the nations would tremble before you,	1 come quando il fuoco incendia i rami secchi, come il fuoco fa bollire l'acqua per manifestare il tuo nome ai tuoi nemici: e far tremare al tuo cospetto le nazioni!
2 While you wrought awesome deeds we could not hope for,	2 Perché tu compi cose terribili che non attendevamo
3 such as they had not heard of from of old. No ear has ever heard, no eye ever seen, any God but you doing such deeds for those who wait for him.	3 e di cui dall'antichità nessuno ha udito parlare. Orecchio non ha udito né occhio ha visto un Dio, all'infuori di te, che agisca così, in favore di quegli che confida in lui.
4 Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways! Behold, you are angry, and we are sinful;	4 Tu vai incontro a quanti praticano la giustizia e si ricordano delle tue vie. Ecco, tu ti sei adirato e noi abbiamo peccato, da tempo ci siamo ribellati contro di te.
5 all of us have become like unclean men, all our good deeds are like polluted rags; We have all withered like leaves, and our guilt carries us away like the wind.	5 Tutti noi eravamo come una cosa impura, tutti i nostri atti di giustizia come un panno immondo. Tutti noi avvizzimmo come foglie e le nostre iniquità ci portano via come vento.
6 There is none who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to cling to you; For you have hidden your face from us and have delivered us up to our guilt.	6 Non c'è nessuno che invochi il tuo nome, che sorga per appoggiarsi su di te, poiché hai nascosto a noi la tua faccia, ci hai consegnato in balia delle nostre colpe.
7 Yet, O LORD, you are our father; we are the clay and you the potter: we are all the work of your hands.	7 Eppure, Signore, tu sei il nostro padre; noi siamo l'argilla, tu colui che ci ha plasmato; noi tutti siamo opera della tua mano.
8 Be not so very angry, LORD, keep not our guilt forever in mind; look upon us, who are all your people.	8 Signore, non adirarti troppo! Non ricordarti per sempre dell'iniquità! Ecco, guarda, tutti noi siamo il tuo popolo.
9 Your holy cities have become a desert, Zion is a desert, Jerusalem a waste.	9 Le tue sante città sono diventate un deserto, Sion è diventata un deserto, Gerusalemme una desolazione.
10 Our holy and glorious temple in which our fathers praised you Has been burned with fire; all that was dear to us is laid waste.	10 Il nostro tempio santo e splendido, nel quale ti lodarono i nostri padri, è diventato preda del fuoco e tutte le nostre cose preziose sono state distrutte.
11 Can you hold back, O LORD, after all this? Can you remain silent, and afflict us so severely?	11 Forse tu, Signore, rimarrai insensibile a tutto questo, starai silenzioso e ci umilierai ancora molto?
