Isaiah 5

1 Let me now sing of my friend, my friend's song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside;	1 Voy a cantar en nombre de mi amigo el canto de mi amado a su viña. Mi amigo tenía una viña en una loma fértil.
2 He spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; Within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes.	2 La cavó, la limpió de piedras y la plantó con cepas escogidas; edificó una torre en medio de ella y también excavó un lagar. El esperaba que diera uvas, pero dio frutos agrios.
3 Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard:	3 Y ahora, habitantes de Jerusalén y hombres de Judá, sean ustedes los jueces entre mi viña y yo.
4 What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?	4 ¿Qué más se podía hacer por mi viña que yo no lo haya hecho? Si esperaba que diera uvas, ¿por qué dio frutos agrios?
5 Now, I will let you know what I mean to do to my vineyard: Take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled!	5 Y ahora les haré conocer lo que haré con mi viña; Quitaré su valla, y será destruida, derribaré su cerco y será pisoteada.
6 Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it.	6 La convertiré en una ruina, y no será podada ni escardada. Crecerán los abrojos y los cardos, y mandaré a las nubes que no derramen, lluvia sobre ella.
7 The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his cherished plant; He looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!	7 Porque la viña del Señor de los ejércitos es la casa de Israel, y los hombres de Judá son su plantación predilecta. ¡El esperó de ellos equidad. y hay efusión de sangre; esperó justicia, y hay gritos de angustia!
8 Woe to you who join house to house, who connect field with field, Till no room remains, and you are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land!	8 ¡Ay de los que acumulan una casa tras otra y anexionan un campo a otro, hasta no dejar más espacio y habitar ustedes solos en medio del país!
9 In my hearing the LORD of hosts has sworn: Many houses shall be in ruins, large ones and fine, with no one to live in them.	9 El Señor de los ejércitos lo ha jurado a mi oído: Sí, muchas mansiones, grandes y hermosas, quedarán desoladas, por falta de habitantes.
10 Ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one liquid measure, And a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.	10 Porque diez yugadas de viña no darán más que un tonel, y diez medidas de semillas producirán una sola.
11 Woe to those who demand strong drink as soon as they rise in the morning, And linger into the night while wine inflames them!	11 ¡Ay de los que madrugan para correr tras la bebida, y hasta muy entrada la noche se acaloran con el vino!
12 With harp and lyre, timbrel and flute, they feast on wine; But what the LORD does, they regard not, the work of his hands they see not.	12 Hay cítara y arpa, tamboriles y flautas y vino en sus banquetes; pero ellos no miran la acción del Señor ni ven la obra de sus manos.
13 Therefore my people go into exile, because they do not understand; Their nobles die of hunger, and their masses are parched with thirst.	13 Por eso mi pueblo será deportado por falta de conocimiento; sus nobles morirán de hambre y su muchedumbre se abrasará de sed.
14 Therefore the nether world enlarges its throat and opens its maw without limit; Down go their nobility and their masses, their throngs and their revelry.	14 Por eso el Abismo dilata su garganta, abre sus fauces desmesuradamente, y allí se precipitan el esplendor de la ciudad y su muchedumbre, su tumulto y sus festejos.
15 Men shall be abased, each one brought low, and the eyes of the haughty lowered,	15 El hombre será doblegado, el mortal, humillado, y serán humillados los ojos altaneros;
16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted by his judgment, and God the Holy shall be shown holy by his justice.	16 pero el Señor de los ejércitos será exaltado por su rectitud, y el Dios santo se mostrará santo por su justicia.
17 Lambs shall graze there at pasture, and kids shall eat in the ruins of the rich.	17 Los corderos pacerán como en sus praderas y en las ruinas engordarán los cabritos.
18 Woe to those who tug at guilt with cords of perversity, and at sin as if with cart ropes!	18 ¡Ay de los que arrastran la culpa con las cuerdas de la falsedad, y tiran del pecado como con las riendas de un carro!
19 To those who say, "Let him make haste and speed his work, that we may see it; On with the plan of the Holy One of Israel! let it come to pass, that we may know it!"	19 Los que dicen: «¡Que se apure. que haga pronto su obra, para que la veamos que se acerque y llegue el designio del Santo de Israel, para que podamos conocerlo!».
20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!	20 ¡Ay de los que llaman bien al mal y mal al bien. de los que cambian las tinieblas en luz y la luz en tinieblas. de los que vuelven dulce lo amargo y amargo lo dulce!
21 Woe to those who are wise in their own sight, and prudent in their own esteem!	21 ¡Ay de los que se tienen por sabios y se creen muy inteligentes!
22 Woe to the champions at drinking wine, the valiant at mixing strong drink!	22 ¡Ay de los valientes para beber vino y de los campeones para mezclar bebidas,
23 To those who acquit the guilty for bribes, and deprive the just man of his rights!	23 de los que absuelven por soborno al culpable y privan al justo de su derecho!
24 Therefore, as the tongue of fire licks up stubble, as dry grass shrivels in the flame, Even so their root shall become rotten and their blossom scatter like dust; For they have spurned the law of the LORD of hosts, and scorned the word of the Holy One of Israel.	24 Por eso, como la lengua de fuego devora la paja y la hierba seca se consume en la llama, así su raíz será como podredumbre y su brote se disipará como el polvo, porque rechazaron la ley del Señor de los ejércitos y despreciaron la palabra del Santo de Israel.
25 Therefore the wrath of the LORD blazes against his people, he raises his hand to strike them; When the mountains quake, their corpses shall be like refuse in the streets. For all this, his wrath is not turned back, and his hand is still outstretched.	25 Por eso la ira del Señor se enciende contra su pueblo: el Señor extiende su mano contra él y lo golpea. se estremecen las montañas y sus cadáveres son como basura en medio de las calles. A pesar de todo esto, no se aplacó su ira y su mano está aún extendida.
26 He will give a signal to a far-off nation, and whistle to them from the ends of the earth; speedily and promptly will they come.	26 El alza una insignia para una nación lejana, la llama con un silbido desde el extremo de la tierra. y ella acude veloz, rápidamente.
27 None of them will stumble with weariness, none will slumber and none will sleep. None will have his waist belt loose, nor the thong of his sandal broken.	27 Nadie siente cansancio ni tropieza, nadie dormita ni duerme, a nadie se le desata el cinturón ni se le rompe la correa del calzado.
28 Their arrows are sharp, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of their horses seem like flint, and their chariot wheels like the hurricane.	28 Sus flechas son filosas, están tensos todos sus arcos; los cascos de sus caballos son como pedernal, las ruedas de sus carros, como torbellinos.
29 Their roar is that of the lion, like the lion's whelps they roar; They growl and seize the prey, they carry it off and none will rescue it.	29 Su rugido es el de una leona, ruge como los cachorros de león: brama y se apodera de la presa, la arrebata y nadie puede librarla.
30 (They will roar over it, on that day, with a roaring like that of the sea.)	30 Aquel día, lanzará un bramido contra ella como el bramido del mar, Mirarán a la tierra, y sólo habrá tinieblas y angustia, la luz será oscurecida por sombríos nubarrones.
