1 Call now! Will anyone respond to you? To which of the holy ones will you appeal?	1 Grida, dunque! C'è forse qualcuno che ti risponde? A chi tra i santi ti rivolgerai?
2 Nay, impatience kills the fool and indignation slays the simpleton.	2 In verità, il dolore reca la morte allo stolto e la collera fa morire l'inesperto.
3 I have seen a fool spreading his roots, but his household suddenly decayed.	3 Ho visto l'insensato mettere radici, e subito vidi maledetta la sua dimora.
4 His children shall be far from safety; they shall be crushed at the gate without a rescuer.	4 I suoi figli sono privi di aiuto, sono oppressi in tribunale senza difensore.
5 What they have reaped the hungry shall eat up; (or God shall take it away by blight;) and the thirsty shall swallow their substance.	5 Le loro messi le divora l'affamato, rubandole malgrado le siepi, e l'assetato ne inghiotte gli averi.
6 For mischief comes not out of the earth, nor does trouble spring out of the ground;	6 Certo, la sventura non nasce dal suolo e la disgrazia non germoglia dalla terra,
7 But man himself begets mischief, as sparks fly upward.	7 ma è l'uomo che genera la miseria, come le aquile volano in alto.
8 In your place, I would appeal to God, and to God I would state my plea.	8 Quanto a me, mi rivolgerei a Dio, a Dio affiderei la mia causa,
9	9 a lui che compie prodigi insondabili e meraviglie senza numero,
10 He gives rain upon the earth and sends water upon the fields;	10 che manda la pioggia sulla terra e versa le acque sulle campagne;
11 He sets up on high the lowly, and those who mourn he exalts to safety.	11 innalza gli umili e gli afflitti solleva a prosperità.
12 He frustrates the plans of the cunning, so that their hands achieve no success;	12 Rende vani i piani degli astuti, così che le loro mani non realizzino le loro previsioni.
13 He catches the wise in their own ruses, and the designs of the crafty are routed.	13 Accalappia i sapienti nelle loro astuzie e fa abortire gli intrighi degli scaltri.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and at noonday they grope as though it were night.	14 In pieno giorno incappano nelle tenebre e a mezzogiorno brancolano come di notte.
15 But the poor from the edge of the sword and from the hand of the mighty, he saves.	15 Così Dio salva il povero dalla lingua affilata, dalla mano violenta.
16 Thus the unfortunate have hope, and iniquity closes her mouth.	16 C'è una speranza per il misero, mentre l'ingiustizia chiude la bocca.
17 Happy is the man whom God reproves! The Almighty's chastening do not reject.	17 Perciò felice l'uomo che Dio corregge. Non ricusare, dunque, la lezione dell'Onnipotente!
18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands give healing.	18 Veramente, è lui che produce la piaga e la medica, colpisce e con le sue mani risana.
19 Out of six troubles he will deliver you, and at the seventh no evil shall touch you.	19 Da sei angustie ti libererà, e alla settima non soffrirai nessun male.
20 In famine he will deliver you from death, and in war from the threat of the sword;	20 In tempo di fame ti scamperà dalla morte e nel combattimento dal filo della spada.
21 From the scourge of the tongue you shall be hidden, and shall not fear approaching ruin.	21 Sarai al riparo dalla lingua pungente e non avrai timore, quando giunge la rovina.
22 At destruction and want you shall laugh; the beasts of the earth you need not dread.	22 Te ne riderai della sventura e della fame e non temerai le fiere della campagna.
23 You shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the wild beasts shall be at peace with you.	23 Farai un'alleanza con le pietre del campo e sarai in pace con le bestie selvagge.
24 And you shall know that your tent is secure; taking stock of your household, you shall miss nothing.	24 Sperimenterai la prosperità della tua tenda e ispezionando la tua dimora, non ti mancherà nulla.
25 You shall know that your descendants are many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.	25 Scoprirai che la tua prole è numerosa, e i tuoi rampolli come l'erba del prato.
26 You shall approach the grave in full vigor, as a shock of grain comes in at its season.	26 Te ne andrai alla tomba senza acciacchi, come il grano raccolto nella sua stagione.
