1 On hearing what had happened, those still in their tents were amazed,	1 Appena fu conosciuto da tutto l'esercito che Oloferne era stato decapitato, essi rimasero senza ragione e senza consiglio, e non sentendo più che la paura e lo spavento, cercarono scampo nella fuga.
2 and overcome with fear and trembling. No one kept ranks any longer; they scattered in all directions, and fled along every road, both through the valley and in the mountains.	2 Senza fiatare coi compagni, a capo basso, abbandonate tutte le loro cose, impazienti di sfuggire agli ebrei che sentivano venire armati sopra di loro, fuggivano attraverso i campi e pei sentieri delle colline.
3 Those also who were stationed in the mountain district around Bethulia took to flight. Then all the Israelite warriors overwhelmed them.	3 I figli d'Israele, vedendoli fuggire, l'inseguirono, e discesero sonando le trombe e urlando dietro ad essi;
4 Uzziah sent messengers to Betomasthaim, to Choba and Kona, and to the whole country of Israel to report what had happened, that all might fall upon the enemy and destroy them.	4 e, siccome gli Assiri fuggivano sparpagliati e a precipizio, i figli d'Israele, che l'inseguivano uniti in un sol corpo, facevano a pezzi tutti quelli che potevano trovare.
5 On hearing this, all the Israelites, with one accord, attacked them and cut them down as far as Choba. Even those from Jerusalem and the rest of the mountain region took part in this, for they too had been notified of the happenings in the camp of their enemies. The Gileadites and the Galileans struck the enemy's flanks with great slaughter, even beyond Damascus and its territory.	5 Avendo poi Ozia spedito messi in tutte le città e contrade d'Israele,
6 The remaining inhabitants of Bethulia swept down on the camp of the Assyrians, plundered it, and acquired great riches.	6 ogni contrada e ogni città mandò gioventù armata e scelta contro gli Assiri, e così l'inseguirono colla punta della spada finché non giunsero agli ultimi loro confini.
7 The Israelites who returned from the slaughter took possession of what was left, till the towns and villages in the mountains and on the plain were crammed with the enormous quantity of booty they had seized.	7 Quelli poi che eran rimasti in Betulia, entrarono nel campo degli Assiri e ne portaron via la preda che gli Assiri avevan lasciata fuggendo, e ne furon carichi oltremodo.
8 The high priest Joakim and the elders of the Israelites, who dwelt in Jerusalem, came to see for themselves the good things that the Lord had done for Israel, and to meet and congratulate Judith.	8 Quelli che vittoriosi tornarono a Betulia, portaron con sè tutto quello che era stato degli Assiri tanto che non potevan contarsi le mandre, i giumenti e tutte le loro suppellettili; tutti, dal più piccolo al più grande, divennero ricchi colle loro spoglie.
9 When they had visited her, all with one accord blessed her, saying: "You are the glory of Jerusalem, the surpassing joy of Israel; You are the splendid boast of our people.	9 Allora il sommo sacerdote Ioachim andò da Gerusalemme a Betulia con tutti i suoi anziani, per vedere Giuditta.
10 With your own hand you have done all this; You have done good to Israel, and God is pleased with what you have wrought. May you be blessed by the Lord Almighty forever and ever!" And all the people answered, "Amen!"	10 Essa andò ad incontrarlo, e tutti la benedissero, ad una voce, dicendo: « Tu sei la gloria di Gerusalemme, tu la letizia d'Israele, tu l'onore del nostro popolo;
11 For thirty days the whole populace plundered the camp, giving Judith the tent of Holofernes, with all his silver, his couches, his dishes, and all his furniture, which she accepted. She harnessed her mules, hitched her wagons to them, and loaded these things on them.	11 perchè hai agito virilmente, e il tuo cuore è stato forte; perchè hai amato la castigtà e dopo il tuo matrimonio non hai conosciuto altro uomo, per dquesto la mano del Signore ti ha resa forte, per questo sarai begnedetta in eterno ».
12 All the women of Israel gathered to see her; and they blessed her and performed a dance in her honor. She took branches in her hands and distributed them to the women around her,	12 Tutto il popolo disse: « Così sia, così sia! »
13 and she and the other women crowned themselves with garlands of olive leaves. At the head of all the people, she led the women in the dance, while the men of Israel followed in their armor, wearing garlands and singing hymns.	13 Trenta giorni bastarono appena al popolo d'Israele per raccogliere le spoglie degli Assiri
14 Judith led all Israel in this song of thanksgiving, and the people swelled this hymn of praise:	14 e tutto ciò che fu riconosciuto come proprietà d'Oloferne, oro, argento, vestiti, gemme e mobili d'ogni specie, lo diedero a Giuditta, fu tutto consegnato a lei dal popolo.
	15 E tutti i popoli face van festa colle donne, coliti vergini e coi giovani a suon d'organi e dì cetre.
