1 Hezekiah sent a message to all Israel and Judah, and even wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh saying that they should come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover in honor of the LORD, the God of Israel.	1 Ezechia mandò messaggeri per tutto Israele e Giuda e scrisse anche lettere a Èfraim e a Manàsse per convocare tutti nel tempio in Gerusalemme a celebrare la pasqua per il Signore Dio di Israele.
2 The king, his princes, and the entire assembly in Jerusalem had agreed to celebrate the Passover during the second month,	2 Il re, i suoi ufficiali e tutta l'assemblea di Gerusalemme decisero di celebrare la pasqua nel secondo mese,
3 for they could not celebrate it at the time of the restoration: the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient numbers, and the people were not gathered at Jerusalem.	3 perché non avevano potuto celebrarla nel tempo fissato per il fatto che i sacerdoti non si erano purificati in numero sufficiente e il popolo non si era radunato in Gerusalemme.
4 When this proposal had been approved by the king and the entire assembly,	4 La proposta piacque al re e a tutta l'assemblea.
5 they issued a decree to be proclaimed throughout all Israel from Beer-sheba to Dan, that everyone should come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover in honor of the LORD, the God of Israel; for not many had kept it in the manner prescribed.	5 Stabilirono di proclamare con bando in tutto Israele, da Bersabea a Dan, che tutti venissero a celebrare in Gerusalemme la pasqua per il Signore Dio di Israele, perché molti non avevano osservato le norme prescritte.
6 Accordingly the couriers, with the letters written by the king and his princes, traversed all Israel and Judah, and at the king's command they said: "Israelites, return to the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, that he may return to you, the remnant left from the hands of the Assyrian kings.	6 Partirono i corrieri con lettere da parte del re e dei suoi ufficiali per recarsi in tutto Israele e Giuda. Secondo l'ordine del re dicevano: "Israeliti, fate ritorno al Signore Dio di Abramo, di Isacco e di Israele, ed egli ritornerà a quanti fra voi sono scampati dal pugno dei re d'Assiria.
7 Be not like your fathers and your brethren who proved faithless to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that he delivered them over to desolation, as you yourselves now see.	7 Non siate come i vostri padri e i vostri fratelli, infedeli al Signore Dio dei loro padri, che perciò li ha abbandonati alla desolazione, come potete constatare.
8 Be not obstinate, as your fathers were; extend your hands to the LORD and come to his sanctuary that he has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD, your God, that he may turn away his burning anger from you.	8 Ora non siate di dura cervice come i vostri padri, date la mano al Signore, venite nel santuario che egli ha santificato per sempre. Servite il Signore vostro Dio e si allontanerà da voi la sua ira ardente.
9 For when you return to the LORD, your brethren and your children will find mercy with their captors and return to this land; for merciful and compassionate is the LORD, your God, and he will not turn away his face from you if you return to him."	9 Difatti, se fate ritorno al Signore, i vostri fratelli e i vostri figli troveranno compassione presso coloro che li hanno deportati; ritorneranno in questo paese, poiché il Signore vostro Dio è clemente e misericordioso e non distoglierà lo sguardo da voi, se voi farete ritorno a lui".
10 So the couriers passed from city to city in the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and as far as Zebulun, but they were derided and scoffed at.	10 I corrieri passarono di città in città nel paese di Èfraim e di Manàsse fino a Zàbulon, ma la gente li derideva e si faceva beffe di loro.
11 Nevertheless, some from Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.	11 Solo alcuni di Aser, di Manàsse e di Zàbulon si umiliarono e vennero a Gerusalemme.
12 In Judah, however, the power of God brought it about that the people were of one mind to carry out the command of the king and the princes in accordance with the word of the LORD.	12 In Giuda invece si manifestò la mano di Dio e generò negli uomini un pentimento concorde per eseguire il comando del re e degli ufficiali secondo la parola del Signore.
13 Thus many people gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month; it was a very great assembly.	13 Si riunì in Gerusalemme una grande folla per celebrare la festa degli azzimi nel secondo mese; fu un'assemblea molto numerosa.
14 They proceeded to take down the altars that were in Jerusalem; also they removed all the altars of incense and cast them into the Kidron Valley.	14 Cominciarono a eliminare gli altari che si trovavano in Gerusalemme; eliminarono anche tutti gli altari dei profumi e li gettarono nel torrente Cedron.
15 They slaughtered the Passover on the fourteenth day of the second month. The priests and Levites, touched with shame, sanctified themselves and brought holocausts into the house of the LORD.	15 Essi immolarono la pasqua il quattordici del secondo mese; i sacerdoti e i leviti, pieni di confusione, si purificarono e quindi presentarono gli olocausti nel tempio.
16 They stood in the places prescribed for them according to the law of Moses, the man of God. The priests sprinkled the blood given them by the Levites;	16 Occuparono il proprio posto, secondo le regole fissate per loro nella legge di Mosè, uomo di Dio. I sacerdoti facevano aspersioni con il sangue che ricevevano dai leviti
17 for many in the assembly had not sanctified themselves, and the Levites were in charge of slaughtering the Passover victims for all who were unclean and therefore could not consecrate them to the LORD.	17 perché molti dell'assemblea non si erano purificati. I leviti si occupavano dell'uccisione degli agnelli pasquali per quanti non avevano la purità richiesta per consacrarli al Signore.
18 The greater part of the people, in fact, chiefly from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves. Nevertheless they ate the Passover, contrary to the prescription; for Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "May the LORD, who is good, grant pardon to	18 In realtà la maggioranza della gente, fra cui molti provenienti da Èfraim, da Manàsse, da Ìssacar e da Zàbulon, non si era purificata; mangiarono la pasqua senza fare quanto è prescritto. Ezechia pregò per loro: "Il Signore che è buono perdoni
19 everyone who has resolved to seek God, the LORD, the God of his fathers, though he be not clean as holiness requires."	19 chiunque abbia il cuore disposto a ricercare Dio, ossia il Signore Dio dei suoi padri, anche senza la purificazione necessaria per il santuario".
20 The LORD heard Hezekiah and spared the people.	20 Il Signore esaudì Ezechia e risparmiò il popolo.
21 Thus the Israelites who were in Jerusalem celebrated the feast of Unleavened Bread with great rejoicing for seven days, and the Levites and the priests sang the praises of the LORD day after day with all their strength.	21 Così gli Israeliti che si trovavano in Gerusalemme celebrarono la festa degli azzimi per sette giorni con grande gioia, mentre i sacerdoti e i leviti lodavano ogni giorno il Signore con gli strumenti che risuonavano in suo onore.
22 Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had shown themselves well skilled in the service of the LORD. And when they had completed the seven days of festival, slaying peace offerings and singing praises to the LORD, the God of their fathers,	22 Ezechia parlò al cuore di tutti i leviti, che avevano dimostrato un profondo senso del Signore; per sette giorni parteciparono al banchetto solenne, offrirono sacrifici di comunione e lodarono il Signore, Dio dei loro padri.
23 the whole assembly agreed to celebrate another seven days. With joy, therefore, they continued the festivity seven days longer.	23 Tutta l'assemblea decise di festeggiare altri sette giorni; così passarono ancora sette giorni di gioia.
24 King Hezekiah of Judah had contributed a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep to the assembly, and the princes had contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep. The priests sanctified themselves in great numbers,	24 Difatti il re Ezechia aveva donato alla moltitudine mille giovenchi e settemila pecore; anche i capi avevano donato alla moltitudine mille giovenchi e diecimila pecore. I sacerdoti si purificarono in gran numero.
25 and the whole assembly of Judah rejoiced, together with the priests and Levites and the rest of the assembly that had come from Israel, as well as the sojourners from the land of Israel and those that lived in Judah.	25 Tutta l'assemblea di Giuda, i sacerdoti e i leviti, tutto il gruppo venuto da Israele, gli stranieri venuti dal paese di Israele e gli abitanti di Giuda furono in festa.
26 There was great rejoicing in Jerusalem, for since the days of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel, there had not been the like in the city.	26 Ci fu una gioia straordinaria in Gerusalemme, perché dal tempo di Salomone figlio di Davide, re di Israele, non c'era mai stata una cosa simile in Gerusalemme.
27 Then the levitical priests rose and blessed the people; their voice was heard and their prayer reached heaven, God's holy dwelling.	27 I sacerdoti e i leviti si levarono a benedire il popolo; la loro voce fu ascoltata e la loro preghiera raggiunse la santa dimora di Dio nel cielo.
