1 In the seventh year, Jehoiada took courage and entered a conspiracy with certain captains: Azariah, son of Jehoram; Ishmael, son of Jehohanan; Azariah, son of Obed; Masseiah, son of Adaiah; and Elishaphat, son of Zichri.	1 Il settimo anno, Ioiadà, fattosi coraggio, prese i capi di centinaia, cioè Azaria, figlio di Ierocam, Ismaele, figlio di Giovanni, Azaria, figlio di Obed, Maaseia, figlio di Adaia, ed Elisafàt, figlio di Zicrì, e strinse con essi un patto.
2 They journeyed about Judah, gathering the Levites from all the cities of Judah and also the heads of the Israelite families. When they had come to Jerusalem,	2 Essi percorsero Giuda radunando i leviti da tutte le città di Giuda e i capi dei casati d'Israele; costoro vennero a Gerusalemme.
3 the whole assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. Jehoiada said to them: "Here is the king's son who must reign, as the LORD promised concerning the sons of David.	3 Tutta l'assemblea concluse un patto con il re nel tempio di Dio e Ioiadà disse loro: "Ecco il figlio del re; egli regnerà come il Signore ha promesso ai figli di Davide.
4 This is what you must do: a third of your number, both priests and Levites, who come in on the sabbath must guard the thresholds,	4 Questo è ciò che dovete fare: la terza parte di voi, che prestano servizio il sabato come sacerdoti e leviti, farà la guardia alle soglie;
5 another third must be at the king's palace, and the final third at the Foundation Gate, when all the people will be in the courts of the LORD'S temple.	5 un'altra terza parte starà nel palazzo del re, e un terzo alla porta della Fondazione, mentre tutto il popolo starà nei cortili del tempio del Signore.
6 Let no one enter the LORD'S house except the priests and those Levites who are ministering. They may enter because they are holy; but all the other people must observe the prescriptions of the LORD.	6 Nessuno entri nel tempio del Signore ad eccezione dei sacerdoti e dei leviti che sono di servizio. Questi entreranno, perché sono consacrati; tutto il popolo osserverà la prescrizione del Signore.
7 The Levites shall surround the king on all sides, each with his weapon drawn. Whoever tries to enter the house must be slain. Stay with the king wherever he goes."	7 I leviti faranno il cerchio intorno al re, ognuno con le sue armi in mano. Chi entra nel tempio sarà messo a morte; essi saranno vicini al re dovunque egli vada".
8 The Levites and all Judah did just as Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each brought his men, those who were to come in on the sabbath as well as those who were to depart on the sabbath, since Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed any of the divisions.	8 I leviti e tutto Giuda eseguirono tutto ciò che aveva ordinato il sacerdote Ioiadà. Ognuno prese i suoi uomini, quelli che entravano in servizio il sabato e quelli che ne uscivano, perché il sacerdote Ioiadà non aveva licenziato nessuna classe.
9 Jehoiada the priest gave the captains the spears, shields and bucklers of King David which were in the house of God.	9 Il sacerdote Ioiadà diede ai capicenturia le lance, le corazze e gli scudi già appartenenti al re Davide e che si trovavano nel tempio del Signore.
10 He stationed all the people, each with his spear in hand, from the southern to the northern extremity of the enclosure, around the altar and the temple on the king's behalf.	10 Poi dispose tutto il popolo, ognuno con la sua asta in pugno, dal lato destro fino al lato sinistro del tempio, lungo l'altare e l'edificio, intorno al re.
11 Then they brought out the king's son, set the crown and the insignia upon him, and made him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and they cried, "Long live the king!"	11 Allora fece uscire il figlio del re e, imponendogli il diadema e le insegne, lo proclamò re. Ioiadà e i suoi figli lo unsero e quindi gridarono: "Viva il re!".
12 When Athaliah heard the din of the people running and acclaiming the king, she went to the people in the temple of the LORD.	12 Al sentire le grida del popolo che accorreva acclamando il re, Atalia si presentò al popolo nel tempio del Signore.
13 She looked, and there was the king standing beside his pillar at the entrance, the officers and the trumpeters around him, and all the people of the land rejoicing and blowing trumpets, while the singers with their musical instruments were leading the acclaim. Athaliah tore her garments and cried out, "Treason! treason!"	13 Guardò: ecco il re stava sul seggio all'ingresso, i capi e i trombettieri si trovavano attorno al re e tutto il popolo del paese esultava dando fiato alle trombe; i cantori con i loro strumenti musicali davano le indicazioni per le acclamazioni. Atalia si strappò le vesti e gridò: "Tradimento, tradimento!".
14 Then Jehoiada the priest sent out the captains who were in command of the army; he said to them: "Take her outside through the ranks, and if anyone tries to follow her, let him die by the sword. For," the priest continued, "you must not put her to death in the LORD'S temple."	14 Il sacerdote Ioiadà ordinò ai capicenturia che comandavano la truppa: "Conducetela fuori in mezzo alle file! Chi la segue, sia ucciso di spada". Infatti il sacerdote aveva detto: "Non uccidetela nel tempio del Signore".
15 So they seized her, and when she arrived at the entrance to the Horse Gate of the palace, they put her to death there.	15 Le misero sopra le mani e quando arrivò al palazzo reale, la uccisero all'entrata della porta dei Cavalli.
16 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.	16 Ioiadà concluse un patto tra sé, tutto il popolo e il re, affinché il popolo diventasse un popolo del Signore.
17 And all the people went to the temple of Baal and tore it down. They smashed its altars and images, and they slew Mattan, the priest of Baal, before the altars.	17 Tutto il popolo si recò nel tempio di Baal e lo demolirono. Fecero a pezzi i suoi altari e le sue statue, uccisero davanti agli altari il sacerdote di Baal, Mattan.
18 Then Jehoiada gave the charge of the LORD'S temple into the hands of the levitical priests, to whom David had assigned turns in the temple for offering the holocausts of the LORD, as is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and song, as David had provided.	18 Ioiadà affidò la sorveglianza del tempio del Signore ai sacerdoti e ai leviti che Davide aveva ripartito in classi per il tempio del Signore, onde offrissero olocausti al Signore, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, tra gioia e canti, secondo gli ordini di Davide.
19 Moreover, he stationed guards at the gates of the LORD'S temple so that no one unclean in any respect might enter.	19 Stabilì inoltre i portieri alle porte del tempio, perché per nessun motivo potesse entrarvi un impuro.
20 Then he took the captains, the nobles, the rulers among the people, and all the people of the land, and led the king out of the LORD'S house. When they had come within the upper gate of the king's house, they seated the king upon the royal throne.	20 Prese i capicenturia, i notabili e quanti avevano autorità fra il popolo, come anche tutto il popolo del paese, e fece scendere il re dal tempio del Signore. Attraverso la porta superiore giunsero nella reggia e fecero sedere il re sul trono regale.
21 All the people of the land rejoiced and the city was quiet, now that Athaliah had been put to death by the sword.	21 Tutto il popolo del paese fu in festa; la città rimase tranquilla; benché Atalia fosse stata uccisa di spada.
