NEW AMERICAN BIBLEEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
After this, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them; and he took Gath and its towns away from the control of the Philistines.1 Después de esto, David derrotó a los filisteos y los sometió, despojándolos de Gat y sus poblados.
He also defeated Moab, and the Moabites became his subjects, paying tribute.2 También derrotó a los moabitas, y estos pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo.
David then defeated Hadadezer, king of Zobah toward Hamath, when the latter was on his way to set up his victory stele at the river Euphrates.3 David derrotó a Hadadézer, rey de Sobá, cuando este iba establecer su dominio sobre el río Eufrates.
David took from him twenty thousand foot soldiers, one thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen. Of the chariot horses, David hamstrung all but one hundred.4 Capturó mil carros, siete mil soldados de caballería y veinte mil hombres de a pie, y mutiló todos los caballos de los carros de guerra, reservándose sólo cien.
The Arameans of Damascus came to the aid of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, but David also slew twenty-two thousand of their men.5 Los arameos de Damasco acudieron en auxilio de Hadadézer, pero David derrotó a veintidós mil de esos arameos.
Then David set up garrisons in the Damascus region of Aram, and the Arameans became his subjects, paying tribute. Thus the LORD made David victorious in all his campaigns.6 Luego puso gobernadores en Aram de Damasco, y los arameos pasaron a ser vasallos de David, sometidos a tributo.
He likewise took away from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, large quantities of bronze, which Solomon later used to make the bronze sea and the pillars and the vessels of bronze.8 De Tibjat y de Cun, ciudades de Hadadézer, David trajo una enorme cantidad de bronce, con el que Salomón hizo el Mar de bronce, las columnas y los utensilios de bronce.
When Tou, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah,9 Cuando Tou, rey de Jamat, oyó que David había derrotado a todo el ejército de Hadadézer, rey de Sobá,
he sent his son Hadoram to wish King David well and to congratulate him on having waged a victorious war against Hadadezer; for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou.
These also King David consecrated to the LORD along with all the silver and gold that he had taken from the nations: from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.11 y David consagró también esos objetos, como lo había hecho con la plata y el oro que había traído de todas las naciones: de Edom, de Moab, de los amonitas, de los filisteos y de Amalec.
Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, also slew eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.12 Abisai, hijo de Seruiá, derrotó a dieciocho mil edomitas en el valle de la Sal.
He set up garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's subjects. Thus the LORD made David victorious in all his campaigns.13 Luego puso gobernadores en Edom y todos los edomitas pasaron a ser vasallos de David. El Señor daba la victoria a David en todas sus campañas.
David reigned over all Israel and dispensed justice and right to all his people.14 David reinó sobre todo Israel, y administraba el derecho y la justicia a todo su pueblo.
Joab, son of Zeruiah, was in command of the army; Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, was herald;15 Joab, hijo de Seruiá, era el comandante del ejército; Josafat, hijo de Ajilud, el heraldo;
Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests; Shavsha was scribe;16 Sadoc, hijo de Ajitub, y Ajimélec, hijo de Abiatar, eran sacerdotes; Sausá, el secretario;
Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, was in command of the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were the chief assistants to the king.17 Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, comandaba a los queretos y peleteos; y los hijos de David eran los principales al lado del rey.
