1 ויקרא משה אל כל ישראל ויאמר אלהם שמע ישראל את החקים ואת המשפטים אשר אנכי דבר באזניכם היום ולמדתם אתם ושמרתם לעשתם	1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and decrees which I proclaim in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take care to observe them.
2 יהוה אלהינו כרת עמנו ברית בחרב	2 The LORD, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb;
3 לא את אבתינו כרת יהוה את הברית הזאת כי אתנו אנחנו אלה פה היום כלנו חיים	3 not with our fathers did he make this covenant, but with us, all of us who are alive here this day.
4 פנים בפנים דבר יהוה עמכם בהר מתוך האש	4 The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.
5 אנכי עמד בין יהוה וביניכם בעת ההוא להגיד לכם את דבר יהוה כי יראתם מפני האש ולא עליתם בהר לאמר	5 Since you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain, I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to announce to you these words of the LORD:
6 אנכי יהוה אלהיך אשר הוצאתיך מארץ מצרים מבית עבדים	6 'I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
7 לא יהיה לך אלהים אחרים על פני	7 You shall not have other gods besides me.
8 לא תעשה לך פסל כל תמונה אשר בשמים ממעל ואשר בארץ מתחת ואשר במים מתחת לארץ	8 You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth;
9 לא תשתחוה להם ולא תעבדם כי אנכי יהוה אלהיך אל קנא פקד עון אבות על בנים ועל שלשים ועל רבעים לשנאי	9 you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishments for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation
10 ועשה חסד לאלפים לאהבי ולשמרי מצותו	10 but bestowing mercy, down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.
11 לא תשא את שם יהוה אלהיך לשוא כי לא ינקה יהוה את אשר ישא את שמו לשוא	11 'You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished him who takes his name in vain.
12 שמור את יום השבת לקדשו כאשר צוך יהוה אלהיך	12 'Take care to keep holy the sabbath day as the LORD, your God, commanded you.
13 ששת ימים תעבד ועשית כל מלאכתך	13 Six days you may labor and do all your work;
14 ויום השביעי שבת ליהוה אלהיך לא תעשה כל מלאכה אתה ובנך ובתך ועבדך ואמתך ושורך וחמרך וכל בהמתך וגרך אשר בשעריך למען ינוח עבדך ואמתך כמוך	14 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then, whether by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or ass or any of your beasts, or the alien who lives with you. Your male and female slave should rest as you do.
15 וזכרת כי עבד היית בארץ מצרים ויצאך יהוה אלהיך משם ביד חזקה ובזרע נטויה על כן צוך יהוה אלהיך לעשות את יום השבת	15 For remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, brought you from there with his strong hand and outstretched arm. That is why the LORD, your God, has commanded you to observe the sabbath day.
16 כבד את אביך ואת אמך כאשר צוך יהוה אלהיך למען יאריכן ימיך ולמען ייטב לך על האדמה אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך	16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, that you may have a long life and prosperity in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
17 לא תרצח	17 'You shall not kill.
18 ולא תנאף	18 'You shall not commit adultery.
19 ולא תגנב	19 'You shall not steal.
20 ולא תענה ברעך עד שוא	20 'You shall not bear dishonest witness against your neighbor.
21 ולא תחמד אשת רעך ולא תתאוה בית רעך שדהו ועבדו ואמתו שורו וחמרו וכל אשר לרעך	21 'You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. 'You shall not desire your neighbor's house or field, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything that belongs to him.'
22 את הדברים האלה דבר יהוה אל כל קהלכם בהר מתוך האש הענן והערפל קול גדול ולא יסף ויכתבם על שני לחת אבנים ויתנם אלי	22 "These words, and nothing more, the LORD spoke with a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from the midst of the fire and the dense cloud. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 ויהי כשמעכם את הקול מתוך החשך וההר בער באש ותקרבון אלי כל ראשי שבטיכם וזקניכם	23 But when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, you came to me in the person of all your tribal heads and elders,
24 ותאמרו הן הראנו יהוה אלהינו את כבדו ואת גדלו ואת קלו שמענו מתוך האש היום הזה ראינו כי ידבר אלהים את האדם וחי	24 and said, 'The LORD, our God, has indeed let us see his glory and his majesty! We have heard his voice from the midst of the fire and have found out today that a man can still live after God has spoken with him.
25 ועתה למה נמות כי תאכלנו האש הגדלה הזאת אם יספים אנחנו לשמע את קול יהוה אלהינו עוד ומתנו	25 But why should we die now? Surely this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD, our God, any more, we shall die.
26 כי מי כל בשר אשר שמע קול אלהים חיים מדבר מתוך האש כמנו ויחי	26 For what mortal has heard, as we have, the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of fire, and survived?
27 קרב אתה ושמע את כל אשר יאמר יהוה אלהינו ואת תדבר אלינו את כל אשר ידבר יהוה אלהינו אליך ושמענו ועשינו	27 Go closer, you, and hear all that the LORD, our God, will say, and then tell us what the LORD, our God, tells you; we will listen and obey.'
28 וישמע יהוה את קול דבריכם בדברכם אלי ויאמר יהוה אלי שמעתי את קול דברי העם הזה אשר דברו אליך היטיבו כל אשר דברו	28 "The LORD heard your words as you were speaking to me and said to me, 'I have heard the words these people have spoken to you, which are all well said.
29 מי יתן והיה לבבם זה להם ליראה אתי ולשמר את כל מצותי כל הימים למען ייטב להם ולבניהם לעלם	29 Would that they might always be of such a mind, to fear me and to keep all my commandments! Then they and their descendants would prosper forever.
30 לך אמר להם שובו לכם לאהליכם	30 Go, tell them to return to their tents.
31 ואתה פה עמד עמדי ואדברה אליך את כל המצוה והחקים והמשפטים אשר תלמדם ועשו בארץ אשר אנכי נתן להם לרשתה	31 Then you wait here near me and I will give you all the commandments, the statutes and decrees you must teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I am giving them to possess.'
32 ושמרתם לעשות כאשר צוה יהוה אלהיכם אתכם לא תסרו ימין ושמאל	32 "Be careful, therefore, to do as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, not turning aside to the right or to the left,
33 בכל הדרך אשר צוה יהוה אלהיכם אתכם תלכו למען תחיון וטוב לכם והארכתם ימים בארץ אשר תירשון	33 but following exactly the way prescribed for you by the LORD, your God, that you may live and prosper, and may have long life in the land which you are to occupy.
