LXXDOUAI-RHEIMS
και ωρθρισεν ιεροβααλ αυτος εστιν γεδεων και πας ο λαος ο μετ' αυτου και παρενεβαλεν επι την γην αρωεδ και παρεμβολη μαδιαμ και αμαληκ ην αυτω απο βορρα απο του βουνου του αβωρ εν τη κοιλαδι1 Then Jerobaal, who is the same as Gedeon, rising up early and all the people with him, came to the fountain that is called Harad. Now the camp of Madian was in the valley on the north side of the high hill.
και ειπεν κυριος προς γεδεων πολυς ο λαος ο μετα σου ωστε μη παραδουναι με την μαδιαμ εν χειρι αυτων μηποτε καυχησηται ισραηλ επ' εμε λεγων η χειρ μου εσωσεν με2 And the Lord said to Gedeon: The people that are with thee are many, and Madian shall not be delivered into their hands: lest Israel should glory against me, and say: I was delivered by my own strength.
και ειπεν κυριος προς αυτον λαλησον δη εις τα ωτα του λαου λεγων τις δειλος και φοβουμενος αποστραφητω και εξωρμησαν απο του ορους του γαλααδ και απεστραφησαν απο του λαου εικοσι και δυο χιλιαδες και δεκα χιλιαδες υπελειφθησαν3 Speak to the people, and proclaim in the hearing of all, I Whosoever is fearful and timorous, let him return. So two and twenty thousand men went away from mount Galaad and returned home, and only ten thousand remained.
και ειπεν κυριος προς γεδεων ετι ο λαος πολυς καταγαγε αυτους εις το υδωρ και δοκιμω αυτους σοι εκει και εσται ον εαν ειπω προς σε ουτος πορευσεται μετα σου αυτος πορευσεται μετα σου και ον εαν ειπω σοι οτι ου πορευσεται μετα σου αυτος ου πορευσεται μετα σου4 And the Lord said to Gedeon: The people are still too many, bring them to the waters, and there I will try them: and of whom I shall say to thee, This shall go with thee, let him go: whom I shall forbid to go, let him return.
και κατεβιβασεν τον λαον εις το υδωρ και ειπεν κυριος προς γεδεων πας ος αν λαψη τη γλωσση αυτου εκ του υδατος ως εαν λαψη ο κυων στησεις αυτον κατα μονας και πας ος αν καμψη επι τα γονατα αυτου του πιειν μεταστησεις αυτον καθ' αυτον5 And when the people were come down to the waters, the Lord said to Gedeon: They that shall lap the water with their tongues, as dogs are wont to lap, thou shalt set apart by themselves: but they that shall drink bowing down their knees, shall be on the other side.
και εγενετο πας ο αριθμος των λαψαντων εν τη γλωσση αυτων τριακοσιοι ανδρες και πας ο επιλοιπος του λαου εκαμψαν επι τα γονατα αυτων του πιειν υδωρ6 And the number of them that had lapped water, casting it with the hand to their mouth, was three hundred men: and all the rest of the multitude had drunk kneeling.
και ειπεν κυριος προς γεδεων εν τοις τριακοσιοις ανδρασιν τοις λαψασιν σωσω υμας και παραδωσω την μαδιαμ εν χειρι σου και πας ο λαος αποτρεχετω ανηρ εις τον τοπον αυτου7 And the Lord said to Gedeon: By the three hundred men, that lapped water, I will save you, and deliver Madian into thy hand: but let all the rest of the people return to their place.
και ελαβον τον επισιτισμον του λαου εν τη χειρι αυτων και τας κερατινας αυτων και παντα ανδρα ισραηλ εξαπεστειλεν ανδρα εις το σκηνωμα αυτου των δε τριακοσιων ανδρων εκρατησεν η δε παρεμβολη μαδιαμ ην υποκατωθεν αυτου εν τη κοιλαδι8 So taking victuals and trumpets according to their number, he ordered all the rest of the multitude to depart to their tents: and he with the three hundred gave himself to the battle. Now the camp of Madian was beneath him in the valley.
και εγενηθη εν τη νυκτι εκεινη και ειπεν προς αυτον κυριος αναστα καταβηθι το ταχος εντευθεν εις την παρεμβολην οτι παρεδωκα αυτην εν τη χειρι σου9 The same night the Lord said to him: Arise, and go down into the camp: because I have delivered them into thy hand.
ει δε φοβη συ καταβηναι καταβηθι συ και φαρα το παιδαριον σου εις την παρεμβολην10 But if thou be afraid to go alone, let Phara thy servant go down with thee.
και ακουση τι λαλουσιν και μετα ταυτα ισχυσουσιν αι χειρες σου και καταβηση εν τη παρεμβολη και κατεβη αυτος και φαρα το παιδαριον αυτου εις μερος των πεντηκοντα των εν τη παρεμβολη11 And when thou shalt hear what they are saying, then shall thy hands be strengthened, and thou shalt go down more secure to the enemies' camp. And he went down with Phara his servant into part of the camp, where was the watch of men in arms.
και μαδιαμ και αμαληκ και παντες οι υιοι ανατολων παρεμβεβληκεισαν εν τη κοιλαδι ως ακρις εις πληθος και ταις καμηλοις αυτων ουκ ην αριθμος αλλ' ησαν ωσπερ η αμμος η επι το χειλος της θαλασσης εις πληθος12 But Madian and Amalec, and all the eastern people lay scattered in the valley, as a multitude of locusts: their camels also were innumerable as the sand that lieth on the sea shore.
και εισηλθεν γεδεων και ιδου ανηρ εξηγειτο τω πλησιον αυτου το ενυπνιον και ειπεν ιδου το ενυπνιον ο ηνυπνιασθην και ιδου μαγις αρτου κριθινου κυλιομενη εν τη παρεμβολη μαδιαμ και ηλθεν εως της σκηνης μαδιαμ και επαταξεν αυτην και κατεστρεψεν αυτην και επεσεν η σκηνη13 And when Gedeon was come, one told his neighbour a dream: and in this manner related what he had seen: I dreamt a dream, and it seemed to me as if a hearth cake of barley bread rolled and came down into the camp of Madian: and when it was come to a tent it struck it, and beat it down flat to the ground.
και απεκριθη ο πλησιον αυτου και ειπεν ουκ εστιν αυτη αλλ' η ρομφαια γεδεων υιου ιωας ανδρος ισραηλ παρεδωκεν κυριος εν χειρι αυτου την μαδιαμ και πασαν την παρεμβολην14 He to whom he spoke, answered: This is nothing else but the sword of Gedeon the son of Joas a man of Israel. For the Lord hath delivered Madian, and all their camp into his hand.
και εγενετο ως ηκουσεν γεδεων την διηγησιν του ενυπνιου και την συγκρισιν αυτου και προσεκυνησεν κυριον και επεστρεψεν εις την παρεμβολην ισραηλ και ειπεν αναστητε οτι παρεδωκεν κυριος εν χερσιν υμων την παρεμβολην μαδιαμ15 And when Gedeon had heard the dream, and the interpretation thereof, he adored: and returned to the camp of Israel, and said: Arise, for the Lord hath delivered the camp of Madian into our hands.
και διειλεν τους τριακοσιους ανδρας τρεις αρχας και εδωκεν κερατινας εν χειρι παντων και υδριας κενας και λαμπαδας εν μεσω των υδριων16 And he divided the three hundred men into three parts, and gave them trumpets in their hands, and empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.
και ειπεν προς αυτους απ' εμου οψεσθε και ουτως ποιησετε και ιδου εγω εισπορευομαι εν μεσω της παρεμβολης και εσται ως εαν ποιησω ουτως ποιησετε17 And he said to them: What you shall see me do, do you the same: I will go into one part of the camp, and do you as I shall do.
και σαλπιω τη κερατινη εγω και παντες οι μετ' εμου και σαλπιειτε ταις κερατιναις και υμεις κυκλω της παρεμβολης και ερειτε τω κυριω και τω γεδεων18 When the trumpet shall sound in my hand, do you also blow the trumpets on every side of the camp.
και εισηλθεν γεδεων και εκατον ανδρες μετ' αυτου εν μερει της παρεμβολης αρχομενης της φυλακης της μεσουσης πλην εγερσει ηγειρεν τους φυλασσοντας και εσαλπισαν ταις κερατιναις και εξετιναξαν τας υδριας τας εν ταις χερσιν αυτων19 And Gedeon, and the three hundred men that were with him, went into part of the camp, at the beginning of the midnight watch, and the watchmen being alarmed, they began to sound their trumpets, and to clap the pitchers one against another.
και εσαλπισαν αι τρεις αρχαι εν ταις κερατιναις και συνετριψαν τας υδριας και ελαβοντο εν τη χειρι τη αριστερα αυτων των λαμπαδων και εν τη χειρι τη δεξια αυτων αι κερατιναι του σαλπιζειν και ανεκραξαν ρομφαια τω κυριω και τω γεδεων20 And when they sounded their trumpets in three places round about the camp, and had broken their pitchers, they held their lamps in their left hands, and with their right hands the trumpets which they blew, and they cried out: The sword of the Lord and of Gedeon;
και εστησαν εκαστος καθ' εαυτον κυκλω της παρεμβολης και εδραμον πασα η παρεμβολη και εσημαναν και εφυγον21 Standing every man in his place round about the enemies' camp. So all the camp was troubled, and crying out and howling they fled away.
και εσαλπισαν αι τριακοσιαι κερατιναι και εθετο κυριος μαχαιραν ανδρος εν τω πλησιον αυτου και εν ολη τη παρεμβολη και εφυγεν η παρεμβολη εως της βαιθασεττα και συνηγμενη εως χειλους αβελμεουλα και επι ταβαθ22 And the three hundred men nevertheless persisted sounding the trumpets. And the Lord sent the sword into all the camp, and they killed one another,
και εβοησεν ανηρ ισραηλ εκ νεφθαλιμ και εξ ασηρ και εκ παντος μανασση και κατεδιωξαν οπισω μαδιαμ23 Fleeing as far as Bethsetta, and the border of Abelmahula in Tebbath. But the men of Israel shouting from Nephtali and Aser, and from all Manasses pursued after Madian.
και αγγελους εξαπεστειλεν γεδεων εν παντι οριω εφραιμ λεγων καταβητε εις συναντησιν μαδιαμ και καταλαβετε εαυτοις το υδωρ εως βαιθβηρα και τον ιορδανην και εβοησεν πας ανηρ εφραιμ και προκατελαβοντο το υδωρ εως βαιθβηρα και τον ιορδανην24 And Gedeon sent messengers into all mount Ephraim, saying: Come down to meet Madian, and take the waters before them to Bethbera and the Jordan. And all Ephraim shouted, and took the waters before them and the Jordan as far as Bethbera.
και συνελαβον τους δυο αρχοντας μαδιαμ τον ωρηβ και τον ζηβ και απεκτειναν τον ωρηβ εν σουριν και τον ζηβ απεκτειναν εν ιακεφζηβ και κατεδιωξαν μαδιαμ και την κεφαλην ωρηβ και ζηβ ηνεγκαν προς γεδεων εκ του περαν του ιορδανου25 And having taken two men of Madian, Oreb and Zeb: Oreb they slew in the rock of Oreb, and Zeb in the winepress of Zeb. And they pursued Madian, carrying the heads of Oreb and Zeb to Gedeon beyond the waters of the Jordan.
