1 και εξηλθον παντες οι υιοι ισραηλ και εξεκκλησιασθη πασα η συναγωγη ως ανηρ εις απο δαν και εως βηρσαβεε και γη γαλααδ προς κυριον εις μασσηφα	1 So all the Israelites came out as one man: from Dan to Beer-sheba, and from the land of Gilead, the community was gathered to the LORD at Mizpah.
2 και εστη το κλιμα παντος του λαου πασαι αι φυλαι ισραηλ εν τη εκκλησια του λαου του θεου τετρακοσιαι χιλιαδες ανδρων πεζων σπωμενων ρομφαιαν	2 The leaders of all the people and all the tribesmen of Israel, four hundred thousand foot soldiers who were swordsmen, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God.
3 και ηκουσαν οι υιοι βενιαμιν οτι ανεβησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ προς κυριον εις μασσηφα και ειπαν οι υιοι ισραηλ λαλησατε που εγενετο η κακια αυτη	3 Meanwhile, the Benjaminites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah. The Israelites asked to be told how the crime had taken place,
4 και απεκριθη ο ανηρ ο λευιτης ο ανηρ της γυναικος της πεφονευμενης και ειπεν εις γαβαα της βενιαμιν ηλθον εγω και η παλλακη μου καταλυσαι	4 and the Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, testified: "My concubine and I went into Gibeah of Benjamin for the night.
5 και ανεστησαν επ' εμε οι ανδρες οι παρα της γαβαα και περιεκυκλωσαν επ' εμε την οικιαν νυκτος και εμε ηθελησαν αποκτειναι και την παλλακην μου εταπεινωσαν και ενεπαιξαν αυτη και απεθανεν	5 But the citizens of Gibeah rose up against me by night and surrounded the house in which I was. Me they attempted to kill, and my concubine they abused so that she died.
6 και επελαβομην της παλλακης μου και εμελισα αυτην και εξαπεστειλα εν παντι οριω κληρονομιας ισραηλ οτι εποιησαν αφροσυνην εν τω ισραηλ	6 So I took my concubine and cut her up and sent her through every part of the territory of Israel, because of the monstrous crime they had committed in Israel.
7 ιδου παντες υμεις οι υιοι ισραηλ δοτε εαυτοις λογον και βουλην	7 Now that you are all here, O Israelites, state what you propose to do."
8 και ανεστη πας ο λαος ως ανηρ εις λεγων ουκ εισελευσομεθα ανηρ εις το σκηνωμα αυτου και ουκ εκκλινουμεν ανηρ εις τον οικον αυτου	8 All the people rose as one man to say, "None of us is to leave for his tent or return to his home.
9 και νυν τουτο το ρημα ο ποιησομεν τη γαβαα αναβησομεθα επ' αυτην εν κληρω	9 Now as for Gibeah, this is what we will do: We will proceed against it by lot,
10 και λημψομεθα δεκα ανδρας τοις εκατον και εκατον τοις χιλιοις και χιλιους τοις μυριοις λαβειν επισιτισμον τω λαω τοις εισπορευομενοις επιτελεσαι τη γαβαα του βενιαμιν κατα πασαν την αφροσυνην ην εποιησαν εν ισραηλ	10 taking from all the tribes of Israel ten men for every hundred, a hundred for every thousand, a thousand for every ten thousand, and procuring supplies for the soldiers who will go to deal fully and suitably with Gibeah of Benjamin for the crime it committed in Israel."
11 και συνηχθη πας ανηρ ισραηλ εκ των πολεων ως ανηρ εις ερχομενοι	11 When, therefore, all the men of Israel without exception were leagued together against the city,
12 και εξαπεστειλαν αι φυλαι ισραηλ ανδρας εν παση φυλη βενιαμιν λεγοντες τις η κακια αυτη η γενομενη εν υμιν	12 the tribes of Israel sent men throughout the tribe of Benjamin to say, "What is this evil which has occurred among you?
13 και νυν δοτε τους ανδρας τους ασεβεις τους εν γαβαα τους υιους βελιαλ και θανατωσομεν αυτους και εξαρουμεν κακιαν εξ ισραηλ και ουκ ηθελησαν οι υιοι βενιαμιν εισακουσαι της φωνης των αδελφων αυτων των υιων ισραηλ	13 Now give up these corrupt men of Gibeah, that we may put them to death and thus purge the evil from Israel." But the Benjaminites refused to accede to the demand of their brothers, the Israelites.
14 και συνηχθησαν οι υιοι βενιαμιν εκ των πολεων αυτων εις γαβαα εξελθειν του πολεμησαι μετα υιων ισραηλ	14 Instead, the Benjaminites assembled from their other cities to Gibeah, to do battle with the Israelites.
15 και επεσκεπησαν οι υιοι βενιαμιν εν τη ημερα εκεινη εκ των πολεων εικοσι και πεντε χιλιαδες ανδρων σπωμενων ρομφαιαν χωρις των κατοικουντων την γαβαα ουτοι επεσκεπησαν επτακοσιοι ανδρες νεανισκοι εκλεκτοι	15 The number of the Benjaminite swordsmen from the other cities on that occasion was twenty-six thousand, in addition to the inhabitants of Gibeah.
16 αμφοτεροδεξιοι παντες ουτοι σφενδονηται βαλλοντες λιθους προς την τριχα και ου διαμαρτανοντες	16 Included in this total were seven hundred picked men who were left-handed, every one of them able to sling a stone at a hair without missing.
17 και πας ανηρ ισραηλ επεσκεπησαν χωρις των υιων βενιαμιν τετρακοσιαι χιλιαδες ανδρων σπωμενων ρομφαιαν παντες ουτοι ανδρες πολεμισται	17 Meanwhile the other Israelites who, without Benjamin, mustered four hundred thousand swordsmen ready for battle,
18 και ανεστησαν και ανεβησαν εις βαιθηλ και επηρωτησαν εν τω θεω και ειπαν οι υιοι ισραηλ τις αναβησεται ημιν αφηγουμενος πολεμησαι μετα βενιαμιν και ειπεν κυριος ιουδας αναβησεται αφηγουμενος	18 moved on to Bethel and consulted God. When the Israelites asked who should go first in the attack on the Benjaminites, the LORD said, "Judah shall go first."
19 και ανεστησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ και παρενεβαλον επι την γαβαα	19 The next day the Israelites advanced on Gibeah with their forces.
20 και εξηλθεν πας ανηρ ισραηλ εις πολεμον μετα βενιαμιν και παρεταξαντο μετ' αυτων εις πολεμον ανηρ ισραηλ προς την γαβαα	20 On the day the Israelites drew up in battle array at Gibeah for the combat with Benjamin,
21 και εξηλθον οι υιοι βενιαμιν εκ της πολεως και διεφθειραν εν ισραηλ εν τη ημερα εκεινη δυο και εικοσι χιλιαδας ανδρων επι την γην	21 the Benjaminites came out of the city and felled twenty-two thousand men of Israel.
22 και ενισχυσεν ανηρ ισραηλ και προσεθεντο παραταξασθαι πολεμον εν τω τοπω ω παρεταξαντο εκει εν τη ημερα τη πρωτη	22 But though the Israelite soldiers took courage and again drew up for combat in the same place as on the previous day,
23 και ανεβησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ και εκλαυσαν ενωπιον κυριου εως εσπερας και επηρωτησαν εν κυριω λεγοντες ει προσθω προσεγγισαι εις πολεμον μετα βενιαμιν του αδελφου μου και ειπεν κυριος αναβητε προς αυτον	23 Then the Israelites went up and wept before the LORD until evening. "Shall I again engage my brother Benjamin in battle?" they asked the LORD; and the LORD answered that they should.
24 και προσηλθοσαν οι υιοι ισραηλ προς βενιαμιν εν τη ημερα τη δευτερα	24 when they met the Benjaminites for the second time,
25 και εξηλθεν βενιαμιν εις απαντησιν αυτων εκ της γαβαα εν τη ημερα τη δευτερα και διεφθειρεν εκ του λαου οκτωκαιδεκα χιλιαδας ανδρων επι την γην παντες ουτοι εσπασμενοι ρομφαιαν	25 once again the Benjaminites who came out of Gibeah against them felled eighteen thousand Israelites, all of them swordsmen.
26 και ανεβησαν παντες οι υιοι ισραηλ και πας ο λαος και ηλθοσαν εις βαιθηλ και εκλαυσαν εναντι κυριου και ενηστευσαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη και ανηνεγκαν ολοκαυτωματα σωτηριου εναντι κυριου	26 So the entire Israelite army went up to Bethel, where they wept and remained fasting before the LORD until evening of that day, besides offering holocausts and peace offerings before the LORD.
27 και επηρωτησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ εν κυριω και εκει η κιβωτος διαθηκης κυριου εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις	27 When the Israelites consulted the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
28 και φινεες υιος ελεαζαρ υιου ααρων παρεστηκως ενωπιον αυτης εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις λεγων ει προσθω ετι εξελθειν εις πολεμον μετα υιων βενιαμιν του αδελφου μου η κοπασω και ειπεν κυριος αναβητε οτι αυριον παραδωσω αυτον εν χειρι σου	28 and Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, was ministering to him in those days), and asked, "Shall I go out again to battle with Benjamin, my brother, or shall I desist?" the LORD said, "Attack! for tomorrow I will deliver him into your power."
29 και εθηκαν οι υιοι ισραηλ ενεδρα εν τη γαβαα κυκλω	29 So Israel set men in ambush around Gibeah.
30 και εταξεν ισραηλ προς τον βενιαμιν εν τη ημερα τη τριτη και παρεταξαντο προς γαβαα καθως απαξ και απαξ	30 The Israelites went up against the Benjaminites for the third time and formed their line of battle at Gibeah as on other occasions.
31 και εξηλθον οι υιοι βενιαμιν εις απαντησιν του λαου και εξειλκυσθησαν εκ της πολεως και ηρξαντο τυπτειν εκ του λαου καθως απαξ και απαξ εν ταις οδοις η εστιν μια αναβαινουσα εις βαιθηλ και μια αναβαινουσα εις γαβαα εν τω αγρω ωσει τριακοντα ανδρας εν τω ισραηλ	31 The Benjaminites went out to meet them, and in the beginning they killed off about thirty of the Israelite soldiers in the open field, just as on the other occasions.
32 και ειπαν οι υιοι βενιαμιν προσκοπτουσιν ενωπιον ημων καθως εμπροσθεν και οι υιοι ισραηλ ειπαν φυγωμεν και εκσπασωμεν αυτους εκ της πολεως εις τας οδους	32 Therefore the Benjaminites thought, "We are defeating them as before"; not realizing that disaster was about to overtake them. The Israelites, however, had planned the flight so as to draw them away from the city onto the highways. They were drawn away from the city onto the highways, of which the one led to Bethel, the other to Gibeon.
33 και πας ανηρ ισραηλ ανεστη εκ του τοπου αυτου και παρεταξαντο εν βααλθαμαρ και το ενεδρον ισραηλ επαλαιεν εκ του τοπου αυτου απο δυσμων της γαβαα	33 And then all the men of Israel rose from their places. They re-formed their ranks at Baal-tamar, and the Israelites in ambush rushed from their place west of Gibeah,
34 και παρεγενοντο εξ εναντιας της γαβαα δεκα χιλιαδες ανδρων εκλεκτων εκ παντος ισραηλ και ο πολεμος εβαρυνθη και αυτοι ουκ εγνωσαν οτι αφηπται αυτων η κακια	34 ten thousand picked men from all Israel, and advanced against the city itself. In a fierce battle,
35 και ετροπωσεν κυριος τον βενιαμιν κατα προσωπον ισραηλ και διεφθειραν οι υιοι ισραηλ εν τω βενιαμιν εν τη ημερα εκεινη εικοσι και πεντε χιλιαδας και εκατον ανδρας παντες ουτοι σπωμενοι ρομφαιαν	35 the LORD defeated Benjamin before Israel; and on that day the Israelites killed twenty-five thousand one hundred men of Benjamin, all of them swordsmen.
36 και ειδεν βενιαμιν οτι τετροπωται και εδωκεν ανηρ ισραηλ τω βενιαμιν τοπον οτι ηλπισαν επι το ενεδρον ο εταξαν προς την γαβαα	36 To the Benjaminites it had looked as though the enemy were defeated, for the men of Israel gave ground to Benjamin, trusting in the ambush they had set at Gibeah.
37 και το ενεδρον ωρμησεν και εξεχυθησαν προς την γαβαα και επορευθη το ενεδρον και επαταξαν ολην την πολιν εν στοματι ρομφαιας	37 But then the men in ambush made a sudden dash into Gibeah, overran it, and put the whole city to the sword.
38 και η συνταγη ην ανδρι ισραηλ προς το ενεδρον του ανενεγκαι αυτους πυρσον του καπνου της πολεως	38 Now, the other Israelites had agreed with the men in ambush on a smoke signal they were to send up from the city.
39 και ανεστρεψαν ανηρ ισραηλ εν τω πολεμω και βενιαμιν ηρκται του τυπτειν τραυματιας εν τω ανδρι ισραηλ ωσει τριακοντα ανδρας οτι ειπαν πλην τροπουμενος τροπουται εναντιον ημων καθως ο πολεμος ο εμπροσθεν	39 And though the men of Benjamin had begun by killing off some thirty of the men of Israel, under the impression that they were defeating them as surely as in the earlier fighting, the Israelites wheeled about to resist
40 και ο πυρσος ηρξατο αναβαινειν εκ της πολεως στυλος καπνου και επεβλεψεν βενιαμιν οπισω αυτου και ιδου ανεβη συντελεια της πολεως εις τον ουρανον	40 as the smoke of the signal column began to rise up from the city. It was when Benjamin looked back and saw the whole city in flames against the sky
41 και ανηρ ισραηλ απεστρεψεν και εσπευσεν ανηρ βενιαμιν και ειδεν οτι ηπται αυτου η κακια	41 that the men of Israel wheeled about. Therefore the men of Benjamin were thrown into confusion, for they realized the disaster that had overtaken them.
42 και εκλιναν ενωπιον ανδρος ισραηλ εις την οδον της ερημου και ο πολεμος κατεφθασεν αυτον και οι απο των πολεων διεφθειραν αυτον εν μεσω αυτων	42 They retreated before the men of Israel in the direction of the desert, with the fight being pressed against them. In their very midst, meanwhile, those who had been in the city were spreading destruction.
43 και εκοψαν τον βενιαμιν καταπαυσαι αυτον καταπαυσιν και κατεπατησαν αυτον εως εξ εναντιας της γαβαα απο ανατολων ηλιου	43 The men of Benjamin had been surrounded, and were now pursued to a point east of Gibeah,
44 και επεσαν εκ του βενιαμιν οκτωκαιδεκα χιλιαδες ανδρων συν πασιν τουτοις ανδρες δυνατοι	44 while eighteen thousand of them fell, warriors to a man.
45 και εξεκλιναν και εφυγον εις την ερημον προς την πετραν την ρεμμων και εκαλαμησαντο εν ταις οδοις πεντε χιλιαδας ανδρων και προσεκολληθησαν οπισω αυτου εως γαδααμ και επαταξαν εξ αυτων δισχιλιους ανδρας	45 The rest turned and fled through the desert to the rock Rimmon. But on the highways the Israelites picked off five thousand men among them, and chasing them up to Gidom, killed another two thousand of them there.
46 και εγενοντο παντες οι πεπτωκοτες εν τω βενιαμιν εικοσι και πεντε χιλιαδες ανδρων σπωμενων ρομφαιαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη συν πασι τουτοις ανδρες δυνατοι	46 Those of Benjamin who fell on that day were in all twenty-five thousand swordsmen, warriors to a man.
47 και εξεκλιναν και εφυγον εις την ερημον προς την πετραν την ρεμμων εξακοσιοι ανδρες και εκαθισαν εν τη πετρα ρεμμων τετραμηνον	47 But six hundred others who turned and fled through the desert reached the rock Rimmon, where they remained for four months.
48 και ανηρ ισραηλ απεκλεισεν τους υιους βενιαμιν και επαταξαν αυτους εν στοματι ρομφαιας απο πολεως εξης εως κτηνους εως παντος του ευρεθεντος εις πασας τας πολεις και τας πολεις τας ευρεθεισας εξαπεστειλαν εν πυρι	48 The men of Israel withdrew through the territory of the Benjaminites, putting to the sword the inhabitants of the cities, the livestock, and all they chanced upon. Moreover they destroyed by fire all the cities they came upon.
