LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
εν ετει δωδεκατω τω αχαζ βασιλει ιουδα εβασιλευσεν ωσηε υιος ηλα εν σαμαρεια επι ισραηλ εννεα ετη1 In the twelfth year of Ahaz, king of Judah, Hoshea, son of Elah, began his nine-year reign over Israel in Samaria.
και εποιησεν το πονηρον εν οφθαλμοις κυριου πλην ουχ ως οι βασιλεις ισραηλ οι ησαν εμπροσθεν αυτου2 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, yet not to the extent of the kings of Israel before him.
επ' αυτον ανεβη σαλαμανασαρ βασιλευς ασσυριων και εγενηθη αυτω ωσηε δουλος και επεστρεψεν αυτω μαναα3 Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, advanced against him, and Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute.
και ευρεν βασιλευς ασσυριων εν τω ωσηε αδικιαν οτι απεστειλεν αγγελους προς σηγωρ βασιλεα αιγυπτου και ουκ ηνεγκεν μαναα τω βασιλει ασσυριων εν τω ενιαυτω εκεινω και επολιορκησεν αυτον ο βασιλευς ασσυριων και εδησεν αυτον εν οικω φυλακης4 But the king of Assyria found Hoshea guilty of conspiracy for sending envoys to the king of Egypt at Sais, and for failure to pay the annual tribute to his Assyrian overlord.
και ανεβη ο βασιλευς ασσυριων εν παση τη γη και ανεβη εις σαμαρειαν και επολιορκησεν επ' αυτην τρια ετη5 For this, the king of Assyria arrested and imprisoned Hoshea; he then occupied the whole land and attacked Samaria, which he besieged for three years.
εν ετει ενατω ωσηε συνελαβεν βασιλευς ασσυριων την σαμαρειαν και απωκισεν τον ισραηλ εις ασσυριους και κατωκισεν αυτους εν αλαε και εν αβωρ ποταμοις γωζαν και ορη μηδων6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria, and deported the Israelites to Assyria, settling them in Halah, at the Habor, a river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
και εγενετο οτι ημαρτον οι υιοι ισραηλ τω κυριω θεω αυτων τω αναγαγοντι αυτους εκ γης αιγυπτου υποκατωθεν χειρος φαραω βασιλεως αιγυπτου και εφοβηθησαν θεους ετερους7 This came about because the Israelites sinned against the LORD, their God, who had brought them up from the land of Egypt, from under the domination of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and because they venerated other gods.
και επορευθησαν τοις δικαιωμασιν των εθνων ων εξηρεν κυριος απο προσωπου υιων ισραηλ και οι βασιλεις ισραηλ οσοι εποιησαν8 They followed the rites of the nations whom the LORD had cleared out of the way of the Israelites (and the kings of Israel whom they set up).
και οσοι ημφιεσαντο οι υιοι ισραηλ λογους ουχ ουτως κατα κυριου θεου αυτων και ωκοδομησαν εαυτοις υψηλα εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν αυτων απο πυργου φυλασσοντων εως πολεως οχυρας9 They adopted unlawful practices toward the LORD, their God. They built high places in all their settlements, the watchtowers as well as the walled cities.
και εστηλωσαν εαυτοις στηλας και αλση επι παντι βουνω υψηλω και υποκατω παντος ξυλου αλσωδους10 They set up pillars and sacred poles for themselves on every high hill and under every leafy tree.
και εθυμιασαν εκει εν πασιν υψηλοις καθως τα εθνη α απωκισεν κυριος εκ προσωπου αυτων και εποιησαν κοινωνους και εχαραξαν του παροργισαι τον κυριον11 There, on all the high places, they burned incense like the nations whom the LORD had sent into exile at their coming. They did evil things that provoked the LORD,
και ελατρευσαν τοις ειδωλοις οις ειπεν κυριος αυτοις ου ποιησετε το ρημα τουτο κυριω12 and served idols, although the LORD had told them, "You must not do this."
και διεμαρτυρατο κυριος εν τω ισραηλ και εν τω ιουδα εν χειρι παντων των προφητων αυτου παντος ορωντος λεγων αποστραφητε απο των οδων υμων των πονηρων και φυλαξατε τας εντολας μου και τα δικαιωματα μου και παντα τον νομον ον ενετειλαμην τοις πατρασιν υμων οσα απεστειλα αυτοις εν χειρι των δουλων μου των προφητων13 And though the LORD warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and seer, "Give up your evil ways and keep my commandments and statutes, in accordance with the entire law which I enjoined on your fathers and which I sent you by my servants the prophets,"
και ουκ ηκουσαν και εσκληρυναν τον νωτον αυτων υπερ τον νωτον των πατερων αυτων14 they did not listen, but were as stiff-necked as their fathers, who had not believed in the LORD, their God.
και τα μαρτυρια αυτου οσα διεμαρτυρατο αυτοις ουκ εφυλαξαν και επορευθησαν οπισω των ματαιων και εματαιωθησαν και οπισω των εθνων των περικυκλω αυτων ων ενετειλατο αυτοις του μη ποιησαι κατα ταυτα15 They rejected his statutes, the covenant which he had made with their fathers, and the warnings which he had given them. The vanity they pursued, they themselves became: they followed the surrounding nations whom the LORD had commanded them not to imitate.
εγκατελιπον τας εντολας κυριου θεου αυτων και εποιησαν εαυτοις χωνευμα δυο δαμαλεις και εποιησαν αλση και προσεκυνησαν παση τη δυναμει του ουρανου και ελατρευσαν τω βααλ16 They disregarded all the commandments of the LORD, their God, and made for themselves two molten calves; they also made a sacred pole and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
και διηγον τους υιους αυτων και τας θυγατερας αυτων εν πυρι και εμαντευοντο μαντειας και οιωνιζοντο και επραθησαν του ποιησαι το πονηρον εν οφθαλμοις κυριου παροργισαι αυτον17 They immolated their sons and daughters by fire, practiced fortune-telling and divination, and sold themselves into evil doing in the LORD'S sight, provoking him
και εθυμωθη κυριος σφοδρα εν τω ισραηλ και απεστησεν αυτους απο του προσωπου αυτου και ουχ υπελειφθη πλην φυλη ιουδα μονωτατη18 till, in his great anger against Israel, the LORD put them away out of his sight. Only the tribe of Judah was left.
και γε ιουδας ουκ εφυλαξεν τας εντολας κυριου του θεου αυτων και επορευθησαν εν τοις δικαιωμασιν ισραηλ οις εποιησαν19 Even the people of Judah, however, did not keep the commandments of the LORD, their God, but followed the rites practiced by Israel.
και απεωσαντο τον κυριον εν παντι σπερματι ισραηλ και εσαλευσεν αυτους και εδωκεν αυτους εν χειρι διαρπαζοντων αυτους εως ου απερριψεν αυτους απο προσωπου αυτου20 So the LORD rejected the whole race of Israel. He afflicted them and delivered them over to plunderers, finally casting them out from before him.
οτι πλην ισραηλ επανωθεν οικου δαυιδ και εβασιλευσαν τον ιεροβοαμ υιον ναβατ και εξεωσεν ιεροβοαμ τον ισραηλ εξοπισθεν κυριου και εξημαρτεν αυτους αμαρτιαν μεγαλην21 When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam, son of Nebat, king; he drove the Israelites away from the LORD, causing them to commit a great sin.
και επορευθησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ εν παση αμαρτια ιεροβοαμ η εποιησεν ουκ απεστησαν απ' αυτης22 The Israelites imitated Jeroboam in all the sins he committed, nor would they desist from them.
εως ου μετεστησεν κυριος τον ισραηλ απο προσωπου αυτου καθως ελαλησεν κυριος εν χειρι παντων των δουλων αυτου των προφητων και απωκισθη ισραηλ επανωθεν της γης αυτου εις ασσυριους εως της ημερας ταυτης23 Finally, the LORD put Israel away out of his sight as he had foretold through all his servants, the prophets; and Israel went into exile from their native soil to Assyria, an exile lasting to the present.
και ηγαγεν βασιλευς ασσυριων εκ βαβυλωνος τον εκ χουνθα και απο αια και απο αιμαθ και σεπφαρουαιν και κατωκισθησαν εν πολεσιν σαμαρειας αντι των υιων ισραηλ και εκληρονομησαν την σαμαρειαν και κατωκησαν εν ταις πολεσιν αυτης24 The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the Israelites. They took possession of Samaria and dwelt in its cities.
και εγενετο εν αρχη της καθεδρας αυτων ουκ εφοβηθησαν τον κυριον και απεστειλεν κυριος εν αυτοις τους λεοντας και ησαν αποκτεννοντες εν αυτοις25 When they first settled there, they did not venerate the LORD, so he sent lions among them that killed some of their number.
και ειπον τω βασιλει ασσυριων λεγοντες τα εθνη α απωκισας και αντεκαθισας εν πολεσιν σαμαρειας ουκ εγνωσαν το κριμα του θεου της γης και απεστειλεν εις αυτους τους λεοντας και ιδου εισιν θανατουντες αυτους καθοτι ουκ οιδασιν το κριμα του θεου της γης26 A report reached the king of Assyria: "The nations whom you deported and settled in the cities of Samaria do not know how to worship the God of the land, and he has sent lions among them that are killing them, since they do not know how to worship the God of the land."
και ενετειλατο ο βασιλευς ασσυριων λεγων απαγετε εκειθεν και πορευεσθωσαν και κατοικειτωσαν εκει και φωτιουσιν αυτους το κριμα του θεου της γης27 The king of Assyria gave the order, "Send back one of the priests whom I deported, to go there and settle, to teach them how to worship the God of the land."
και ηγαγον ενα των ιερεων ων απωκισαν απο σαμαρειας και εκαθισεν εν βαιθηλ και ην φωτιζων αυτους πως φοβηθωσιν τον κυριον28 So one of the priests who had been deported from Samaria returned and settled in Bethel, and taught them how to venerate the LORD.
και ησαν ποιουντες εθνη εθνη θεους αυτων και εθηκαν εν οικω των υψηλων ων εποιησαν οι σαμαριται εθνη εν ταις πολεσιν αυτων εν αις κατωκουν εν αυταις29 But these peoples began to make their own gods in the various cities in which they were living; in the shrines on the high places which the Samarians had made, each people set up gods.
και οι ανδρες βαβυλωνος εποιησαν την σοκχωθβαινιθ και οι ανδρες χουθ εποιησαν την νηριγελ και οι ανδρες αιμαθ εποιησαν την ασιμαθ30 Thus the Babylonians made Marduk and his consort; the men of Cuth made Nergal; the men of Hamath made Ashima;
και οι ευαιοι εποιησαν την εβλαζερ και την θαρθακ και οι σεπφαρουαιν κατεκαιον τους υιους αυτων εν πυρι τω αδραμελεχ και ανημελεχ θεοις σεπφαρουαιν31 the men of Avva made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the men of Sepharvaim immolated their children by fire to their city gods, King Hadad and his consort Anath.
και ησαν φοβουμενοι τον κυριον και κατωκισαν τα βδελυγματα αυτων εν τοις οικοις των υψηλων α εποιησαν εν σαμαρεια εθνος εθνος εν πολει εν η κατωκουν εν αυτη και ησαν φοβουμενοι τον κυριον και εποιησαν εαυτοις ιερεις των υψηλων και εποιησαν εαυτοις εν οικω των υψηλων32 They also venerated the LORD, choosing from their number priests for the high places, who officiated for them in the shrines on the high places.
τον κυριον εφοβουντο και τοις θεοις αυτων ελατρευον κατα το κριμα των εθνων οθεν απωκισεν αυτους εκειθεν33 But, while venerating the LORD, they served their own gods, following the worship of the nations from among whom they had been deported.
(They did not venerate the LORD nor observe the statutes and regulations, the law and commandments, which the LORD enjoined on the descendants of Jacob, whom he had named Israel.
και διεθετο κυριος μετ' αυτων διαθηκην και ενετειλατο αυτοις λεγων ου φοβηθησεσθε θεους ετερους και ου προσκυνησετε αυτοις και ου λατρευσετε αυτοις και ου θυσιασετε αυτοις35 When he made a covenant with them, he commanded them: "You must not venerate other gods, nor worship them, nor serve them, nor offer sacrifice to them.
οτι αλλ' η τω κυριω ος ανηγαγεν υμας εκ γης αιγυπτου εν ισχυι μεγαλη και εν βραχιονι υψηλω αυτον φοβηθησεσθε και αυτω προσκυνησετε και αυτω θυσετε36 The LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and outstretched arm: him shall you venerate, him shall you worship, and to him shall you sacrifice.
και τα δικαιωματα και τα κριματα και τον νομον και τας εντολας ας εγραψεν υμιν φυλασσεσθε ποιειν πασας τας ημερας και ου φοβηθησεσθε θεους ετερους37 You must be careful to observe forever the statutes and regulations, the law and commandment, which he wrote for you, and you must not venerate other gods.
και την διαθηκην ην διεθετο μεθ' υμων ουκ επιλησεσθε και ου φοβηθησεσθε θεους ετερους38 The covenant which I made with you, you must not forget; you must not venerate other gods.
οτι αλλ' η τον κυριον θεον υμων φοβηθησεσθε και αυτος εξελειται υμας εκ παντων των εχθρων υμων39 But the LORD, your God, you must venerate; it is he who will deliver you from the power of all your enemies."
και ουκ ακουσεσθε επι τω κριματι αυτων ο αυτοι ποιουσιν40 They did not listen, however, but continued in their earlier manner.)
και ησαν τα εθνη ταυτα φοβουμενοι τον κυριον και τοις γλυπτοις αυτων ησαν δουλευοντες και γε οι υιοι και οι υιοι των υιων αυτων καθα εποιησαν οι πατερες αυτων ποιουσιν εως της ημερας ταυτης41 Thus these nations venerated the LORD, but also served their idols. And their sons and grandsons, to this day, are doing as their fathers did.
