1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.	1 Boóz ekkor felment a kapuba, és leült ott. Amikor látta, hogy arra megy az a rokon, akiről már szó volt, megkérte: »Gyere ide egy kicsit, ülj csak le ide!« s a nevén szólította őt. Az odament és leült.
2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.	2 Boóz ekkor odahívott tíz férfit a város vénei közül, és azt mondta nekik: »Üljetek ide!«
3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:	3 Amikor leültek, így szólt a rokonhoz: »Elimelek testvérünk földjét eladja Noémi, aki visszatért Moáb földjéről.
4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.	4 Akartam, hogy halljad, és megmondjam ezt neked mindazok előtt, akik itt ülnek, s népem vénei előtt. Ha magadnak akarod a rokonság jogánál fogva, vedd meg és legyen a tiéd! De ha nem akarod, mondd meg nekem azt is, hogy tudjam, mit kell tennem. Nincs ugyanis más rokon, csak te, aki az első vagy, és én, aki a második vagyok.« Az ember azt felelte: »Megveszem a mezőt.«
5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.	5 Boóz erre így szólt: »De ha megveszed a mezőt az asszony kezéből, akkor el kell venned a moábi Rútot is, aki az elhunytnak a felesége volt, hogy fenntartsd rokonod nevét örökségén.«
6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.	6 Erre ő azt felelte: »Lemondok a rokoni jogról, mert nem vagyok köteles tönkretenni saját családom utódait. Élj te a jogommal! Kijelentem, hogy szívesen megválok tőle.«
7 Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.	7 Régente az volt ugyanis a szokás Izraelben a rokonok között, hogy amikor valaki a jogát másnak átengedte, az átengedés megerősítésére az illető leoldotta saruját, és odaadta a társának. Ez volt az átengedés bizonyítéka Izraelben.
8 Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.	8 Boóz tehát azt mondta a rokonának: »Vesd le a sarudat!« Az mindjárt le is oldotta a lábáról.
9 And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.	9 Boóz ekkor így szólt a vénekhez és az egész néphez: »Ti vagytok ma a tanúi annak, hogy megszereztem Noémi kezéből mindazt, ami Elimeleké, Kelioné és Maháloné volt!
10 Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.	10 A moábi Rútot, Mahálon feleségét feleségül vettem, hogy fenntartsam az elhunytnak a nevét örökségén, hogy el ne tűnjék neve családjából, testvérei közül és népéből. Mondom, ti vagytok e dolog tanúi!«
11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:	11 Az egész nép, amely a kapuban volt, a vénekkel együtt azt felelte: »Tanúi vagyunk. Tegye az Úr ezt az asszonyt, aki házadba megy, olyanná, mint Ráhelt és Leát, akik felépítették Izrael házát. Légy az erény példaképe Efratában, s neved dicső legyen Betlehemben!
12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.	12 Azon utód által, akit az Úr neked majd ettől az asszonytól ad, olyan legyen házad, mint Fáresznek a háza, akit Támár szült Júdának!«
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.	13 Erre Boóz magához vette Rútot. Feleségül vette, bement hozzá, az Úr pedig megadta az asszonynak, hogy foganjon és fiút szüljön.
14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.	14 Azt mondták ekkor az asszonyok Noéminak: »Áldott az Úr, aki nem engedte, hogy ne legyen utódja családodnak! Emlékezzenek meg nevéről Izraelben!
15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.	15 Így most már lesz, aki megvigasztalja lelkedet, gyámolítja öregségedet, hiszen a menyed szülte, aki szeret téged, és sokkal többet ér néked, mintha hét fiad lenne.«
16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.	16 Erre Noémi felvette a gyermeket, az ölébe helyezte, és dajkája és hordozója lett.
17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.	17 Ekkor a szomszédasszonyok szerencsét kívántak neki, és azt mondták: »Fia született Noéminek!« És elnevezték Obednek. Ő Izájnak, Dávid apjának apja.
18 Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,	18 Fáresz nemzetsége a következő: Fáresz nemzette Ezront,
19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,	19 Ezron nemzette Arámot, Arám nemzette Aminádábot,

21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,	21 Szálmon nemzette Boózt, Boóz nemzette Obedet,
22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.	22 Obed nemzette Izájt, Izáj nemzette Dávidot.
