1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead.	1 Anche dopo la morte di Eud gli Israeliti continuarono a compiere ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore,
2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.	2 il quale li abbandonò nelle mani di Iabin, un re cananeo che regnava in Azor, e in quelle del comandante del suo esercito che si chiamava Sisara e risiedeva a Caroset-Goim.
3 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.	3 Gli Israeliti alzarono allora il loro grido al Signore, perché Iabin, che aveva novecento carri da guerra di ferro, li opprimeva duramente da vent'anni.
4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.	4 C'era Debora, una profetessa, moglie di Lappidot, la quale in quel tempo era giudice in Israele.
5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.	5 Se ne stava seduta sotto la palma che porta il suo nome, fra Rama e Betel, nella montagna di Efraim, e gli Israeliti salivano a lei quando avevano bisogno di un giudizio.
6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?	6 Un giorno essa mandò a chiamare Barak, figlio di Abinoam, a Kedes di Neftali, e gli disse: "Il Signore, Dio di Israele, ti ordina di andare ad arruolare sul monte Tabor diecimila uomini delle tribù di Neftali e di Zabulon e di portarli con te;
7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.	7 dice che condurrà davanti a te, al fiume Kison, Sisara, comandante dell'esercito di Iabin, con i suoi carri e le sue truppe e li darà nelle tue mani".
8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.	8 Barak le disse: "Se verrai con me, ci andrò; ma se tu non verrai con me, io non mi muoverò".
9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.	9 Rispose Debora: "Vengo senz'altro, solo che la gloria dell'impresa alla quale ti accingi non sarà tua perché il Signore darà Sisara nelle mani di una donna". E Debora si mosse e andò a Kedes con Barak.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.	10 Barak, radunata in Kedes la gente di Zabulon e di Neftali, mosse alla testa di diecimila uomini e Debora andò con lui.
11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.	11 Eber il kenita si era separato dai Keniti, discendenti da Obab, suocero di Mosè: così era arrivato a porre la sua tenda alla quercia di Saannaim, che è vicino a Kedes.
12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.	12 Quando Sisara seppe che Barak, figlio di Abinoam, era giunto sul monte Tabor,
13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.	13 radunò tutti i suoi carri da guerra, novecento carri di ferro, e tutti i suoi uomini e li guidò da Caroset-Goim al torrente Kison.
14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.	14 Disse allora Debora a Barak: "Avanti, ché questo è il giorno in cui il Signore darà Sisara nelle tue mani; egli marcia davanti a te". Barak scese dal monte Tabor e i suoi diecimila uomini lo seguirono.
15 And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.	15 Allora il Signore gettò nel terrore e travolse Sisara, tutti i suoi carri e tutto il suo esercito, che fu massacrato davanti a Barak. Sisara scese dal carro e continuò la sua fuga a piedi.
16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.	16 Barak inseguì i carri da guerra e la fanteria fino a Caroset-Goim: tutto l'esercito di Sisara fu passato a fil di spada e non si salvò nessuno.
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.	17 Fuggendo a piedi, Sisara si diresse alla tenda di Giaele, moglie di Eber il kenita, perché c'era pace fra Iabin, re di Azor, e la casa di Eber il kenita.
18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.	18 Giaele uscì incontro a Sisara e gli disse: "Vieni, signore, vieni da me e non temere". Questi entrò nella tenda di Giaele, che gli offrì di nasconderlo sotto un grosso panno.
19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.	19 Sisara intanto chiedeva di dargli da bere un po' d'acqua, perché aveva sete, ed essa, aperto l'otre del latte, lo fece bere e lo coprì.
20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and inquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.	20 Sisara le disse: "Mettiti alla porta della tenda e se qualcuno verrà a domandarti se qui c'è un uomo, rispondi di no".
21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.	21 Ma Giaele, moglie di Eber, prese un piolo della tenda e, impugnato il martello, rientrò piano piano dove giaceva Sisara: gli piantò nella tempia il piolo che si conficcò nel suolo. Su Sisara, che si era addormentato profondamente, calarono le tenebre e morì.
22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.	22 Ed ecco giungere Barak all'inseguimento di Sisara. Giaele gli uscì incontro e gli disse: "Vieni, ché ti faccio vedere l'uomo che stai cercando". Egli entrò nella tenda della donna e vide Sisara che giaceva morto col piolo conficcato nelle tempie.
23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.	23 Quel giorno Dio umiliò il re cananeo Iabin davanti agli Israeliti.
24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.	24 La loro mano si fece sempre più pesante sopra di lui, finché non lo annientarono del tutto.
