1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,	1 Lettre de Pierre, apôtre de Jésus Christ, aux émigrants dispersés dans les provinces du Pont, de Galatie, de Cappadoce, d’Asie et de Bithynie,
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.	2 aux élus que Dieu le Père a connus d’avance et qui ont été sanctifiés par l’Esprit afin de recevoir la foi et d’être lavés par le sang de Jésus Christ. Que la grâce et la paix débordent sur vous!
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,	3 Béni soit Dieu, le Père de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur! Comme sa miséricorde est grande! En ressuscitant Jésus Christ d’entre les morts, il nous a donné une vie nouvelle et une vivante espérance.
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,	4 C’est à vous qu’il réservait l’héritage céleste, ce trésor qui ne se perd pas, qui ne se gâte pas, qui ne vieillit pas.
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.	5 La puissance de Dieu vous garde, par le moyen de la foi, en vue du salut qu’il est près de nous dévoiler aux derniers temps.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:	6 C’est là votre joie, même si pour un moment vous êtes affligés de toutes sortes de calamités.
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:	7 Si l’or doit subir l’épreuve du feu (et ce n’est qu’une chose périssable), combien plus votre foi qui a beaucoup plus de valeur. Et vous en recevrez louange, gloire et honneur quand Jésus Christ se montrera à découvert.
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:	8 Sans le voir vous l’aimez, puisque dès maintenant sans le voir vous croyez en lui, et personne ne saurait exprimer cette joie si élevée
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.	9 d’avoir déjà, car c’est le but de votre foi, le salut de vos âmes.
10 Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:	10 Les prophètes ont parlé de cette faveur que vous deviez recevoir, ils ont voulu savoir et ils se sont posé bien des questions à propos de ce salut.
11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.	11 L’esprit du Christ était en eux et déjà leur faisait connaître ce que le Messie devait souffrir et la Gloire qui lui viendrait ensuite. Mais ils se demandaient: qui sera-t-il? Quand cela sera-t-il?
12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.	12 Et il leur a été révélé que tout cela serait, sinon pour eux, du moins pour vous. Ils préparaient ce qui maintient les anges en admiration et qui maintenant vous a été annoncé, car vos évangélisateurs ont été portés par l’Esprit Saint envoyé du ciel.
13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;	13 Donc soyez prêts intérieurement, et restez vigilants. Mettez toute votre espérance dans ce bien unique que vous apportera la manifestation du Christ Jésus.
14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:	14 Puisque vous avez accepté la foi, ne soyez plus à la remorque de vos anciennes passions, comme au temps où vous ne saviez pas.
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;	15 Celui qui vous a appelés est Saint: vous aussi soyez saints dans toute votre façon de vivre.
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.	16 L’Écriture l’a dit: Soyez saints car je suis Saint.
17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:	17 Le Père que vous invoquez ne fera pas de favoritisme mais jugera chacun selon ses œuvres; veillez donc sur votre conduite tout le temps que vous résidez ici-bas.
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;	18 Vous le savez: vous avez été libérés des vaines pratiques héritées de vos pères, non pas à prix d’or et d’argent ou de valeurs périssables,
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:	19 mais grâce au sang précieux du Christ, l’Agneau sans tache ni défaut.
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,	20 Dieu pensait à lui dès la création de l’univers, mais c’est à la fin des temps qu’il l’a fait venir pour vous.
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.	21 Et grâce à lui vous avez cru au Dieu qui l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts et lui a donné la Gloire, afin que vous puissiez croire et espérer en Dieu.
22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:	22 En acceptant la vérité, vous avez sanctifié vos âmes, devenant ainsi capables d’un amour fraternel et sincère. Aimez-vous donc réellement les uns les autres du fond du cœur
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.	23 puisque cette fois-ci vous avez été engendrés, non d’une semence corruptible mais par la parole incorruptible du Dieu qui vit et qui demeure.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:	24 Oui, toute chair est comme l’herbe, et sa gloire, comme l’herbe des champs. L’herbe a séché et sa fleur est tombée,
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.	25 mais la parole du Seigneur demeure pour toujours. Et cette parole, c’est l’Évangile qui vous a été annoncé.
