Joshua 6

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.	1 Or Jéricho s'était enfermée et barricadée (contre les Israélites): personne n'en sortait et personne n'yentrait.
2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.	2 Yahvé dit alors à Josué: "Vois! Je livre entre tes mains Jéricho et son roi, gens d'élite.
3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.	3 Vous tous les combattants, vous contournerez la ville (pour en faire une fois le tour, et pendant sixjours tu feras de même.
4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.	4 Sept prêtres porteront en avant de l'arche sept trompes en corne de bélier. Le septième jour, vous ferezsept fois le tour de la ville et les prêtres sonneront de la trompe).
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.	5 Lorsque la corne de bélier retentira (quand vous entendrez le son de la trompe), tout le peuplepoussera un grand cri de guerre et le rempart de la ville s'écroulera sur place; alors le peuple montera à l'assaut,chacun droit devant soi."
6 And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD.	6 Josué, fils de Nûn, appela les prêtres et leur dit: "Prenez l'arche d'alliance, et que sept prêtres portentsept trompes en corne de bélier en avant de l'arche de Yahvé."
7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the LORD.	7 Puis il dit au peuple: "Passez et faites le tour de la ville, et que l'avant-garde passe devant l'arche deYahvé."
8 And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the LORD, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.	8 (Il fut fait comme Josué l'avait dit au peuple). Sept prêtres portant les sept trompes en corne de bélierdevant Yahvé passèrent et sonnèrent de la trompe; l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé venait après eux,
9 And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.	9 l'avant-garde précédait les prêtres qui sonnaient de la trompe et l'arrière-garde venait après l'arche: onallait et l'on sonnait de la trompe.
10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.	10 Au peuple, Josué avait donné l'ordre suivant: "Ne criez pas et ne faites pas entendre votre voix (qu'ilne sorte pas un mot de votre bouche), jusqu'au jour où je vous dirai: Poussez le cri de guerre! Alors vouspousserez le cri de guerre."
11 So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.	11 Il fit faire à l'arche de Yahvé le tour de la ville (en la contournant une fois), puis on rentra au campoù l'on passa la nuit.
12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD.	12 Josué se leva de bon matin et les prêtres prirent l'arche de Yahvé.
13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the LORD, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.	13 Munis des sept trompes en corne de bélier, les sept prêtres marchant devant l'arche de Yahvésonnaient de leur trompe pendant la marche, tandis que l'avant-garde allait devant eux, l'arrière-garde à la suitede l'arche de Yahvé, et que l'on défilait au son de la trompe.
14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.	14 On fit le tour de la ville (le second jour) une fois, et l'on rentra au camp; c'est ainsi que l'on fitpendant six jours.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.	15 Le septième jour, s'étant levés dès l'aurore, ils firent le tour de la ville (selon le même rite) sept fois.(C'est seulement ce jour-là qu'on fit sept fois le tour de la ville.)
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.	16 La septième fois, les prêtres sonnèrent de la trompe et Josué dit au peuple: "Poussez le cri de guerre,car Yahvé vous a livré la ville!"
17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.	17 "La ville sera dévouée par anathème à Yahvé, avec tout ce qui s'y trouve. Seule Rahab, la prostituée,aura la vie sauve ainsi que tous ceux qui sont avec elle dans sa maison, parce qu'elle a caché les émissaires quenous avions envoyés.
18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.	18 Mais vous, prenez bien garde à l'anathème, de peur que, poussés par la convoitise, vous ne preniezquelque chose de ce qui est anathème, car ce serait rendre anathème le camp d'Israël et lui porter malheur.
19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.	19 Tout l'argent et tout l'or, tous les objets de bronze et de fer seront consacrés à Yahvé, ils entrerontdans son trésor."
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.	20 Le peuple poussa le cri de guerre et l'on sonna de la trompe. Quand il entendit le son de la trompe, lepeuple poussa un grand cri de guerre, et le rempart s'écroula sur place. Aussitôt le peuple monta vers la ville,chacun devant soi, et ils s'emparèrent de la ville.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.	21 Ils dévouèrent à l'anathème tout ce qui se trouvait dans la ville, hommes et femmes, jeunes et vieux,jusqu'aux taureaux, aux moutons et aux ânes, les passant au fil de l'épée.
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.	22 Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient espionné le pays: "Entrez dans la maison de la prostituée etfaites-en sortir cette femme avec tous ceux qui lui appartiennent, ainsi que vous le lui avez juré."
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.	23 Ces jeunes gens, les espions, s'y rendirent et en firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, ses frères ettous ceux qui lui appartenaient. Ils en firent sortir aussi tout son clan et les mirent en lieu sûr, en dehors du campd'Israël.
24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.	24 On brûla la ville et tout ce qu'elle contenait, sauf l'argent, l'or et les objets de bronze et de fer qu'onlivra au trésor de la Maison de Yahvé.
25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.	25 Mais Rahab, la prostituée, ainsi que la maison de son père et tous ceux qui lui appartenaient, Josuéleur laissa la vie sauve. Elle est demeurée au milieu d'Israël jusqu'aujourd'hui, pour avoir caché les émissairesque Josué avait envoyés espionner Jéricho.
26 And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.	26 En ce temps-là, Josué fit prononcer ce serment: "Maudit soit, devant Yahvé, l'homme qui se lèverapour rebâtir cette ville (Jéricho)! Il la fondera sur son aîné, et en posera les portes sur son cadet!"
27 So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.	27 Et Yahvé fut avec Josué, dont la renommée se répandit dans tout le pays.
