2 Corinthians 5

1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.	1 Nous le savons, si notre maison terrestre, il faudrait dire notre tente, vient à se démonter, Dieu nous réserve une habitation dans le ciel, une maison qui n’est pas faite de main d’homme et qui est pour toujours.
2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:	2 Mais cela même fait naître en nous un désir insatisfait, car nous voudrions bien que notre demeure céleste vienne recouvrir l’actuelle.
3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.	3 (En supposant que nous ayons encore celle-ci et ne soyons pas sans rien.)
4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.	4 Oui, tant que nous sommes sous notre tente, c’est pour nous un poids et une angoisse: nous ne voudrions pas qu’on nous en dépouille mais que l’autre vienne par-dessus et que la vie vienne absorber ce qui est mortel.
5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.	5 Et c’est Dieu qui nous a mis dans cette situation, lui qui nous a donné l’Esprit comme un premier acompte.
6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:	6 Donc, quoi qu’il arrive, nous allons sans peur, sachant que vivre en ce corps, c’est être loin du Seigneur.
7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)	7 C’est vivre avec la foi et non pas la vision.
8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.	8 Aussi allons-nous jusqu’à penser qu’il serait meilleur de sortir de ce corps pour aller vivre auprès du Seigneur.
9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.	9 En fait, ce qui nous importe, c’est de lui plaire, que nous restions ici ou que nous partions.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.	10 Tous, d’ailleurs, nous devrons nous présenter devant le tribunal du Christ, et alors chacun retrouvera ce qu’il a fait, bien ou mal, avec son corps.
11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.	11 Portés par cette crainte du Seigneur dont nous avons l’expérience, nous essayons de convaincre les hommes et de ne rien cacher à Dieu. J’espère que vous aussi vous vous rendrez compte que nous ne cachons rien.
12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.	12 Une fois encore, nous ne voulons pas nous recommander mais vous donner des arguments pour être fiers de nous, et pour répondre à ceux qui mettent leur fierté dans de pures apparences au lieu des réalités intérieures.
13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.	13 Si nous exagérons, que Dieu seul écoute; si nous paraissons bien dire, prenez-le pour vous.
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:	14 L’amour du Christ nous obsède et nous disons: si lui est mort pour tous, nécessairement tous sont morts.
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.	15 Et il est mort pour tous afin que, s’ils vivent, ils ne vivent plus pour eux-mêmes, mais pour celui qui est mort et ressuscité pour eux.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.	16 Aussi nous ne considérons plus les gens selon les critères humains; même le Christ, si nous l’avons connu dans son existence humaine, nous ne devons plus le connaître ainsi.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.	17 Toute personne qui est dans le Christ est une création nouvelle. Ce qui était est du passé: le neuf est arrivé.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;	18 Et tout cela, c’est l’œuvre de Dieu qui nous a réconciliés avec lui par le Christ et qui, à nous-mêmes, nous confie l’œuvre de la réconciliation.
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.	19 Dans le Christ, Dieu réconciliait le monde avec lui-même et ne tenait plus les comptes de leurs fautes. Et il nous a confié le message de réconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.	20 Oui, nous sommes les ambassadeurs du Christ, et à travers nous c’est Dieu qui appelle. Nous supplions au nom du Christ: Laissez-vous réconcilier avec Dieu!
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.	21 Pour nous il a identifié avec le péché celui qui ne connaissait pas le péché, afin que nous devenions en lui justice et sainteté de Dieu.
