1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 Après cela il y eut une fête des Juifs, et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.	2 À Jérusalem, près de la Porte des Brebis, il y a une piscine appelée en hébreu Bétesda. Elle a cinq rangées d’arcades,
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.	3 et sous les arcades étaient étendus une quantité de malades, avec des aveugles, des boiteux et des paralysés. (Tous attendaient que l’eau bouge,
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.	4 car de temps en temps un ange du Seigneur descendait dans la piscine et faisait bouillonner l’eau. Lorsque l’eau avait été agitée, le premier qui descendait était guéri, quelle que soit sa maladie.)
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.	5 Il y avait donc là un homme qui était infirme depuis 38 ans.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?	6 Jésus le voit étendu. Quand il apprend que l’homme est là depuis fort longtemps, il lui dit: "Veux-tu guérir?”
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.	7 L’infirme lui répond: "Seigneur, je n’ai personne pour me jeter dans la piscine aussitôt que l’eau a été agitée, et avant que j’y aille, un autre est déjà descendu.”
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.	8 Jésus lui dit alors: "Lève-toi, prends ton brancard et marche.”
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.	9 Au même moment l’homme est guéri, il prend son brancard et il marche. Mais c’était un jour de sabbat,
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.	10 et les Juifs dirent à celui qui avait été guéri: "C’est le sabbat, tu ne peux pas transporter ton brancard.”
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.	11 Il leur répondit: "Celui qui m’a guéri m’a dit d’emporter mon brancard et de marcher.”
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?	12 Ils lui demandèrent donc: "Mais qui est cet homme qui t’a dit: Va, emporte-le?”
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.	13 L’homme qui avait été guéri ne le savait pas, car Jésus avait disparu dans la foule.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.	14 Plus tard cependant, Jésus le rencontre dans le Temple et lui dit: "Te voilà guéri; ne pèche plus, car il pourrait t’arriver bien pire.”
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.	15 L’homme alla donc dire aux Juifs que c’était Jésus qui l’avait guéri,
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.	16 et les Juifs s’indignèrent contre Jésus parce qu’il avait fait cela le jour du sabbat.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.	17 Mais Jésus leur dit: "Mon Père est encore au travail, alors moi aussi je travaille.”
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.	18 Ainsi Jésus ne se contentait pas de violer la loi du sabbat, mais encore il appelait Dieu son propre Père, se faisant ainsi l’égal de Dieu. Avec cela les Juifs avaient bien plus envie de le tuer.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.	19 Jésus prit la parole; il leur dit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: le Fils ne peut rien faire de lui-même; il faut qu’il le voie faire par son Père. Si celui-ci fait quelque chose, le Fils le fait également.
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.	20 Comme le Père aime le Fils, il lui montre tout ce qu’il fait; et il lui fera voir des œuvres bien plus importantes que ces choses-là: vous en serez tous stupéfaits.
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.	21 Puisque le Père réveille les morts et leur donne la vie, de la même façon le Fils donne la vie à qui il veut.
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:	22 “Sachez aussi que le Père ne juge personne; mais il a donné au Fils la responsabilité de juger,
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.	23 afin que tous respectent le Fils comme ils respectent le Père. Celui qui ne respecte pas le Fils ne respecte pas le Père qui l’a envoyé.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.	24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: celui qui écoute mes paroles et croit en celui qui m’a envoyé, vit de vie éternelle. Il n’a plus à être jugé, car il est passé de la mort à la vie.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.	25 “En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: l’heure vient, et elle est déjà là, où les morts vont entendre l’appel du Fils de Dieu et ceux qui l’écouteront vivront.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;	26 Car le Fils possède en lui-même la vie, tout comme le Père possède en lui-même la vie.
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.	27 Et le Père lui a donné le pouvoir de juger parce qu’il est le Fils de l’homme.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,	28 “Ne soyez pas surpris: l’heure vient, et elle est déjà là, où tous ceux qui sont dans la tombe entendront son appel.
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.	29 Ceux qui ont fait le bien sortiront et se relèveront pour la vie; ceux qui ont fait le mal se relèveront pour la condamnation.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.	30 “Je ne peux rien faire de moi-même, mais je juge selon ce que j’entends, et mon jugement est juste parce que je ne cherche pas ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m’a envoyé.
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.	31 Si je me recommande moi-même, mon témoignage ne vaut pas,
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.	32 mais c’est un autre qui me recommande et je sais que son témoignage est vrai quand il me recommande.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.	33 “De votre côté, vous avez fait demander à Jean et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité.
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.	34 Je rappelle cela pour vous-mêmes, pour que vous soyez sauvés, car personnellement je ne me fais pas recommander par un homme.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.	35 Jean était une lampe qui brûle et illumine, et pour un moment vous vous sentiez bien avec sa lumière.
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.	36 Mais moi, j’ai une recommandation meilleure que celle de Jean: ce sont les œuvres que mon Père m’a demandé de mener à bien. “Les œuvres que je fais parlent en ma faveur et montrent que le Père m’a envoyé.
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.	37 Et le Père qui m’a envoyé a aussi parlé en ma faveur. Vous n’avez jamais entendu sa voix, comme vous n’avez jamais vu sa face,
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.	38 mais même sa parole ne demeure pas en vous si vous ne croyez pas en celui qu’il a envoyé.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.	39 “Cherchez dans les Écritures, puisque vous pensez y trouver la vie éternelle: ces Écritures, justement, parlent de moi.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.	40 Mais vous ne voulez pas venir à moi et trouver ainsi la vie.
41 I receive not honour from men.	41 “Je ne cherche pas une gloire humaine.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.	42 Mais je sais qu’il n’y a pas d’amour de Dieu en vous,
43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.	43 car je suis venu au nom de mon Père et vous ne me faites pas accueil; si un autre vient en son propre nom, vous le recevez.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?	44 Ainsi vous faites crédit à la renommée qu’on se donne l’un à l’autre, et vous ne recherchez pas la gloire qui vient du Dieu unique: comment donc pourriez-vous croire?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.	45 “Ne pensez pas que je serai votre accusateur auprès du Père: c’est Moïse qui vous accuse, celui en qui vous mettez vos espoirs.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.	46 Si vous aviez foi en Moïse, vous croiriez en moi, car il a écrit sur moi.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?	47 Mais si vous ne croyez pas ses écrits, comment croirez-vous mes paroles?
