Deuteronomy 24

1 When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes, because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.	1 Voici encore un cas. Un homme a pris une femme et l’a épousée. Mais ensuite il a trouvé quelque chose à lui reprocher, et il n’en veut plus. Il lui écrit donc une lettre de divorce, il la lui remet et la chasse de chez lui.
2 And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.	2 La femme quitte sa maison et par la suite devient la femme d’un autre homme.
3 And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;	3 Mais elle déplaît également à ce deuxième mari, qui va lui écrire une lettre de divorce, la lui remettre et la chasser de chez lui. Il se peut aussi que ce deuxième mari vienne à mourir.
4 Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.	4 Dans ces deux cas, le premier mari qui l’a renvoyée ne peut pas la reprendre après qu’elle est devenue impure pour lui. Elle ne peut pas redevenir sa femme: ce serait une chose abominable au regard de Yahvé, et tu ne dois pas souiller par ton péché le pays que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage.
5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.	5 Si un homme vient tout juste de se marier, il ne partira pas à la guerre, on ne lui imposera pas non plus de corvée. Pendant un an on le laissera tranquille chez lui pour qu’il rende heureuse la femme qu’il a épousée.
6 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man's life to pledge.	6 On ne prendra pas en gage le moulin, ni même la meule de dessus, car ce serait prendre en gage la vie elle-même.
7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.	7 Si l’on découvre un homme qui a enlevé l’un de ses frères Israélite et qui en a fait son esclave, ou qui l’a vendu, ce ravisseur sera mis à mort; ainsi tu ôteras le mal du milieu de toi.
8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do.	8 Méfie-toi de la plaie de la lèpre. Tu suivras exactement et tu mettras en pratique tout ce que les prêtres, les Lévites, vous enseignent. Vous ferez attention à faire comme je leur ai commandé.
9 Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.	9 Rappelle-toi comment Yahvé ton Dieu a agi avec Miryam sur la route, après votre sortie d’Égypte.
10 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.	10 Lorsque tu prêteras quelque chose à ton prochain, tu n’entreras pas dans sa maison pour te servir toi-même et prendre le gage que tu veux.
11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.	11 Tu resteras dehors, et celui à qui tu prêtes viendra t’apporter le gage qu’il aura choisi.
12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge:	12 Si c’est un homme pauvre, tu ne te coucheras pas avec son gage,
13 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.	13 mais tu le lui rendras avant le coucher du soleil pour qu’il puisse se coucher dans son manteau. Ainsi il te bénira et tu auras des mérites aux yeux de Yahvé ton Dieu.
14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:	14 Tu ne feras pas de tort au pauvre qui travaille pour toi, qu’il s’agisse de l’un de tes frères ou d’un étranger qui habite dans ton pays ou dans ta ville.
15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.	15 Tu lui verseras son salaire le jour-même, et le soleil ne se couchera pas sur ce que tu lui dois, car il l’attend avec impatience: il est pauvre. Ainsi, il n’aura pas besoin de crier contre toi vers Yahvé, et toi tu ne pécheras pas.
16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.	16 Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fautes de leurs fils, ni les fils pour celles de leur père. Chacun mourra pour son propre péché.
17 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's raiment to pledge:	17 Tu ne fausseras pas le jugement de l’étranger ou de l’orphelin, et tu ne prendras pas en gage le vêtement de la veuve.
18 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.	18 Tu te souviendras que toi-même tu as été esclave en Égypte, et que Yahvé ton Dieu t’en a libéré. C’est pourquoi je te commande de faire cela.
19 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands.	19 Si tu as oublié une gerbe dans ton champ en faisant la moisson, ne reviens pas pour la prendre: elle sera pour l’étranger, l’orphelin ou la veuve. Ainsi Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira dans tout ce que tu entreprendras.
20 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.	20 Lorsque tu gauleras ton olivier, ne repasse pas une seconde fois après la cueillette: ce qui reste sera pour l’étranger, l’orphelin ou la veuve.
21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.	21 Lorsque tu vendangeras, ne repasse pas une seconde fois: ce qui reste sera pour l’étranger, l’orphelin ou la veuve.
22 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.	22 Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave en Égypte: c’est pourquoi je te commande de faire cela.
