Deuteronomy 21

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 If one be found slain in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath slain him:	1 Si l'on découvre, sur la terre que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne pour domaine, un hommeassassiné gisant dans la campagne, sans qu'on sache qui l'a frappé,
2 Then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain:	2 tes anciens et tes scribes iront mesurer la distance entre la victime et les villes d'alentour,
3 And it shall be, that the city which is next unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take an heifer, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke;	3 et détermineront quelle est la ville la plus proche de la victime. Puis les anciens de cette villeprendront une génisse qu'on n'ait pas encore fait travailler ni tirer sous le joug.
4 And the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a rough valley, which is neither eared nor sown, and shall strike off the heifer's neck there in the valley:	4 Les anciens de cette ville feront descendre la génisse à un cours d'eau qui ne tarit pas, en unlieu qui n'a été ni travaillé ni ensemencé, et là, sur le cours d'eau, ils briseront la nuque de la génisse.
5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them the LORD thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of the LORD; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried:	5 Les prêtres fils de Lévi s'approcheront; car ce sont eux que Yahvé ton Dieu a choisis pourson service et pour donner la bénédiction au nom de Yahvé, et il leur revient de prononcer sur toute querelle etsur toute voie de fait.
6 And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley:	6 Alors, tous les anciens de la ville la plus proche de l'homme tué se laveront les mains dans lecours d'eau, sur la génisse abattue.
7 And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.	7 Ils prononceront ces paroles: "Nos mains n'ont pas versé ce sang et nos yeux n'ont rien vu.
8 Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.	8 Pardonne à Israël ton peuple, toi Yahvé qui l'as racheté, et ne laisse pas verser un sanginnocent au milieu d'Israël ton peuple. Et ce sang leur sera pardonné."
9 So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.	9 Mais toi, tu feras disparaître du milieu de toi toute effusion de sang innocent, si tu veux fairece qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé.
10 When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive,	10 Lorsque tu partiras en guerre contre tes ennemis, que Yahvé ton Dieu les aura livrés en tonpouvoir et que tu leur auras fait des prisonniers,
11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;	11 si tu vois parmi eux une femme bien faite et que tu t'en éprennes, tu pourras la prendre pourfemme
12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;	12 et l'amener en ta maison. Elle se rasera la tête, se coupera les ongles
13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.	13 et quittera son vêtement de captive; elle demeurera dans ta maison et pleurera tout un moisson père et sa mère. Ensuite tu pourras t'approcher d'elle, agir en mari, et elle sera ta femme.
14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.	14 S'il arrive qu'elle cesse de te plaire, tu la laisseras partir à son gré, sans la vendre à prixd'argent: tu ne dois pas en tirer profit, puisque tu as usé d'elle.
15 If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated:	15 Si un homme a deux femmes, l'une qu'il aime et l'autre qu'il n'aime pas, et que la femmeaimée et l'autre lui donnent des fils, s'il arrive que l'aîné soit de la femme qu'il n'aime pas,
16 Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:	16 cet homme ne pourra pas le jour où il attribuera ses biens à ses fils, traiter en aîné le fils dela femme qu'il aime, au détriment du fils de la femme qu'il n'aime pas, l'aîné véritable.
17 But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.	17 Mais il reconnaîtra l'aîné dans le fils de celle-ci, en lui donnant double part de tout ce qu'ilpossède: car ce fils, prémices de sa vigueur, détient le droit d'aînesse.
18 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:	18 Si un homme a un fils dévoyé et indocile, qui ne veut écouter ni la voix de son père ni lavoix de sa mère, et qui, châtié par eux, ne les écoute pas davantage,
19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;	19 son père et sa mère se saisiront de lui et l'amèneront dehors aux anciens de la ville, à laporte du lieu.
20 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.	20 Ils diront aux anciens de sa ville: "Notre fils que voici se dévoie, il est indocile et ne nousécoute pas, il est débauché et buveur."
21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.	21 Alors tous ses citoyens le lapideront jusqu'à ce que mort s'ensuive. Tu feras disparaître lemal du milieu de toi, tout Israël l'entendra dire et craindra.
22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree:	22 Si un homme, coupable d'un crime capital, a été mis à mort et que tu l'aies pendu à un arbre,
23 His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.	23 son cadavre ne pourra être laissé la nuit sur l'arbre; tu l'enterreras le jour même, car unpendu est une malédiction de Dieu, et tu ne rendras pas impur le sol que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne en héritage.
