1 And it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.	1 Un jour de sabbat, comme Jésus traversait des blés mûrs, ses disciples commencèrent à cueillir des épis et à les écraser dans leurs mains pour les manger.
2 And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?	2 Quelques Pharisiens leur dirent: "Pourquoi faites-vous ce qui n’est pas permis le jour du sabbat?”
3 And Jesus answering them said, Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him;	3 Jésus leur répondit: "Vous n’avez donc pas lu ce qu’a fait David, et avec lui ses hommes, un jour qu’ils avaient faim?
4 How he went into the house of God, and did take and eat the shewbread, and gave also to them that were with him; which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone?	4 Il est entré dans la Maison de Dieu et il a pris les pains de l’offrande, il en a mangé et en a donné à ses hommes, alors que seuls les prêtres peuvent en manger.”
5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.	5 Jésus ajoutait: "Sachez que le Fils de l’Homme est Seigneur du sabbat!”
6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.	6 Un jour de sabbat encore, il était allé à la synagogue et il enseignait. Or il y avait là un homme dont la main droite était paralysée.
7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.	7 Les maîtres de la Loi et les Pharisiens l’épiaient pour voir s’il allait le guérir un jour de sabbat: ils auraient alors un motif pour l’accuser.
8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.	8 Mais Jésus connaissait leurs pensées; il dit à l’homme qui avait la main paralysée: "Lève-toi! Tiens-toi là au milieu.” L’autre se leva et resta debout.
9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?	9 Alors Jésus leur dit: "Je vous pose une question: le jour du sabbat, est-il permis de faire du bien ou de faire du mal, de sauver une vie ou de donner la mort?”
10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.	10 Jésus promena son regard sur l’assistance, puis il dit à l’homme: "Étends ta main!” L’autre étendit la main: elle était guérie.
11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.	11 Eux alors, au comble de la colère, commencèrent à discuter entre eux sur ce qu’ils allaient faire à Jésus.
12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.	12 En ces jours-là Jésus partit prier dans la montagne et il passa la nuit en prière avec Dieu.
13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;	13 Puis, quand vint le jour, il appela ses disciples et il en choisit douze à qui il donna le nom d’apôtres:
14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,	14 Simon, auquel il donna le nom de Pierre, André, son frère, Jacques, Jean, Philippe, Barthélemy,
15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,	15 Matthieu, Thomas, Jacques fils d’Alphée, Simon, appelé le Zélote,
16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.	16 Judas fils de Jacques, et Judas Iscariote, celui qui devait le trahir.
17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;	17 Jésus descendit avec eux et s’arrêta dans la plaine. Il y avait là un nombre impressionnant de disciples et une foule nombreuse venue de toute la Judée, de Jérusalem et des rives de Tyr et de Sidon.
18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.	18 Ils étaient venus pour l’entendre et pour être guéris de leurs maladies; s’ils étaient tourmentés par des esprits impurs, il les rétablissait.
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.	19 Toute cette foule cherchait à le toucher, parce qu’une force sortait de lui qui les guérissait tous.
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.	20 Levant les yeux vers ses disciples, Jésus leur dit: “Heureux, vous les pauvres, parce que le Royaume de Dieu est à vous!
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.	21 Heureux, vous qui avez faim maintenant, parce que vous serez rassasiés! Heureux, vous qui pleurez maintenant, parce que vous rirez!
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.	22 Heureux êtes-vous lorsque les hommes vous haïssent, lorsqu’ils vous chassent, et vous insultent, et vous mettent au rang des malfaiteurs à cause du Fils de l’Homme!
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.	23 Réjouissez-vous ce jour-là, dansez de joie, car dans le ciel votre récompense est grande. Pensez que leurs pères ont traité les prophètes de la même manière.
24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.	24 Mais malheureux, vous, les riches, car vous avez reçu votre consolation!
25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.	25 Malheureux, vous, les nantis d’aujourd’hui, parce que vous aurez faim! Malheureux, vous qui riez aujourd’hui, parce que vous serez dans les pleurs et les larmes!
26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.	26 Malheureux êtes-vous si tout le monde parle bien de vous: c’est de cette manière que leurs pères ont traité les faux prophètes!”
27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,	27 “Oui, je vous le dis à vous qui m’écoutez: aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien à ceux qui vous détestent,
28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.	28 bénissez ceux qui vous maudissent, priez pour ceux qui vous calomnient.
29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.	29 Si on te frappe sur une joue, présente encore l’autre; si on te prend ton manteau, ne refuse pas ta tunique.
30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.	30 Donne à celui qui te demande, ne réclame pas ton bien à celui qui le prend!
31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.	31 “Traitez les autres comme vous voulez qu’ils vous traitent.
32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.	32 “Si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, faut-il vous en savoir gré? Les pécheurs eux-mêmes aiment ceux qui les aiment.
33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.	33 Si vous faites du bien à ceux qui vous font du bien, faut-il vous en savoir gré? Les pécheurs eux-mêmes en font autant.
34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.	34 Et si vous prêtez à ceux dont vous espérez recevoir, faut-il vous en savoir gré? Les pécheurs eux-mêmes prêtent à d’autres pécheurs pour recevoir les mêmes faveurs.
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.	35 “Donc aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien et prêtez sans rien attendre en retour. Votre récompense alors sera grande et vous serez les fils du Très-Haut, car il est bon avec les ingrats et les mauvais.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.	36 Soyez miséricordieux comme votre Père est miséricordieux.
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:	37 “Ne jugez pas et vous ne serez pas jugés. Ne condamnez pas et vous ne serez pas condamnés. Pardonnez, et l’on vous pardonnera.
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.	38 Donnez, et l’on vous donnera. On versera dans votre tablier une belle mesure, tassée, secouée, débordante de tous côtés; car on utilisera pour vous la même mesure que vous utilisez.”
39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?	39 Il leur donna cette comparaison: "Un aveugle peut-il guider un autre aveugle? Ne tomberont-ils pas tous les deux dans le trou?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.	40 Le disciple n’est pas au-dessus du maître, mais s’il se laisse former il sera comme son maître.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?	41 “Quoi! Tu vois la paille qui est dans l’œil de ton frère, et tu n’as pas remarqué la poutre qui est dans le tien?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.	42 Comment peux-tu dire à ton frère: ‘Laisse-moi t’enlever cette paille que tu as dans l’œil’, alors que tu ne vois pas la poutre qui est dans le tien? Hypocrite, enlève d’abord de ton œil la poutre, et ensuite tu verras clair pour enlever la paille qui est dans l’œil de ton frère.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.	43 “Il n’y a pas d’arbre sain qui donne de mauvais fruits, ni d’arbre malade qui donne de bons fruits.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.	44 D’ailleurs, chaque arbre se reconnaît à son fruit: on ne ramasse pas des figues sur des épines, on ne vendange pas de raisins sur un buisson.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.	45 L’homme bon dit ce qui est bon à partir du bon fonds qui est en lui, mais l’homme mauvais fait sortir le mal du mauvais fonds qui est en lui. La bouche parle de l’abondance du cœur.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?	46 “Pourquoi me donnez-vous ce titre: ‘Seigneur, Seigneur!’ et ne faites-vous pas ce que je dis?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:	47 “Celui qui vient à moi, qui écoute mes paroles et les met en pratique, je vais vous en donner une image:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.	48 il ressemble à un homme qui a bâti une maison; il a creusé profondément et a posé les fondations sur la pierre. Une crue est venue, le torrent s’est jeté sur cette maison, mais il n’a pas été capable de la renverser car elle était bien bâtie.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.	49 “En revanche, celui qui entend et ne met pas en pratique est semblable à un homme qui a construit la maison à même le sol, sans fondations. Le torrent s’est jeté sur elle et elle n’a pas été longue à s’écrouler: ce fut un vrai désastre.”
