1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.	1 Et il advint, comme il était quelque part à prier, quand il eut cessé, un de ses disciples lui dit:"Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a appris à ses disciples."
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.	2 Il leur dit: "Lorsque vous priez, dites: Père, que ton Nom soit sanctifié; que ton règne vienne;
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.	3 donne-nous chaque jour notre pain quotidien;
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.	4 et remets-nous nos péchés, car nous-mêmes remettons à quiconque nous doit; et ne nous soumets pas àla tentation."
5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;	5 Il leur dit encore: "Si l'un de vous, ayant un ami, s'en va le trouver au milieu de la nuit, pour lui dire:Mon ami, prête-moi trois pains,
6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?	6 parce qu'un de mes amis m'est arrivé de voyage et je n'ai rien à lui servir,
7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.	7 et que de l'intérieur l'autre réponde: Ne me cause pas de tracas; maintenant la porte est fermée, et mesenfants et moi sommes au lit; je ne puis me lever pour t'en donner;
8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.	8 je vous le dis, même s'il ne se lève pas pour les lui donner en qualité d'ami, il se lèvera du moins àcause de son impudence et lui donnera tout ce dont il a besoin.
9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.	9 "Et moi, je vous dis: demandez et l'on vous donnera; cherchez et vous trouverez; frappez et l'on vousouvrira.
10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.	10 Car quiconque demande reçoit; qui cherche trouve; et à qui frappe on ouvrira.
11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?	11 Quel est d'entre vous le père auquel son fils demandera un poisson, et qui, à la place du poisson, luiremettra un serpent?
12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?	12 Ou encore s'il demande un oeuf, lui remettra-t-il un scorpion?
13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?	13 Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, combien plus lePère du ciel donnera-t-il l'Esprit Saint à ceux qui l'en prient!"
14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.	14 Il expulsait un démon, qui était muet. Or il advint que, le démon étant sorti, le muet parla, et lesfoules furent dans l'admiration.
15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.	15 Mais certains d'entre eux dirent: "C'est par Béelzéboul, le prince des démons, qu'il expulse lesdémons."
16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.	16 D'autres, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, réclamaient de lui un signe venant du ciel.
17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.	17 Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: "Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté, etmaison sur maison s'écroule.
18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.	18 Si donc Satan s'est, lui aussi, divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume se maintiendra-t-il...puisque vous dites que c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons.
19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.	19 Mais si, moi, c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons, vos fils, par qui les expulsent-ils? Aussiseront-ils eux-mêmes vos juges.
20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.	20 Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que j'expulse les démons, c'est donc que le Royaume de Dieu estarrivé jusqu'à vous.
21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:	21 Lorsqu'un homme fort et bien armé garde son palais, ses biens sont en sûreté;
22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.	22 mais qu'un plus fort que lui survienne et le batte, il lui enlève l'armure en laquelle il se confiait et ildistribue ses dépouilles.
23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.	23 "Qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse pas avec moi dissipe.
24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.	24 "Lorsque l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il erre par des lieux arides en quête de repos. N'entrouvant pas, il dit: Je vais retourner dans ma demeure, d'où je suis sorti.
25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.	25 Etant venu, il la trouve balayée, bien en ordre.
26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.	26 Alors il s'en va prendre sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui; ils reviennent et y habitent. Et l'étatfinal de cet homme devient pire que le premier."
27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.	27 Or il advint, comme il parlait ainsi, qu'une femme éleva la voix du milieu de la foule et lui dit:"Heureuses les entrailles qui t'ont porté et les seins que tu as sucés!"
28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.	28 Mais il dit: "Heureux plutôt ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et l'observent!"
29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.	29 Comme les foules se pressaient en masse, il se mit à dire: "Cette génération est une générationmauvaise; elle demande un signe, et de signe, il ne lui sera donné que le signe de Jonas.
30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.	30 Car, tout comme Jonas devint un signe pour les Ninivites, de même le Fils de l'homme en sera unpour cette génération.
31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.	31 La reine du Midi se lèvera lors du Jugement avec les hommes de cette génération et elle lescondamnera, car elle vint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon, et il y a ici plus queSalomon!
32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.	32 Les hommes de Ninive se dresseront lors du Jugement avec cette génération et ils la condamneront,car ils se repentirent à la proclamation de Jonas, et il y a ici plus que Jonas!
33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light.	33 "Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la met en quelque endroit caché ou sous le boisseau,mais bien sur le lampadaire, pour que ceux qui pénètrent voient la clarté.
34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.	34 La lampe du corps, c'est ton oeil. Lorsque ton oeil est sain, ton corps tout entier aussi est lumineux;mais dès qu'il est malade, ton corps aussi est ténébreux.
35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.	35 Vois donc si la lumière qui est en toi n'est pas ténèbres!
36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.	36 Si donc ton corps tout entier est lumineux, sans aucune partie ténébreuse, il sera lumineux tout entier,comme lorsque la lampe t'illumine de son éclat."
37 And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat.	37 Tandis qu'il parlait, un Pharisien l'invite à déjeuner chez lui. Il entra et se mit à table.
38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner.	38 Ce que voyant, le Pharisien s'étonna de ce qu'il n'eût pas fait d'abord les ablutions avant le déjeuner.
39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.	39 Mais le Seigneur lui dit: "Vous voilà bien, vous, les Pharisiens! L'extérieur de la coupe et du plat,vous le purifiez, alors que votre intérieur à vous est plein de rapine et de méchanceté!
40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?	40 Insensés! Celui qui a fait l'extérieur n'a-t-il pas fait aussi l'intérieur?
41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.	41 Donnez plutôt en aumône ce que vous avez, et alors tout sera pur pour vous.
42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.	42 Mais malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, qui acquittez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toute plantepotagère, et qui délaissez la justice et l'amour de Dieu! Il fallait pratiquer ceci, sans omettre cela.
43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.	43 Malheur à vous, les Pharisiens, qui aimez le premier siège dans les synagogues et les salutations surles places publiques!
44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.	44 Malheur à vous, qui êtes comme les tombeaux que rien ne signale et sur lesquels on marche sans lesavoir!"
45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also.	45 Prenant alors la parole, un des légistes lui dit: "Maître, en parlant ainsi, tu nous outrages, nous aussi!"
46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.	46 Alors il dit: "A vous aussi, les légistes, malheur, parce que vous chargez les gens de fardeauximpossibles à porter et vous-mêmes ne touchez pas à ces fardeaux d'un seul de vos doigts!
47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.	47 "Malheur à vous, parce que vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, et ce sont vos pères qui les onttués!
48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres.	48 Vous êtes donc des témoins et vous approuvez les actes de vos pères; eux ont tué, et vous, vousbâtissez!
49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:	49 "Et voilà pourquoi la Sagesse de Dieu a dit: Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres; ils entueront et pourchasseront,
50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;	50 afin qu'il soit demandé compte à cette génération du sang de tous les prophètes qui a été répandudepuis la fondation du monde,
51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.	51 depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui périt entre l'autel et le Temple. Oui, je vous ledis, il en sera demandé compte à cette génération.
52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.	52 Malheur à vous, les légistes, parce que vous avez enlevé la clef de la science! Vous-mêmes n'êtes pasentrés, et ceux qui voulaient entrer, vous les en avez empêchés!
53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:	53 Quand il fut sorti de là, les scribes et les Pharisiens se mirent à lui en vouloir terriblement et à le faireparler sur une foule de choses,
54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.	54 lui tendant des pièges pour surprendre de sa bouche quelque parole.
