Matthew 12

1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.	1 En ce temps-là Jésus vint à passer, un jour de sabbat, à travers les moissons. Ses disciples eurentfaim et se mirent à arracher des épis et à les manger.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.	2 Ce que voyant, les Pharisiens lui dirent: "Voilà tes disciples qui font ce qu'il n'est pas permis defaire pendant le sabbat!"
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;	3 Mais il leur dit: "N'avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David lorsqu'il eut faim, lui et ses compagnons?
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?	4 Comment il entra dans la demeure de Dieu et comment ils mangèrent les pains d'oblation, qu'il nelui était pas permis de manger, ni à ses compagnons, mais aux prêtres seuls?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?	5 Ou n'avez-vous pas lu dans la Loi que, le jour du sabbat, les prêtres dans le Temple violent lesabbat sans être en faute?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.	6 Or, je vous le dis, il y a ici plus grand que le Temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.	7 Et si vous aviez compris ce que signifie: C'est la miséricorde que je veux, et non le sacrifice, vousn'auriez pas condamné des gens qui sont sans faute.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.	8 Car le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat."
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:	9 Parti de là, il vint dans leur synagogue.
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.	10 Et voici un homme qui avait une main sèche, et ils lui posèrent cette question: "Est-il permis deguérir, le jour du sabbat?" afin de l'accuser.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?	11 Mais il leur dit: "Quel sera d'entre vous l'homme qui aura une seule brebis, et si elle tombe dansun trou, le jour du sabbat, n'ira la prendre et la relever?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.	12 Or, combien un homme vaut plus qu'une brebis! Par conséquent il est permis de faire une bonneaction le jour du sabbat."
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.	13 Alors il dit à l'homme: "Etends ta main." Il l'étendit et elle fut remise en état, saine commel'autre.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.	14 Etant sortis, les Pharisiens tinrent conseil contre lui, en vue de le perdre.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;	15 L'ayant su, Jésus se retira de là. Beaucoup le suivirent et il les guérit tous
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:	16 et il leur enjoignit de ne pas le faire connaître,
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,	17 pour que s'accomplit l'oracle d'Isaïe le prophète:
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.	18 Voici mon serviteur que j'ai choisi, mon Bien-Aimé qui a toute ma faveur. Je placerai sur luimon Esprit et il annoncera le Droit aux nations.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.	19 Il ne fera point de querelles ni de cris et nul n'entendra sa voix sur les grands chemins.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.	20 Le roseau froissé, il ne le brisera pas, et la mèche fumante, il ne l'éteindra pas, jusqu'à ce qu'il aitmené le Droit au triomphe:
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.	21 en son nom les nations mettront leur espérance.
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.	22 Alors on lui présenta un démoniaque aveugle et muet; et il le guérit, si bien que le muet pouvaitparler et voir.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?	23 Frappées de stupeur, toutes les foules disaient: "Celui-là n'est-il pas le Fils de David?"
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.	24 Mais les Pharisiens, entendant cela, dirent: "Celui-là n'expulse les démons que par Béelzéboul,le prince des démons."
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:	25 Connaissant leurs sentiments, il leur dit: "Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même court à la ruine;et nulle ville, nulle maison, divisée contre elle-même, ne saurait se maintenir.
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?	26 Or, si Satan expulse Satan, il s'est divisé contre lui-même: dès lors, comment son royaume semaintiendra-t-il?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.	27 Et si moi, c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons, par qui vos adeptes les expulsent-ils?Aussi seront-ils eux-mêmes vos juges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.	28 Mais si c'est par l'Esprit de Dieu que j'expulse les démons, c'est donc que le Royaume de Dieuest arrivé jusqu'à vous.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.	29 "Ou encore, comment quelqu'un peut-il pénétrer dans la maison d'un homme fort et s'emparer deses affaires, s'il n'a d'abord ligoté cet homme fort? Et alors il pillera sa maison.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.	30 "Qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse pas avec moi dissipe.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.	31 Aussi je vous le dis, tout péché et blasphème sera remis aux hommes, mais le blasphème contrel'Esprit ne sera pas remis.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.	32 Et quiconque aura dit une parole contre le Fils de l'homme, cela lui sera remis; mais quiconqueaura parlé contre l'Esprit Saint, cela ne lui sera remis ni en ce monde ni dans l'autre.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.	33 "Prenez un arbre bon: son fruit sera bon; prenez un arbre gâté: son fruit sera gâté. Car c'est aufruit qu'on reconnaît l'arbre.
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.	34 Engeance de vipères, comment pourriez-vous tenir un bon langage, alors que vous êtesmauvais? Car c'est du trop-plein du coeur que la bouche parle.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.	35 L'homme bon, de son bon trésor tire de bonnes choses; et l'homme mauvais, de son mauvaistrésor en tire de mauvaises.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.	36 Or je vous le dis: de toute parole sans fondement que les hommes auront proférée, ils rendrontcompte au Jour du Jugement.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.	37 Car c'est d'après tes paroles que tu seras justifié et c'est d'après tes paroles que tu serascondamné."
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.	38 Alors quelques-uns des scribes et des Pharisiens prirent la parole et lui dirent: "Maître, nousdésirons que tu nous fasses voir un signe."
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:	39 Il leur répondit: "Génération mauvaise et adultère! elle réclame un signe, et de signe, il ne luisera donné que le signe du prophète Jonas.
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.	40 De même, en effet, que Jonas fut dans le ventre du monstre marin durant trois jours et troisnuits, de même le Fils de l'homme sera dans le sein de la terre durant trois jours et trois nuits.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.	41 Les hommes de Ninive se dresseront lors du Jugement avec cette génération et ils lacondamneront, car ils se repentirent à la proclamation de Jonas, et il y a ici plus que Jonas!
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.	42 La reine du Midi se lèvera lors du Jugement avec cette génération et elle la condamnera, car ellevint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon, et il y a ici plus que Salomon!
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.	43 Lorsque l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il erre par des lieux arides en quête de repos, et iln'en trouve pas.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.	44 Alors il dit: Je vais retourner dans ma demeure, d'où je suis sorti. Etant venu, il la trouve libre,balayée, bien en ordre.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.	45 Alors il s'en va prendre avec lui sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui; ils reviennent et yhabitent. Et l'état final de cet homme devient pire que le premier. Ainsi en sera-t-il également de cette générationmauvaise."
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.	46 Comme il parlait encore aux foules, voici que sa mère et ses frères se tenaient dehors, cherchantà lui parler.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?	48 A celui qui l'en informait Jésus répondit: "Qui est ma mère et qui sont mes frères?"
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!	49 Et tendant sa main vers ses disciples, il dit: "Voici ma mère et mes frères.
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.	50 Car quiconque fait la volonté de mon Père qui est aux cieux, celui-là m'est un frère et une soeuret une mère."
