1 Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;	1 Los rubenitas y los gaditas tenían una enorme cantidad de ganado. Al ver que las regiones de Iázer y de Galaad eran un terreno apto para el ganado,
2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,	2 fueron a ver a Moisés, al sacerdote Eleazar y a los jefes de la comunidad, y les dijeron:
3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,	3 «Atarot, Dibón, Iázer, Nimrá, Jesbón, Elalé, Sebán, Nebo y Beón
4 Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:	4 –la tierra que el Señor ha conquistado para la comunidad de Israel– es un terreno apto para el ganado, y nosotros, tus servidores, tenemos una gran cantidad.
5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.	5 Si estás dispuesto a hacernos un favor, continuaron diciendo, que se nos dé esa tierra en posesión. No nos hagas cruzar el Jordán».
6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?	6 Pero Moisés respondió a los gaditas y a los rubenitas: «¿Así que ustedes se quedarán aquí, mientras sus hermanos van a la guerra?
7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?	7 ¿Por qué desalientan a los israelitas para no crucen al país que el Señor les ha dado?
8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.	8 Esto es lo hicieron sus padres cuando yo los envié desde Cades Barné a reconocer el país.
9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.	9 Después que fueron al valle de Escol y vieron al país, ellos desalentaron a los israelitas, a fin de que no invadieran la tierra que el Señor les había dado.
10 And the LORD's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,	10 Por eso, aquel día el Señor se indignó y pronunció este juramento:
11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:	11 «Ninguno de los hombres mayores de veinte años que salieron de Egipto verá la tierra que prometí con el juramente a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, porque ellos me han sido infieles.
12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.	12 Ninguno, excepto Caleb, hijo de Iefuné, el quenizita, y Josué, hijo de Nun, que permanecieron fieles al Señor».
13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.	13 Así se indignó el Señor contra Israel y los hizo andar errantes por el desierto, hasta que desapareció toda aquella generación que había desagradado al Señor.
14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.	14 Y ahora ustedes, raza de pecadores, ocupan el lugar de sus padres para añadir todavía más al enojo del Señor contra Israel.
15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.	15 Si se apartan del Señor, él los dejará todavía en el desierto, y así ustedes causarán la ruina de todo este pueblo».
16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:	16 Entonces ellos se acercaron a Moisés, y le dijeron: «Quisiéramos hacer aquí corrales para nuestro ganado y poblados para nuestros hijos.
17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.	17 Nosotros, en cambio, tomaremos las armas para ir a la vanguardia de los israelitas, hasta que los hayamos introducido en el lugar de su destino. Mientras tanto, nuestros hijos permanecerán en ciudades fortificadas, al resguardo de los habitantes del país.
18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.	18 No volveremos a nuestros hogares hasta que cada israelita haya tomado posesión de su propiedad hereditaria.
19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.	19 Y no nos repartiremos con ellos la herencia al otro lado del Jordán, porque ya nos ha tocado una parte en el lado oriental».
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,	20 Moisés les respondió: «Si ustedes proceden así, si toman las armas para combatir a las órdenes del Señor,
21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,	21 y si cada guerrero cruza el Jordán, bajo las órdenes del Señor, hasta que expulse a sus enemigos delante de él,
22 And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.	22 y el país le quede sometido, ustedes podrán volver. Así quedarán libres de toda obligación respecto del Señor y respecto de Israel, y esa tierra será posesión de ustedes delante del Señor.
23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.	23 Pero si no proceden de esa manera, habrán pecado contra el Señor, y pueden estar seguros de que su pecado los condenará.
24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.	24 Construyan poblados para sus hijos y corrales para su ganado, pero cumplan los que han prometido».
25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.	25 Los gaditas y los rubenitas respondieron a Moisés: «Tus servidores, señor, harán lo que tú les mandas.
26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:	26 Nuestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros rebaños y todo nuestro ganado quedarán atrás, en las ciudades de Galaad,
27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.	27 mientras nosotros, todos los que estamos equipados para la guerra, cruzaremos para combatir a las órdenes del Señor, como él lo ha mandado».
28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:	28 Luego Moisés dio instrucciones al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué hijo de Nun, y a los jefes de familia de las tribus israelitas,
29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:	29 diciéndoles: «Si los gaditas y los rubenitas atraviesan con ustedes el Jordán para combatir como guerreros a las órdenes del Señor, hasta que el país les esté sometido, ustedes les darán como posesión la tierra de Galaad.
30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.	30 Pero si no lo hacen, recibirán una posesión en medio de ustedes, en el país de Canaán».
31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.	31 Los rubenitas y los gaditas respondieron: «Nosotros haremos todo lo que el Señor ha dicho respecto de tus servidores.
32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.	32 Pasaremos como guerreros a la tierra de Canaán, a las órdenes del Señor, pero conservaremos nuestra propiedad hereditaria al otro lado del Jordán».
33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.	33 Así Moisés asignó a los gaditas, a los rubenitas y a la mitad de la tribu de Manasés, hijo de José, el reino de Sijón, rey de los amorreos, y el reino de Og, rey de Basán: el territorio con sus diversas ciudades y el territorio de los poblados vecinos.
34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,	34 Los gaditas reedificaron las ciudades fortificadas de Dibón, Atarot, Aroer,
35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,	35 Atarot Sofán, Iázer, Iogboa,
36 And Beth-nimrah, and Beth-haran, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.	36 Bet Nimrá y Bet Jarán, e hicieron corrales para el ganado.
37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,	37 Los rubenitas reedificaron Jesbón, Elalé, Quiriataim,
38 And Nebo, and Baal-meon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.	38 Nebo, Baal Meón –algunos nombres fueron cambiados– y Sibmá: ellos pusieron sus propios nombres a las ciudades reedificadas.
39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.	39 Los descendientes de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, partieron para Galaad y lo conquistaron, despojando a los amorreos que se encontraban allí.
40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.	40 Moisés dio el territorio de Galaad a Maquir, hijo de Manasés, quien se estableció allí.
41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havoth-jair.	41 Iaír, hijo de Manasés, fue a conquistar sus poblados y los llamó Campamento de Iaír.
42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.	42 Nobá fue a conquistar Quenat y sus ciudades dependientes, y les puso su propio nombre: Nobá.
