1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.	1 - Visione di Abdia. Così dice il Signore a Edom: «Abbiamo udito il bando dal Signore, e il messaggio che ha mandato alle genti: - Levatevi, sorgiamo in battaglia contro di lui! -
2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.	2 Non vedi, che ti ho fatto piccolo tra le nazioni, e che sei spregevole molto?
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?	3 Ma la superbia del tuo cuore ti ha inorgoglito, perchè abiti tra i dirupi delle rocce, e in luoghi eminenti hai posto la tua sede; e dici in cuor tuo: - Chi mi farà calare in basso? -
4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.	4 Quando anche ti innalzassi come un'aquila e fra gli altri ponessi il tuo nido, ti tirerò giù di là, dice il Signore.
5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?	5 Se i ladri fossero penetrati da te, se i malandrini di notte, come l'avresti tollerato in silenzio? e che avrebbero fatto più che rubare quanto loro bastasse? Se i vendemmiatori fossero venuti non ti avrebbero almeno lasciato qualche racimolo?
6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!	6 Ah, come è stato perquisito il paese di Esaù! Come è stato frugato in tutti i suoi ripostigli!
7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.	7 Ti hanno sospinto fino al confine; tutti i tuoi confederati si sono burlati di te; quelli che stavano in pace con te ti hanno dato addosso; e coloro che mangiavano teco ti tesero delle insidie; non c'è in questo Edom alcun accorgimento!
8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?	8 E non farò io in quel giorno, dice il Signore, perdere il senno ai sapienti dell'Idumea? e la prudenza a quei della montagna di Esaù?
9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.	9 E i tuoi guerrieri del mezzogiorno saranno còlti dallo spavento; affinchè perisca ogni uomo dal monte di Esaù.
10 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.	10 Per la barbarie e per le crudeltà usate contro Giacobbe tuo fratello sarai coperto di confusione e distrutto per sempre.
11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.	11 Rammenta quel giorno in cui ti sei schierato contro di lui, quando gli stranieri facevano prigioniero il suo esercito e i barbari entravano per le sue porte e decidevano le sorti di Gerusalemme: contavi anche tu, come uno di loro!
12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.	12 Non dovevi assistere con disprezzo nel giorno del tuo fratello, nel giorno della sua deportazione; nè godere dei figli di Giuda, nel momento della loro sciagura; nè inveire clamorosamente nel tempo della tribolazione.
13 Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;	13 Non dovevi varcare le porte del mio popolo nell'istante della sua rovina, non pascere anche tu i tuoi sguardi del suo male, nel giorno della sua devastazione; nè stendere il tuo braccio contro il suo esercito nel giorno della sua sconfitta.
14 Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.	14 Perchè appostarti ai varchi per uccidere quelli che fuggivano, e sbarrare il passo ai rimanenti nel giorno dell'agonia?
15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.	15 Ma il giorno del Signore si approssima per tutte le nazioni; quello che hai fatto ad altri sarà fatto a te; Egli farà ricadere sul tuo capo la tua mercede.
16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.	16 Perchè, come beveste sul mio monte santo, così berranno tutte le nazioni per sempre; berranno e tracanneranno e saranno come se non fossero mai state.
17 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.	17 Ma sul monte Sion vi sarà un luogo di scampo e un luogo santo, e la casa di Giacobbe possederà coloro che la possedevano.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.	18 E la casa di Giacobbe sarà il fuoco, e la casa di Giuseppe la fiamma, e la casa di Esaù sarà la stoppia, e ne faran fuoco e fiamma e la consumeranno; e della casa di Esaù non resteranno più avanzi, perchè il Signore ha parlato.
19 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.	19 E quei del mezzodì s'impossesseranno del monte di Esaù; e quei della pianura occuperanno la terra dei Filistei e possederanno il territorio di Efraim e il territorio di Samaria; e quei di Beniamino saran padroni di Galaad.
20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.	20 E i deportati di codesto esercito dei figli d'Israele avran tutti i paesi dei Cananei fino a Sarepta; e quei di Gerusalemme, esiliati nel Bosforo, possederanno le città del mezzogiorno.
21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD's.	21 E i liberatori saliranno al monte Sion per giudicare il monte di Esaù; e il regno sarà del Signore».
