1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.	1 "Io Nabucodònosor ero tranquillo nella mia casa e prosperavo nel mio palazzo.
2 I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.	2 Ebbi un sogno che mi spaventò; i terrori sul mio giaciglio e le visioni del mio capo mi sconvolsero.
3 How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.	3 Per mio ordine uscì un decreto che convocava alla mia presenza tutti i sapienti di Babilonia, perché mi dessero la spiegazione del sogno.
4 I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:	4 Così si presentarono maghi, indovini, caldei e astrologi. Io raccontai loro il mio sogno, ma non mi seppero spiegare il suo significato.
5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.	5 Alla fine venne alla mia presenza Daniele, che aveva nome Baltazzàr, dal nome del mio dio e nel quale è lo spirito degli dèi santi, e gli raccontai il mio sogno:
6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.	6 "Baltazzàr, capo dei maghi! Io so che lo spirito degli dèi santi è in te e nessun mistero ti è impossibile! Ecco il sogno che ho fatto; tu dammene la spiegazione.
7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.	7 Le visioni della mia testa mentre ero sul mio giaciglio sono queste: Ecco un albero al centro della terra; la sua altezza era straordinaria.
8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,	8 L'albero crebbe, diventò grande, la sua cima toccava il cielo; si vedeva dall'estremità della terra.
9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.	9 Il suo fogliame era bello e i suoi frutti abbondanti; in esso era cibo per tutti e sotto trovavano ombra le bestie del campo; tra i suoi rami facevano il nido gli uccelli del cielo e da lui prendeva il cibo ogni vivente.
10 Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.	10 Mentre io contemplavo le visioni della mia testa sopra il mio giaciglio, ecco un Vigilante, un Santo scende dal cielo;
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:	11 egli grida con forza e dice: Tagliate l'albero e spezzate i suoi rami, scuotete le sue foglie e spargete i suoi frutti; gli animali fuggano di sotto a lui e gli uccelli di tra i suoi rami.
12 The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.	12 Tuttavia il ceppo delle sue radici lasciatelo nel terreno, legato con una catena di ferro e di rame nell'erba del campo; sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e con le bestie abbia la sua parte sull'erba della terra.
13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;	13 Si cambi il suo cuore di uomo e gli sia dato un cuore di animale: sette tempi passeranno per lui.
14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:	14 Da un decreto dei Vigilanti viene la decisione e dalla parola dei Santi la sentenza, perché i viventi sappiano che l'Altissimo domina sui regni umani; a chi vuole li dona e innalza su loro i più umili degli uomini.
15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:	15 Tale è il sogno che ho visto io, Nabucodònosor re. Tu, Baltazzàr, dammene l'interpretazione, poiché nessuno dei sapienti del mio regno fu in grado di spiegarmelo; tu invece lo puoi, perché lo spirito degli dèi santi è in te!".
16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.	16 Allora Daniele, soprannominato Baltazzàr, rimase come interdetto per un po' di tempo, poiché i suoi pensieri lo turbavano. Ma il re gli disse: "Baltazzàr, non ti spaventi l'interpretazione del sogno!". Baltazzàr rispose: "Signore mio, il sogno sia per coloro che ti odiano e la sua interpretazione per i tuoi nemici!
17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.	17 L'albero che tu hai visto, grande e robusto, la cui cima toccava il cielo, visibile per tutta la terra,
18 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.	18 il cui fogliame era bello e il frutto abbondante, da nutrire tutti, sotto il quale cercano ombra gli animali della terra e nei cui rami nidificano gli uccelli del cielo,
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.	19 sei tu, o re, che sei diventato grande e potente; la tua grandezza è cresciuta ed è arrivata fino al cielo e il tuo dominio fino ai confini della terra.
20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;	20 Quanto al Vigilante, al Santo che il re ha visto scendere dal cielo e dire: `Abbattete l'albero, distruggetelo, ma lasciate nel terreno il ceppo delle sue radici, stretto in legami di ferro e di bronzo, sull'erba dei campi; sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo e la sua sorte sia con gli animali della terra, finché siano passati per lui sette tempi':
21 Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:	21 questa è l'interpretazione, o re, e questo è il decreto dell'Altissimo riguardo al mio signore il re:
22 It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.	22 Ti scacceranno di mezzo agli uomini e con le bestie della terra sarà la tua dimora; ti si darà in pasto l'erba, come ai buoi, e dalla rugiada del cielo ti lasceranno bagnare; sette tempi passeranno per te, finché tu riconosca che l'Altissimo domina sopra i regni umani e a chi gli piace egli ne fa dono!
23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;	23 Quanto poi all'ordine di lasciare il tronco delle radici dell'albero, significa che il tuo regno risorgerà, appena tu avrai riconosciuto che i Cieli hanno ogni potere.
24 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:	24 Perciò, o re, accetta il mio consiglio: riscatta i tuoi peccati con la giustizia e le tue colpe con la misericordia verso i poveri, affinché la tua prosperità si prolunghi!".
25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.	25 Tutto si realizzò per il re Nabucodònosor.
26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.	26 Dodici mesi dopo, passeggiando sopra la terrazza del palazzo reale di Babilonia,
27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.	27 il re prese a dire: "Non è questa la grande Babilonia, che io ho costruito come residenza reale, con la forza della mia potenza e per la gloria del mio splendore?".
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.	28 La parola era ancora sulle labbra del re, quando una voce scese dal cielo: "La parola è per te, o re Nabucodònosor: la tua regalità si è allontanata da te.
29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.	29 Di mezzo agli uomini ti cacceranno e con gli animali del campo sarà la tua dimora; erba, come ai buoi, ti daranno in pasto e sette tempi passeranno per te, finché tu riconosca che l'Altissimo domina sui regni umani e a chi gli piace li concede in dono!".
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?	30 In quell'ora stessa la parola si compì su Nabucodònosor. Fu scacciato di mezzo agli uomini e mangiò l'erba come i buoi; il suo corpo fu bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo, finché i suoi capelli crebbero come alle aquile e le sue unghie come agli uccelli.
31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.	31 Ma alla fine dei giorni io, Nabucodònosor, alzai i miei occhi al cielo e il senno ritornò in me; benedissi l'Altissimo e lodai e glorificai Colui che vive in eterno: il suo potere è un potere eterno e il suo regno di generazione in generazione.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.	32 Tutti gli abitanti della terra sono reputati un nulla; secondo il suo beneplacito agisce con le schiere celesti; né c'è chi possa trattener la sua mano e possa dirgli: "Che fai?".
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.	33 All'istante stesso mi ritornò la ragione e, per la gloria del mio regno, la mia maestà e il mio splendore ritornarono a me; i miei consiglieri e i miei grandi mi reclamarono; fui riposto sul mio regno e la mia grandezza si accrebbe maggiormente.
34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:	34 Ora io Nabucodònosor lodo, esalto e glorifico il Re del cielo: tutte le sue opere sono verità, tutte le sue vie sono giustizia, e coloro che camminano nell'orgoglio egli li umilia".
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
