1 And these are the words of the book, which Baruch the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, the son of Sedecias, the son of Asadias, the son of Chelcias, wrote in Babylon,	1 Annunzio pesante del veduto dal profeta Abacuc.
2 In the fifth year, and in the seventh day of the month, what time as the Chaldeans took Jerusalem, and burnt it with fire.	2 Fino a quan­do, o Signore, io dovrò gridare, senza aver da te ascolto? Dovrò alzar le grida per la violenza sofferta, senza esser da te salva­to?
3 And Baruch did read the words of this book in the hearing of Jechonias the son of Joachim king of Juda, and in the ears of all the people that came to hear the book,	3 Perchè mi hai fatto vedere l'iniquità e l'affanno, m'hai fatto vedere la rapina e l'ingiustizia contro di me? E' fatto il giudizio, ma l'opposizione trionfa.
4 And in the hearing of the nobles, and of the king's sons, and in the hearing of the elders, and of all the people, from the lowest unto the highest, even of all them that dwelt at Babylon by the river Sud.	4 Per questo è lacerata la legge, e non arriva fino in fondo il giudizio, perchè l'empio trionfa contro il giusto, per questo ne esce un giu­dizio perverso.
5 Whereupon they wept, fasted, and prayed before the Lord.	5 Gettate gli occhi sopra le nazioni e osservate, re­ state maravigliati, stupefatti, per­ chè nei vòstri giorni è avvenuta una cosa che nessuno crederà quando gli sarà raccontata.
6 They made also a collection of money according to every man's power:	6 Infatti ecco che io susciterò i Caldei, gente crudele ed agile, che scorre tutta la larghezza della terra, per occupare tende non sue.
7 And they sent it to Jerusalem unto Joachim the high priest, the son of Chelcias, son of Salom, and to the priests, and to all the people which were found with him at Jerusalem,	7 E' orribile e terribile, e da se stessa farà uscire il giudizio e il suo peso.
8 At the same time when he received the vessels of the house of the Lord, that were carried out of the temple, to return them into the land of Juda, the tenth day of the month Sivan, namely, silver vessels, which Sedecias the son of Josias king of Jada had made,	8 I suoi cavalli son più leggeri dei leopardi, e più veloci dei lupi della sera; i suoi cavalieri si spar­geranno, i suoi cavalieri verranno da lontano, voleranno come aqui­la che precipita a divorare.
9 After that Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon had carried away Jechonias, and the princes, and the captives, and the mighty men, and the people of the land, from Jerusalem, and brought them unto Babylon.	9 Tut ti correranno alla preda, la loro faccia è come vento infocato, ammasseranno gli schiavi come l'arena.
10 And they said, Behold, we have sent you money to buy you burnt offerings, and sin offerings, and incense, and prepare ye manna, and offer upon the altar of the Lord our God;	10 Egli trionferà dei re, i tiranni saran da lui sbeffeggiati, egli se la riderà di tutte le for­tezze, alzerà le trincee e le prenderà.
11 And pray for the life of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and for the life of Balthasar his son, that their days may be upon earth as the days of heaven:	11 Allora si cangerà il (suo) spirito, passerà oltre e cadrà, questa è la sua forza, del suo dio.
12 And the Lord will give us strength, and lighten our eyes, and we shall live under the shadow of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and under the shadow of Balthasar his son, and we shall serve them many days, and find favour in their sight.	12 Non sei forse tu fin dal princi­pio, o Signore, Dio mio, mio Santo? Noi non morremo. O Si gnore, tu l'hai stabilito pel giudi­zio, l'hai reso forte per castigare.
13 Pray for us also unto the Lord our God, for we have sinned against the Lord our God; and unto this day the fury of the Lord and his wrath is not turned from us.	13 Gli occhi tuoi son troppo puri per vedere il male, e non potrai riguardare l'iniquità. Perchè vol­gi lo sguardo sopra chi fa il male, e taci quando l'empio divora uno che è più giusto di lui?
14 And ye shall read this book which we have sent unto you, to make confession in the house of the Lord, upon the feasts and solemn days.	14 Tu tratti gli uomini come i pesci del mare, come i rettili, che non hanno un principe.
15 And ye shall say, To the Lord our God belongeth righteousness, but unto us the confusion of faces, as it is come to pass this day, unto them of Juda, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 Egli tira tutto fuori coll'amo, attira nella sua sagena, ammassa nella sua rete, e ne godrà e n'esulterà.
16 And to our kings, and to our princes, and to our priests, and to our prophets, and to our fathers:	16 Per questo im­ molerà alla sua sagena, farà sa­crifizi alla sua rete, perchè per mezzo di esse è grassa la sua por zione, e il suo cibo è scelto.
17 For we have sinned before the Lord,	17 Per questo dunque spande la sua sa gena, e non cessa mai di far stra­ge dei popoli.
18 And disobeyed him, and have not hearkened unto the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments that he gave us openly:	18 e non siamo stati a lui soggetti, non abbiamo dato retta alla voce del Signore Dio nostro per camminare secondo i suoi precetti, che Egli ci diede.
19 Since the day that the Lord brought our forefathers out of the land of Egypt, unto this present day, we have been disobedient unto the Lord our God, and we have been negligent in not hearing his voice.	19 Dal giorno in cui il Signore trasse i nostri padri dalla terra d'Egitto, fino a questo giorno, noi abbiamo rifiutato di credere al Signore Dio nostro, e, senza riflessione, ci siamo allontanati, per non sentire la sua voce.
20 Wherefore the evils cleaved unto us, and the curse, which the Lord appointed by Moses his servant at the time that he brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt, to give us a land that floweth with milk and honey, like as it is to see this day.	20 Così, come oggi si vede, ci son venute addosso grandi sventure, e le maledizioni che il Signore intimò per mezzo di Mosè, suo servo, il quale trasse i nostri padri dalla terra d'Egitto, per darci una terra ove scorre latte e miele.
21 Nevertheless we have not hearkened unto the voice of the Lord our God, according unto all the words of the prophets, whom he sent unto us:	21 Noi non siamo stati a sentire la voce del Signore Dio nostro in tutte le parole dei proifeti che ci ha mandati,
22 But every man followed the imagination of his own wicked heart, to serve strange gods, and to do evil in the sight of the Lord our God.	22 e ciascuno di noi ha seguite le inclinazioni del malvagio suo cuore, è andato a servire gli dèi stranieri e a fare il male sotto gli occhi del Signore Dio nostro.
