Jeremiah 20

1 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.	1 E Phassur figliuolo di Emmer sacerdote, e creato prefetto della casa del Signore, udì Geremia, che profetizzava in tal guisa.
2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.	2 E Phassur percosse Geremia profeta, e lo messe a' ceppi alla porta superiore di Beniamin, nella casa del Signore.
3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib.	3 E il di appresso alla punta del giorno Phassur cavò Geremia da' ceppi, e disse a lui Geremia: Il Signore non ti ha posto il nome di Phassur; ma di spavento universale.
4 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.	4 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io ricolmerò di spavento te, e tutti gli amici tuoi: e periranno per la spada de' loro nemici, e ciò vedrai tu co' tuoi occhi; e tutto Giuda darò in balia del re di Babilonia, che gli trasporterà a Babilonia, e gli ucciderà di spada.
5 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.	5 E tutte le riccnezze di questa città, e tutte le sue fatiche, e tutto il prezioso, e tutti i tesori dei re di Giuda, darogli in potere de' loro nemici, i quali faran bottino, e prenderanno, e porteran tutto a Babilonia.
6 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies.	6 Ma tu, o Phassur, e tutti quelli, che abitano la tua casa, anelerete in schiavitù; e tu anderai a Babilonia, ed ivi morrai, e sarai sepolto tu, e tutti gli amici tuoi, a' quali profetizzasti menzogna.
7 O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me.	7 Tu mi seducesti, o Signore, ed io fui sedotto: tu fosti più forte di me, e ne potesti più: io son tutto dì oggetto di derisione, tutti si fan beffe di me.
8 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.	8 Imperocché è già tempo, che io parlo, e grido contro l'iniquità, e annunzio ad alta voce la distruzione: e la parola del Signore mi tira addosso tuttodì gli obbrobrj, e gli scherni.
9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.	9 E dissi: Non mi ricorderò più di lei, e non parlerò più nel nome di lui: e sentii nel mio cuore quasi un fuoco ardente rinserrato nelle mie ossa; e venni meno, non avendo forza per tollerarlo.
10 For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.	10 Imperocché ho udito le contumelie di molti, e i terrori all'intorno: Perseguitatelo, e perseguitiamolo; (ho udito) da tutti quelli, che viveano in pace con me, e mi stanno a' fianchi; (e dicono) se in qualche modo egli cadesse in errore, e noi lo soverchiamo, e facciam vendetta di lui.
11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.	11 Ma sta meco il Signore come un forte campione: quindi coloro, che mi perseguitano, caderanno, e saran privi di forze: saranno confusi altamente, perchè non hanno compreso quell'obrobrio sempiterno, che non sarà mai cancellato.
12 But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.	12 E tu, Signore degli eserciti, che metti il giusto alla prova, tu, che discerni gli affetti del cuore, fa ch'io ti vegga prender vendetta di costoro; perocché a te ho raccomandata la causa mia.
13 Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers.	13 Cantate inni al Signore, date laude al Signore: perocché egli ha liberato l'anima del povero di mano dei cattivi.
14 Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.	14 Maledetto il giorno, in cui io nacqui, il giorno, in cui mi partorì la mia madre, non sia benedetto.
15 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.	15 Maledetto l'uomo che diede la nuova al padre mio, dicendo: E nato a te un bambino maschio: quasi ciò fosse per riempierlo di allegrezza.
16 And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;	16 Sia quell'uomo come son le città, le quali il Signore distrusse, senza averne pietà: le grida ascolti al mattino, e le urla nel mezzo giorno:
17 Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.	17 Perchè Dio non mi fé morire nel sen materno, talmente che la madre mia fosse il mio sepolcro, e eterna fosse la sua gravidanza.
18 Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?	18 Perchè mai venni io fuora dell'alvo materno a veder affanno, e dolore, e affinchè si consumasser nella confusione i miei giorni?
