KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,1 The LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.2 "Speak to the whole Israelite community and tell them: Be holy, for I, the LORD your God, am holy.
Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.3 Revere your mother and father, and keep my sabbaths. I, the LORD, am your God.
Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.4 "Do not turn aside to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I, the LORD, am your God.
And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it at your own will.5 "When you sacrifice your peace offering to the LORD, if you wish it to be acceptable,
It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire.6 it must be eaten on the very day of your sacrifice or on the following day. Whatever is left over until the third day shall be burned up in the fire.
And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable; it shall not be accepted.7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, the sacrifice will be unacceptable as refuse;
Therefore every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity, because he hath profaned the hallowed thing of the LORD: and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.8 whoever eats of it then shall pay the penalty for having profaned what is sacred to the LORD. Such a one shall be cut off from his people.
And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.9 "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not be so thorough that you reap the field to its very edge, nor shall you glean the stray ears of grain.
And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.10 Likewise, you shall not pick your vineyard bare, nor gather up the grapes that have fallen. These things you shall leave for the poor and the alien. I, the LORD, am your God.
Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.11 "You shall not steal. You shall not lie or speak falsely to one another.
And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.12 You shall not swear falsely by my name, thus profaning the name of your God. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.13 "You shall not defraud or rob your neighbor. You shall not withhold overnight the wages of your day laborer.
Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.14 You shall not curse the deaf, or put a stumbling block in front of the blind, but you shall fear your God. I am the LORD.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.15 "You shall not act dishonestly in rendering judgment. Show neither partiality to the weak nor deference to the mighty, but judge your fellow men justly.
Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.16 You shall not go about spreading slander among your kinsmen; nor shall you stand by idly when your neighbor's life is at stake. I am the LORD.
Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.17 "You shall not bear hatred for your brother in your heart. Though you may have to reprove your fellow man, do not incur sin because of him.
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.18 Take no revenge and cherish no grudge against your fellow countrymen. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.
Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.19 "Keep my statutes: do not breed any of your domestic animals with others of a different species; do not sow a field of yours with two different kinds of seed; and do not put on a garment woven with two different kinds of thread.
And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.20 "If a man has carnal relations with a female slave who has already been living with another man but has not yet been redeemed or given her freedom, they shall be punished but not put to death, because she is not free.
And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering.21 The man, moreover, shall bring to the entrance of the meeting tent a ram as his guilt offering to the LORD.
And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.22 With this ram the priest shall make atonement before the LORD for the sin he has committed, and it will be forgiven him.
And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.23 "When you come into the land and plant any fruit tree there, first look upon its fruit as if it were uncircumcised. For three years, while its fruit remains uncircumcised, it may not be eaten.
But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise the LORD withal.24 In the fourth year, however, all of its fruit shall be sacred to the LORD as a thanksgiving feast to him.
And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may yield unto you the increase thereof: I am the LORD your God.25 Not until the fifth year may you eat its fruit. Thus it will continue its yield for you. I, the LORD, am your God.
Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times.26 "Do not eat meat with the blood still in it. Do not practice divination or soothsaying.
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.27 Do not clip your hair at the temples, nor trim the edges of your beard.
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.28 Do not lacerate your bodies for the dead, and do not tattoo yourselves. I am the LORD.
Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.29 "You shall not degrade your daughter by making a prostitute of her; else the land will become corrupt and full of lewdness.
Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.30 Keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.31 "Do not go to mediums or consult fortune-tellers, for you will be defiled by them. I, the LORD, am your God.
Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.32 "Stand up in the presence of the aged, and show respect for the old; thus shall you fear your God. I am the LORD.
And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.33 "When an alien resides with you in your land, do not molest him.
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.34 You shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you; have the same love for him as for yourself; for you too were once aliens in the land of Egypt. I, the LORD, am your God.
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.35 "Do not act dishonestly in using measures of length or weight or capacity.
Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.36 You shall have a true scale and true weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.37 Be careful, then, to observe all my statutes and decrees. I am the LORD."
