Isaiah 58

1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.	1 Crie de toutes tes forces, ne te retiens pas, que ta voix retentisse comme un cor! Montre à mon peuple ses fautes, dis ses péchés à la maison de Jacob.
2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.	2 Jour après jour ils me recherchent et veulent connaître mes chemins, comme une nation qui pratique la justice et n’oublie pas la loi de son Dieu. Ils me consultent sur leurs devoirs, ils veulent être proches de Dieu.
3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.	3 “À quoi nous sert de jeûner, disent-ils, si tu ne le vois pas? Pourquoi faire pénitence si tu n’en tiens pas compte?” C’est que le jour où vous jeûnez, vous traitez vos affaires et vous pressez tous vos ouvriers.
4 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.	4 Vous sortez du jeûne pour vous disputer et vous quereller; vous frappez du poing méchamment. Ce n’est pas en jeûnant de la sorte que votre voix se fera entendre là-haut.
5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?	5 Qu’est-ce qu’un jeûne auquel je prends plaisir, un jour où l’homme s’humilie? S’agit-il de courber la tête comme un jonc, de se coucher sur le sac et la cendre, est-ce cela que tu appelles un jeûne, un jour agréable à Yahvé?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?	6 Voici le jeûne qui m’est agréable: détacher les chaînes injustes, défaire les liens du joug, renvoyer libres les opprimés et briser tous les jougs.
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?	7 Tu partageras ton pain avec celui qui a faim, tu accueilleras chez toi les pauvres sans abri, tu vêtiras celui que tu vois nu au lieu de te dérober devant lui, car il est ta propre chair.
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.	8 Alors ta lumière se lèvera comme l’aurore et tes plaies se fermeront vite. Tes mérites iront devant toi, et la Gloire de Yahvé marchera sur tes pas.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;	9 Alors, si tu appelles, Yahvé répondra. Si tu cries, il dira: Me voici! Si tu élimines de chez toi le joug, le geste brutal, les paroles méchantes,
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:	10 si tu partages ton bien avec celui qui a faim, si tu fais que l’opprimé mange à sa faim, ta lumière alors se lèvera dans les ténèbres et tes nuits deviendront lumière de midi.
11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.	11 Yahvé te donnera en tout temps le repos; il te mettra à l’aise dans les endroits torrides. Il rafraîchira tes os, il fera de toi un jardin irrigué, dont les eaux jamais ne tarissent.
12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.	12 Tu rebâtiras les ruines anciennes, tu relèveras les fondations des âges passés. Tu resteras comme celui qui a réparé les brèches et fait, des ruines, des demeures.”
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:	13 Évite les marches quand c’est le sabbat, ne fais pas tes courses pendant mon saint jour. Traite le sabbat comme un jour délicieux, fais du jour saint de Yahvé un jour tout spécial. Honore-le, arrête tes activités, laisse là tes intérêts et les discussions d’affaires.
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.	14 Alors tu trouveras en Yahvé ta joie. Je te mènerai par les chemins des sommets et je te nourrirai sur les terres de Jacob, ton père: la bouche de Yahvé a parlé.
