1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.	1 Ed avvenne, che nell'anno quarto-decimo del re Ezechia, il re degli Assirj Sennacherib assalì tutte le città forti di Giuda, e le prese.
2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.	2 E il re degli Assirj mandò da Lachis a Gerusalemme al re Ezechia con forte squadra Rabsace, il quale pose gli alloggiamenti all'acquidotto della piscina superiore sulla strada del campo del Gualchieraio.
3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.	3 E andò a trovarlo Eliacim figliuolo di Elcia prefetto della casa, e Sobna dottor della legge, e Gioahe figliuolo di Asaph segretario.
4 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?	4 E disse loro Rabsace: Dite a Ezechia: Il re grande, il re degli Assirj dice così: Che fidanza è quella, per cui se' sì baldo?
5 I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?	5 Ovvero con qual prudenza, o con quai forze pensi a ribellarti? In chi ti confidi tu, che ti ritiri da me?
6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.	6 Tu ti appoggi all'Egitto, a quel bastone di canna rotto, cui un che si affidi, gli bucherà la mano, e gliela forerà: questo è quel, che farà Faraone re dell'Egitto a chi in lui si confida.
7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?	7 Che se tu mi risponderai: Noi confidiamo nel nostro Dio: e non è egli quell'istesso, di cui Ezechia distrusse i luoghi eccelsi, e gli altari, dicendo a Giuda, ed a Gerusalemme: Voi adorerete dinanzi a quest'altare?
8 Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.	8 Or adunque assoggettati al mio signore re degli Assirj, e ti darò due mila cavalli, e non potrai trovar tra' tuoi chi gli cavalchi.
9 How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?	9 E come potrai tu stare a petto di un giudice a una terra degl'infimi servi del signor mio? Che se tu confidi nell'Egitto, ne' cocchi, e ne' cavalieri.
10 And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.	10 Or son io forse senz'ordine del Signore venuto in questo paese per distruggerlo? il Signore mi ha detto: Va in quel paese, e distruggilo.
11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.	11 Ed Eliacim, e Sobna, e Gioahe dissero a Rabsace: Parla a' tuoi servi in Siriaco: perocché noi l'intendiamo: non ci parlare in lingua Giudea a sentita del popolo, che è sulle mura.
12 But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?	12 E Rabsace rispose loro: Mi ha egli forse mandato il signor mio a dir tutto questo al tuo signore, ed a te, e non piuttosto agli uomini, che stan sulle mura, perchè non abbiano a mangiare i propri escrementi, e bere la propria orina?
13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.	13 E alzossi Rabsace, e gridò ad alta voce in lingua Giudea, e disse: Udite le parole del gran re, del re degli Assirj.
14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.	14 Queste cose dice il re: Non vi seduca Ezechia; perocché ei non potrà liberarvi.
15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.	15 Né dia a voi Ezechia fidanza nel Signore, dicendo: Il Signore senz'altro ci libererà, non sarà data nelle mani del re Assiro questa città.
16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;	16 Non date retta ad Ezechia; imperocché il re degli Assirj vi dice: Accettate la pace con me, e venite fuori da me, e mangi ognuno i frutti della sua vigna, e ognuno i frutti del suo fico, e beva ognun di voi l'acqua di sua cisterna,
17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.	17 Fino a tanto ch'io venga a condurvi in una terra, che è come la vostra, terra di frumento, e di vino, terra di pane, e di viti.
18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?	18 Né vi smuova Ezechia con dire: Il Signore ci libererà. Hann'eglino gli iddìi delle genti liberata ciascuno la loro terra dalle mani del re degli Assirj?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?	19 Dov' è il dio di Emath, e di Arphad? Dov' è il dio di Sepharvaim? Hann'eglino liberata dalla mano mia la Samaria?
20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?	20 Qual è tra tutti gli dii di questi paesi quello, che abbia salvata dalle mani mie la sua terra, onde il Signore abbia a torre dalle mie mani Gerusalemme?
21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.	21 E quegli si tacquero, né gli risposer parola: imperocché aveva dato ordine così il re, dicendo: Non gli rispondete.
22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.	22 E tornò Eliacim figliuolo di Helcia, prefetto della casa, e Sobna dottor della legge, e Gioahe figliuolo di Asaph segretario al re Ezechia, stracciate lel oro vesti, e gli riferirono le parole di Rabsace.
