1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.	1 Yo me dije a mí mismo: «Ven, te haré experimentar el placer; goza del bienestar». Pero también esto es vanidad.
2 I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?	2 De la risa, dije: «No es más que locura». y de la alegría: «¿Para qué sirve?».
3 I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.	3 Decidí estimular mi carne con el vino, manteniendo la mente lúcida, y dejarme llevar de la insensatez, hasta ver qué les conviene hacer a los hombres bajo el cielo, en los contados días de su vida.
4 I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards:	4 Emprendí grandes obras: me construí mansiones y planté viñedos;
5 I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits:	5 me hice jardines y parques, y planté allí toda clase de árboles frutales;
6 I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees:	6 me fabriqué cisternas, para regar el bosque donde crecían los árboles;
7 I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:	7 compré esclavos y esclavas, y algunos me nacieron en casa; poseí también ganado en abundancia, más que todos mis predecesores en Jerusalén.
8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts.	8 Amontoné además plata y oro, y tesoros dignos de reyes y de provincias; me conseguí cantores y cantoras, y muchas mujeres hermosas, que son la delicia de los hombres.
9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me.	9 Llegué a ser tan grande, que superé a todos mis predecesores en Jerusalén. Sin embargo, la sabiduría permanecía siempre conmigo.
10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.	10 No negué a mis ojos nada de lo que pedían, ni privé a mi corazón de ningún placer; mi corazón se alegraba de todo mi trabajo, y este era el premio de todo mi esfuerzo.
11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.	11 Pero luego dirigí mi atención a todas las obras que habían hecho mis manos y a todo el esfuerzo que me había empeñado en realizar, y vi que todo es vanidad y correr tras el viento: ¡no se obtiene ningún provecho bajo el sol!
12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.	12 Entonces volví mis ojos hacia la sabiduría, hacia la locura y la insensatez. Porque ¿qué hará el sucesor del rey? Lo mismo que ya se había hecho antes.
13 Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.	13 Y vi que la sabiduría aventaja a la insensatez, como la luz a las tinieblas:
14 The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.	14 el sabio tiene los ojos bien puestos, mientras que el necio camina en tinieblas. Pero yo sé también que a los dos les espera la misma suerte.
15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.	15 Y me dije a mí mismo: si la suerte del necio será también la mía, ¿para qué, entonces, me hice más sabio? Y pensé que también esto es vanidad.
16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.	16 Porque no perdurará el recuerdo ni del sabio ni del necio: con el paso de los días, todo cae en el olvido. Así es: ¡el sabio muere igual que el necio!
17 Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.	17 Y llegué a detestar la vida, porque me da fastidio todo lo que se hace bajo el sol. Sí, todo es vanidad y correr tras el viento.
18 Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.	18 Y también detesté todo el esfuerzo que había realizado bajo el sol, y que tendré que dejar al que venga después de mí.
19 And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.	19 ¿Y quién sabe si él será sabio o necio? Pero será el dueño de lo que yo he conseguido con esfuerzo y sabiduría bajo el sol. También esto es vanidad.
20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.	20 Y llegué a desesperar de todo el esfuerzo que había realizado bajo el sol.
21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.	21 Porque un hombre que ha trabajado con sabiduría, con ciencia y eficacia, tiene que dejar su parte a otro que no hizo ningún esfuerzo. También esto es vanidad y una grave desgracia.
22 For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?	22 ¿Qué le reporta al hombre todo su esfuerzo y todo lo que busca afanosamente bajo el sol?
23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.	23 Porque todos sus días son penosos, y su ocupación, un sufrimiento; ni siquiera de noche descansa su corazón. También esto es vanidad.
24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.	24 Lo único bueno para el hombre es comer y beber, y pasarla bien en medio de su trabajo. Yo vi que también esto viene de la mano de Dios.
25 For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?	25 Porque ¿quién podría comer o gozar si no es gracias a él?
26 For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.	26 Porque al que es de su agrado él le da sabiduría, ciencia y alegría; al pecador, en cambio, lo ocupa en amontonar y atesorar para dárselo al que agrada a Dios. También esto es vanidad y correr tras el viento.
