Ezra 9

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Now when these things were done, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the people of the lands, doing according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.	1 Cela réglé, les chefs m'abordèrent en disant: "Le peuple d'Israël, les prêtres et les lévites n'ont pointrompu avec les peuples des pays plongés dans leurs abominations -- Cananéens, Hittites, Perizzites, Jébuséens,Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptiens et Amorites! --
2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.	2 mais, pour eux et pour leurs fils, ils ont pris femmes parmi leurs filles: la race sainte s'est mêlée auxpeuples des pays: chefs et magistrats, les premiers, ont participé à cette infidélité!"
3 And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.	3 A cette nouvelle, je déchirai mon vêtement et mon manteau, m'arrachai les cheveux et les poils debarbe et m'assis accablé.
4 Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.	4 Tous ceux qui tremblaient aux paroles du Dieu d'Israël se rassemblèrent autour de moi, devant cetteinfidélité des exilés. Quant à moi, je restai assis, accablé, jusqu'à l'oblation du soir.
5 And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God.	5 A l'oblation du soir, je sortis de ma prostration; vêtement et manteau déchirés, je tombai à genoux,étendis les mains vers Yahvé, mon Dieu,
6 And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.	6 et dis: "Mon Dieu, j'ai honte et je rougis de lever mon visage vers toi, mon Dieu. Car nos iniquités sesont multipliées jusqu'à dépasser nos têtes, et nos fautes se sont amoncelées jusqu'au ciel.
7 Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.	7 Depuis les jours de nos pères jusqu'à ce jour, nous sommes grandement coupables: pour nos iniquitésnous fûmes livrés, nous, nos rois et nos prêtres, aux mains des rois des pays, à l'épée, à la captivité, au pillage età la honte, comme c'est le cas aujourd'hui.
8 And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.	8 Mais à présent, pour un bref moment, Yahvé notre Dieu nous a fait une grâce en nous conservant desrescapés et en nous accordant de nous fixer dans son lieu saint: ainsi notre Dieu a-t-il illuminé nos yeux et nousa-t-il donné quelque répit en notre servitude.
9 For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.	9 Car nous sommes esclaves; mais dans notre servitude notre Dieu ne nous a point abandonnés: il nousa concilié la faveur des rois de Perse, nous accordant un répit pour que nous puissions relever le Temple de notreDieu et restaurer ses ruines, et nous procurant un abri sûr en Juda et à Jérusalem.
10 And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,	10 Mais maintenant, notre Dieu, que pourrons-nous dire, après cela? Car nous avons abandonné tescommandements,
11 Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.	11 que, par tes serviteurs les prophètes, tu avais prescrits en ces termes: Le pays où vous entrez pour enprendre possession est un pays souillé par la souillure des peuples des pays, par les abominations dont ils l'ontinfesté d'un bout à l'autre avec leurs impuretés.
12 Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.	12 Eh bien! ne donnez pas vos filles à leurs fils et ne prenez pas leurs filles pour vos fils; ne voussouciez jamais de leur paix ni de leur bonheur, afin que vous deveniez forts, que vous mangiez les meilleursfruits du pays et le laissiez en patrimoine à vos fils pour toujours.
13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;	13 Or après tout ce qui nous est advenu par nos actions mauvaises et notre grande faute -- bien que, ônotre Dieu, tu aies réduit le poids de nos iniquités et nous aies laissé les rescapés que voici! --
14 Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?	14 pourrions-nous encore violer tes commandements et nous allier à ces gens abominables? Net'irriterais-tu pas jusqu'à nous détruire, sans que subsiste un reste et des rescapés?
15 O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.	15 Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, tu es juste car nous sommes restés un groupe de rescapés, comme c'est le casaujourd'hui. Nous voici devant toi avec notre faute! Oui, il est impossible à cause de cela de subsister en taprésence!"
