1 After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.	1 Après toute cette œuvre dans laquelle Ézékias montra sa fidélité à la Loi, Sennakérib, roi d’Assyrie, envahit Juda. Il installa son camp face aux villes fortifiées et ordonna d’y faire des brèches.
2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,	2 Lorsque Ézékias vit que Sennakérib arrivait avec l’intention d’attaquer Jérusalem,
3 He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.	3 il décida avec ses officiers et ses conseillers de boucher les sources qui étaient à l’extérieur de la ville: ils lui apportèrent leur aide.
4 So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?	4 Une foule nombreuse se rassembla pour boucher toutes les sources ainsi que tous les ruisseaux qui arrosaient les jardins: “Pourquoi, disait-on, les rois d’Assyrie trouveraient-ils de l’eau en abondance à leur arrivée?”
5 Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.	5 Ézékias prit courageusement les choses en mains. Il releva tout le rempart qui était dégradé, il éleva des tours, une seconde muraille à l’extérieur, et il fortifia le Millo de la Cité de David. Il fit fabriquer beaucoup de lances et de boucliers.
6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,	6 Il établit des chefs de guerre à la tête du peuple et les rassembla autour de lui, sur la place devant la porte de la ville. Alors il leur parla franchement:
7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:	7 “Soyez forts et courageux! Ne craignez pas et ne tremblez pas devant le roi d’Assyrie et toute l’armée qu’il amène, car il y a plus avec nous qu’il n’y a avec lui.
8 With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.	8 Il a pour lui la puissance des hommes, mais nous avons, nous, Yahvé notre Dieu, qui est notre secours et qui combat nos combats!” Ces paroles d’Ézékias roi de Juda raffermirent le peuple.
9 After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,	9 C’est alors que Sennakérib, roi d’Assyrie, qui se trouvait personnellement à Lakish avec son armée, envoya de ses hommes à Jérusalem auprès d’Ézékias, roi de Juda, et de tous les Judéens qui habitaient à Jérusalem.
10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?	10 Ils leur transmirent ce message de Sennakérib, roi d’Assyrie: En qui mettez-vous votre confiance pour soutenir le siège dans Jérusalem?
11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?	11 Ne voyez-vous pas qu’Ézékias va vous faire mourir de faim et de soif? Il vous trompe quand il vous dit: Yahvé notre Dieu nous délivrera de la main du roi d’Assyrie.
12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?	12 C’est bien Ézékias qui a fait disparaître les autels et les Hauts-Lieux de Yahvé et qui a dit aux gens de Juda et de Jérusalem: Vous n’aurez que cet autel pour vous prosterner devant lui et y faire fumer votre encens!
13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?	13 Ne savez-vous pas ce que nous avons fait, moi et mes pères, à tous les peuples des nations? Les dieux des nations ont-ils été capables de délivrer leurs pays de ma main?
14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?	14 Parmi tous les dieux de ces nations que mes pères ont vouées à l’anathème, y en a-t-il eu un seul pour délivrer son peuple de ma main? Et vous croyez que votre dieu pourra vous délivrer de ma main?
15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?	15 Maintenant donc, qu’Ézékias arrête de vous tromper! Qu’il cesse de vous aveugler! Ne le croyez pas: aucun dieu dans aucun pays ou royaume n’a pu délivrer son peuple de ma main, ni de la main de mes pères; moins encore votre dieu pourra-t-il vous délivrer de ma main!”
16 And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.	16 Les envoyés de Sennakérib parlaient encore contre Yahvé Dieu et contre son serviteur Ézékias,
17 He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.	17 lorsque Sennakérib lui-même, écrivit une lettre pour insulter Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, et pour parler contre lui: “De même que les dieux des nations, écrivait-il, n’ont pu délivrer leur peuple de ma main, de même le dieu d’Ézékias ne délivrera pas son peuple de ma main.”
18 Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.	18 Les envoyés crièrent d’une voix forte, en judéen, aux habitants de Jérusalem qui étaient sur le rempart, pour les effrayer, les terroriser et pouvoir ainsi prendre la ville.
19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.	19 Mais ils parlaient du Dieu de Jérusalem comme d’un dieu quelconque des peuples de la terre, qui ne sont en fait que l’œuvre des hommes.
20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.	20 Durant ce temps le roi Ézékias et le prophète Isaïe, fils d’Amos, étaient en prière et criaient vers le Ciel.
21 And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.	21 Alors Yahvé envoya un ange qui extermina tous les brillants guerriers, les princes et les chefs dans le camp du roi d’Assyrie. Celui-ci, couvert de honte, retourna dans son pays, et comme il entrait dans la Maison de son dieu, ses fils, ceux-là mêmes à qui il avait donné le jour, l’assassinèrent à coups d’épée.
22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.	22 Yahvé sauva ainsi Ézékias et les habitants de Jérusalem, de la main de Sennakérib roi d’Assyrie, et de la main de tous leurs ennemis; ils eurent la paix sur toutes leurs frontières.
23 And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.	23 Beaucoup de gens apportèrent à Jérusalem des offrandes à Yahvé et des cadeaux à Ézékias, roi de Juda: son prestige en sortit très renforcé aux yeux de tous les peuples.
24 In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.	24 En ces jours-là, Ézékias tomba malade et fut près de mourir. Il adressa une prière à Yahvé qui lui dit une parole et lui fit voir un prodige.
25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.	25 Mais Ézékias ne répondit pas aux bienfaits qu’il avait reçus, il était devenu orgueilleux, aussi la colère de Dieu se fit-elle menaçante sur lui, sur Juda et sur Jérusalem.
26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.	26 Ézékias pourtant s’humilia après ce péché d’orgueil, et les habitants de Jérusalem firent de même; c’est pourquoi la colère de Yahvé ne s’abattit pas sur eux durant le temps d’Ézékias.
27 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;	27 Ézékias eut plus que son compte de richesses de gloire, il accumula des trésors d’argent, d’or, de pierres précieuses, de parfums, de boucliers et de toutes sortes d’objets précieux.
28 Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.	28 Il fit des magasins pour entreposer son blé, son vin et son huile fraîche, des étables pour toute espèce de bétail et des parcs pour ses troupeaux.
29 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.	29 Il construisit des villes, il acquit de nombreux troupeaux de gros et de petit bétail, car Dieu lui avait donné une très grande fortune.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.	30 C’est Ézékias qui ferma l’entrée supérieure de la source de Guihon et en dirigea les eaux vers le bas de la Cité de David, à l’ouest. Ézékias mena à bien tous ses travaux.
31 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.	31 Lorsque les envoyés des princes de Babylone arrivèrent près de lui pour faire une enquête sur le prodige qui avait eu lieu dans le pays, Dieu l’abandonna un moment pour le mettre à l’épreuve et pour voir ce qu’il avait dans le cœur.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.	32 Le reste des actes d’Ézékias, les témoignages de sa fidélité, sont écrits dans les visions du prophète Isaïe fils d’Amos et dans le Livre des Rois de Juda et d’Israël.
33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.	33 Ézékias se coucha avec ses pères et on l’enterra dans la montée des tombes des fils de David. À sa mort les Judéens et les habitants de Jérusalem lui rendirent hommage. Son fils Manassé régna à sa place.
