Genesis 47

1 Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.	1 Donc Joseph alla avertir Pharaon: "Mon père et mes frères, dit-il, sont arrivés du pays de Canaanavec leur petit et leur gros bétail et tout ce qui leur appartient; les voici dans la terre de Goshèn."
2 And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.	2 Il avait pris cinq de ses frères, qu'il présenta à Pharaon.
3 And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.	3 Celui-ci demanda à ses frères: "Quel est votre métier", et ils répondirent: "Tes serviteurs sont desbergers, nous-mêmes comme déjà nos pères."
4 They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.	4 Ils dirent aussi à Pharaon: "Nous sommes venus séjourner dans le pays, car il n'y a plus de pâturepour les troupeaux de tes serviteurs: la famine, en effet, accable le pays de Canaan. Permets maintenant que tesserviteurs demeurent dans la terre de Goshèn."
5 And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:	5 Alors Pharaon dit à Joseph: Jacob et ses fils vinrent en Egypte auprès de Joseph. Pharaon, roid'Egypte, l'apprit et il dit à Joseph: "Ton père et tes frères sont arrivés près de toi. Le pays d'Egypte est à tadisposition: établis ton père et tes frères dans la meilleure région."
6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.	6 "Qu'ils habitent la terre de Goshèn et, si tu sais qu'il y a parmi eux des hommes capables, place-lescomme régisseurs de mes propres troupeaux."
7 And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.	7 Alors Joseph introduisit son père Jacob et le présenta à Pharaon, et Jacob salua Pharaon.
8 And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?	8 Pharaon demanda à Jacob: "Combien comptes-tu d'années de vie?"
9 And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.	9 Et Jacob répondit à Pharaon: "Les années de mon séjour sur terre ont été de 13 0 ans, mes annéesont été brèves et malheureuses et n'ont pas atteint l'âge de mes pères, les années de leur séjour."
10 And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.	10 Jacob salua Pharaon et prit congé de lui.
11 And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.	11 Joseph établit son père et ses frères et il leur donna une propriété au pays d'Egypte, dans lameilleure région, la terre de Ramsès, comme l'avait ordonné Pharaon.
12 And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.	12 Joseph procura du pain à son père, à ses frères et à toute la famille de son père, selon le nombredes personnes à leur charge.
13 And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.	13 Il n'y avait pas de pain sur toute la terre, car la famine était devenue très dure et le pays d'Egypteet le pays de Canaan languissaient de faim.
14 And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.	14 Joseph ramassa tout l'argent qui se trouvait au pays d'Egypte et au pays de Canaan en échange dugrain qu'on achetait et il livra cet argent au palais de Pharaon.
15 And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.	15 Lorsque fut épuisé l'argent du pays d'Egypte et du pays de Canaan, tous les Egyptiens vinrent àJoseph en disant:"Donne-nous du pain! Pourquoi devrions-nous mourir sous tesyeux? Car il n'y a plus d'argent."
16 And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.	16 Alors Joseph leur dit: "Livrez vos troupeaux et je vous donnerai du pain en échange de vostroupeaux, s'il n'y a plus d'argent."
17 And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.	17 Ils amenèrent leurs troupeaux à Joseph et celui-ci leur donna du pain pour prix des chevaux, dupetit et du gros bétail et des ânes; il les nourrit de pain, cette année-là, en échange de leurs troupeaux.
18 When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:	18 Lorsque fut écoulée cette année-là, ils revinrent vers lui l'année suivante et lui dirent: "Nous nepouvons le cacher à Monseigneur: vraiment l'argent est épuisé et les bestiaux sont déjà à Monseigneur, il ne resteà la disposition de Monseigneur que notre corps et notre terroir.
19 Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.	19 Pourquoi devrions-nous mourir sous tes yeux, nous et notre terroir? Acquiers donc nos personneset notre terroir pour du pain, et nous serons, avec notre terroir, les serfs de Pharaon. Mais donne-nous de quoisemer pour que nous restions en vie et ne mourions pas et que notre terroir ne soit pas désolé."
20 And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh's.	20 Ainsi Joseph acquit pour Pharaon tout le terroir d'Egypte, car les Egyptiens vendirent chacun sonchamp, tant les pressait la famine, et le pays passa aux mains de Pharaon.
21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.	21 Quant aux gens, il les réduisit en servage, d'un bout à l'autre du territoire égyptien.
22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.	22 Il n'y eut que le terroir des prêtres qu'il n'acquit pas, car les prêtres recevaient une rente dePharaon et vivaient de la rente qu'ils recevaient de Pharaon. Aussi n'eurent-ils pas à vendre leur terroir.
23 Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.	23 Puis Joseph dit au peuple: "Donc, je vous ai maintenant acquis pour Pharaon, avec votre terroir.Voici pour vous de la semence, pour ensemencer votre terroir.
24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.	24 Mais, sur la récolte, vous devrez donner un cinquième à Pharaon, et les quatre autres parts serontà vous, pour la semence du champ, pour votre nourriture et celle de votre famille, pour la nourriture despersonnes à votre charge."
25 And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.	25 Ils répondirent: "Tu nous as sauvé la vie! Puissions-nous seulement trouver grâce aux yeux deMonseigneur, et nous serons les serfs de Pharaon."
26 And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.	26 De cela, Joseph fit une règle, qui vaut encore aujourd'hui pour le terroir d'Egypte: on verse lecinquième à Pharaon. Seul le terroir des prêtres ne fut pas à Pharaon.
27 And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.	27 Ainsi Israël s'établit au pays d'Egypte dans la terre de Goshèn. Ils y acquirent des propriétés,furent féconds et devinrent très nombreux.
28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.	28 Jacob vécut dix-sept ans au pays d'Egypte et la durée de la vie de Jacob fut de 14 7 ans.
29 And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:	29 Lorsqu'approcha pour Israël le temps de sa mort, il appela son fils Joseph et lui dit: "Si j'ai tonaffection, mets ta main sous ma cuisse, montre-moi bienveillance et bonté: ne m'enterre pas en Egypte!
30 But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.	30 Quand je serai couché avec mes pères, tu m'emporteras d'Egypte et tu m'enterreras dans leurtombeau." Il répondit: "Je ferai comme tu as dit."
31 And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.	31 Mais son père insista: "Prête-moi serment", et il lui prêta serment, pendant qu'Israël se prosternaitsur le chevet de son lit.
