1 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.	1 Rachele vide che non poteva partorire figlioli a Giacobbe. Allora Rachele diventò gelosa della sorella e disse a Giacobbe: "Dammi dei figli, se no muoio!".
2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?	2 Giacobbe si irritò contro Rachele e disse: "Son forse io al posto di Dio, il quale ti ha negato il frutto del ventre?".
3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees that I may also have children by her.	3 Allora essa disse: "Ecco la mia serva Bila; accostati a lei, così ch'essa partorisca sulle mie ginocchia e anch'io abbia una figliolanza per mezzo di essa".
4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.	4 Così gli diede come moglie la propria schiava Bila e Giacobbe si accostò a lei.
5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.	5 Bila concepì e partorì a Giacobbe un figlio.
6 And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.	6 E Rachele disse: "Dio ha giudicato in mio favore e ha pure ascoltato la mia voce, dandomi un figlio". Per questo lo chiamò Dan.
7 And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.	7 Poi Bila, la schiava di Rachele, concepì ancora e partorì a Giacobbe un secondo figlio.
8 And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.	8 E Rachele disse: "Ho combattuto contro mia sorella le lotte di Dio e ho pure vinto!". Onde lo chiamò Nèftali.
9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.	9 Allora Lia, vedendo che aveva cessato di partorire, prese Zilpa, la propria schiava, e la diede in moglie a Giacobbe.
10 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.	10 Giacobbe si accostò a lei ed essa concepì. Zilpa, la schiava di Lia, partorì a Giacobbe un figlio.
11 And Leah said, A troop cometh: and she called his name Gad.	11 E Lia disse: "Per fortuna!". Onde lo chiamò Gad.
12 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.	12 Poi Zilpa, la schiava di Lia, partorì un secondo figlio a Giacobbe.
13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.	13 Lia disse: "Per mia felicità! Perché le figlie mi han proclamata felice!". Onde lo chiamò Aser.
14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.	14 Al tempo della mietitura del grano, Ruben uscì e trovò nella campagna delle mandragole che portò a Lia, sua madre. Allora Rachele disse a Lia: "Dammi, di grazia, un po' delle mandragole del figlio tuo".
15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband? and wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son's mandrakes.	15 Ma Lia rispose: "E' forse poco che tu porti via mio marito, che vuoi portar via anche le mandragole di mio figlio?". Rispose Rachele: "Ebbene, si corichi pure, questa notte, con te, in compenso delle mandragole del figlio tuo".
16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.	16 Alla sera Giacobbe arrivò dalla campagna e Lia gli uscì incontro e gli disse: "E' da me che devi venire, perché io ho pagato il diritto di averti con le mandragole di mio figlio". Così egli, quella notte, si coricò con essa.
17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.	17 Allora il Signore esaudì Lia, la quale concepì e partorì a Giacobbe un quinto figlio.
18 And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.	18 E Lia disse: "Dio mi ha dato la mia mercede, per aver dato la schiava mia a mio marito". Perciò lo chiamò Issacar.
19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.	19 Poi Lia concepì ancora e partorì un sesto figlio a Giacobbe,
20 And Leah said, God hath endued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.	20 e disse: "Dio mi ha dotato di una buona dote; questa volta mio marito abiterà con me, perché gli ho partorito sei figli". Perciò lo chiamò Zabulon.
21 And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.	21 Partorì anche una figlia e la chiamò Dina.
22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.	22 Poi Dio si ricordò anche di Rachele, la esaudì e la rese feconda.
23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:	23 Essa concepì e partorì un figlio e disse: "Dio ha tolto il mio disonore".
24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.	24 E lo chiamò Giuseppe, dicendo: "Il Signore mi aggiunga un altro figlio!".
25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.	25 Dopo che Rachele ebbe partorito Giuseppe, Giacobbe disse a Làbano: "Lasciami partire, sicché me ne vada a casa mia, nel mio paese.
26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee.	26 Dammi le mie mogli, per le quali ti ho servito, e i miei bambini, in modo che io possa partire; perché tu stesso sai il servizio che ti ho prestato".
27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.	27 Gli rispose Làbano: "Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi... Io ho prosperato e il Signore mi ha benedetto per causa tua".
28 And he said, Appoint me thy wages, and I will give it.	28 Poi aggiunse: "Fissami il tuo salario e te lo darò".
29 And he said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle was with me.	29 Gli rispose: "Tu stesso sai come ti ho servito e come sono diventati i tuoi beni per opera mia.
30 For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?	30 Perché il poco che avevi, prima della mia venuta, è cresciuto in quantità strabocchevole e il Signore ti ha benedetto alla mia venuta. Ma ora, quando lavorerò anch'io per la mia casa?".
31 And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock:	31 Rispose: "Che cosa ti devo dare?". Giacobbe rispose: "Non mi devi dare nulla; se tu farai per me quanto ti dico, ritornerò ancora a pascolare il tuo gregge.
32 I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.	32 Io passerò quest'oggi in mezzo a tutto il tuo gregge; togli da esso ogni animale punteggiato e pezzato e ogni animale nero tra le pecore e ogni capo punteggiato e macchiato tra le capre: sarà il mio salario.
33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.	33 E d'ora innanzi, la mia onestà risponderà dinanzi a te per me; quando tu verrai a verificare il mio salario, ogni capo che non sarà punteggiato o pezzato tra le capre e di colore nero tra le pecore, se si troverà presso di me, sarà come rubato".
34 And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.	34 Làbano disse: "Bene, sia come tu hai detto!".
35 And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.	35 In quel giorno tolse fuori i becchi striati e pezzati e tutte le capre punteggiate e pezzate, ogni capo in cui v'era del bianco e ogni capo nero tra le pecore. Li affidò ai suoi figli
36 And he set three days' journey betwixt himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.	36 e interpose la distanza di tre giorni di cammino tra sé e Giacobbe, mentre Giacobbe pascolava il rimanente gregge bianco.
37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree; and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.	37 Ma Giacobbe prese delle verghe fresche di pioppo, di mandorlo e di platano e vi fece delle scortecciature bianche, scoprendo il bianco delle verghe.
38 And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.	38 Poi mise le verghe che aveva scortecciate nei trogoli e negli abbeveratoi dell'acqua, dove veniva a bere il gregge, proprio in vista delle bestie, le quali si accoppiavano quando venivano a bere.
39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.	39 Così le bestie si accoppiarono davanti a quelle verghe e figliarono animali striati, punteggiati e pezzati.
40 And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.	40 Quanto alle pecore, Giacobbe le separò e pose il gruppo delle bestie davanti agli animali striati e a tutti quelli di colore nero che vi erano nel gregge di Làbano. E i branchi che si era così costituito per conto suo, non li mise insieme al gregge di Làbano.
41 And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.	41 Ogni qualvolta entravano in calore le bestie robuste, Giacobbe metteva le verghe nei trogoli in vista delle bestie, per farle concepire vicino alle verghe.
42 But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.	42 Invece, per le bestie più deboli, non le metteva. Così i capi di bestiame deboli diventavano di Làbano e quelli robusti di Giacobbe.
43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.	43 Così egli si arricchì in modo straordinario e possedette un gregge numeroso, schiave e schiavi, cammelli e asini.
