1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;	1 - I due angeli giunsero a Sodoma sulla sera, e Lot era seduto sulla porta della città. Egli, avendoli visti, s'alzò, andò loro incontro, s'inchinò sino a terra,
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.	2 e disse: «Vi prego, signori, venite alla casa del vostro servo, ed ivi fermatevi: lavatevi i piedi, e domattina riprenderete il vostro cammino». Risposero: «No davvero, ma staremo sulla piazza».
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.	3 Egli però li obbligò ad entrare in città, prendendo stanza da lui; ed entrati in sua casa, fece loro una cena, cosse dei pani azzimi, ed essi mangiarono.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:	4 Prima che andassero a dormire, gli abitanti della città, circondaron la casa, tutto il popolo, dai ragazzi sino ai vecchi.
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.	5 E chiamarono Lot, per dirgli: «Dove sono quelli uomini che son entrati da te a notte? Conducili fuori che li vogliamo noi».
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,	6 Uscito Lot [per parlare] a loro, si chiuse alle spalle la porta, e disse:
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.	7 «Vi supplico, fratelli miei, non vogliate commettere un tal delitto.
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.	8 Ho due figliuole che non hanno ancora conosciuto un uomo; ve le darò, e ne farete quel che vorrete, purchè niente di male facciate a questi uomini che si son posti all'ombra del mio tetto».
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.	9 Ma quelli dicevano: «Esci di costì». Ed ancora: «Tu sei arrivato fra noi come forestiero; forse per farci da giudice? Faremo dunque più male a te che a quelli». E spingevano Lot con gran forza, ed eran già quasi per sfondare la porta.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.	10 Allora gli angeli stesero le mani, trassero a sè Lot, richiusero la porta,
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.	11 e colpirono di cecità quelli che erano fuori dal più piccolo al più grande, così che non potevano più trovare la porta.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:	12 Poi dissero a Lot: «Hai qui qualcuno de' tuoi, o genero o figli o figlie? Tutti i tuoi, conducili via dalla città;
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.	13 perchè noi la distruggeremo, troppo essendosi alzati innanzi a Dio il grido [delle loro iniquità], e ci ha mandati a sterminarli».
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.	14 Uscito dunque Lot, si rivolse ai suoi generi, quelli che dovevano sposare le sue figlie, e disse: «Levatevi, uscite da questo luogo, chè il Signore distruggerà la città». Ma parve loro ch'egli dicesse per scherzo.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.	15 Sul fare del giorno, gli angeli gli fecero fretta, e dissero: «Alzati, e prendi la moglie e le due figliuole che hai, acciò tu pure non perisca per le scelleratezze della città».
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.	16 Esitando egli, lo presero per mano, lui e la moglie e le due figlie, perchè il Signore lo voleva salvo.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.	17 Lo condussero via, e lo misero fuori della città, ed ivi gli parlarono ancora, dicendo: «Salvati la vita; non guardare indietro, e non rimanere in tutta la circostante pianura; ma riparati alla montagna, per non perire tu pure».
18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:	18 E disse loro Lot: «Di grazia, Signore,
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:	19 giacchè il tuo servo ha trovato grazia innanzi a te, ed hai mostrato quanto è grande la tua misericordia usandola meco per salvarmi la vita, io non posso rifugiarmi sul monte; m'incoglierà la rovina e morrò.
20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.	20 V'è qui vicina quella città, nella quale posso ripararmi; è piccola, e vi sarò salvo; non è proprio piccolina? Così resterò in vita».
21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.	21 E gli disse [il Signore]: «Ho esaudito le tue preghiere anche in questo, che non subisserò la città in pro della quale hai parlato.
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.	22 Affrettati, e salvati lì, perchè io non potrò far niente, sinchè tu non vi sia entrato». Perciò a quella città fu dato il nome di "Segor".
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.	23 Il sole era già levato, quando Lot entrò in Segor.
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;	24 Allora il Signore fece piovere dal cielo, dal Signore, su Sodoma e Gomorra, zolfo e fuoco;
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.	25 e subissò quelle città, tutta la circostante pianura, tutti gli abitanti delle città, e tutta la vegetazione della terra.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.	26 E la moglie di Lot, essendosi voltata indietro, fu cambiata in una statua di sale.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:	27 Abramo, alzatosi al mattino nel luogo ov'era stato prima col Signore,
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.	28 guardò Sodoma, Gomorra, e tutta la terra di quella regione, e vide le faville che ne salivano come il fumo d'una fornace.
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.	29 Così, mentre Dio distruggeva la città di quel luogo, ricordatosi d'Abramo, liberò Lot dalla rovina di quelle città dove aveva abitato.
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.	30 Uscì poi Lot da Segor, ed abitò sulla montagna, e le due sue figliuole con lui, perchè ebbe paura a rimanere in Segor; riparò in una caverna, egli e le sue due figlie.
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:	31 E disse la maggiore alla minore: «Nostro padre è vecchio, e non c'è rimasto in questa regione un uomo che possa esser nostro, come si costuma in tutto il mondo.
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.	32 Vieni, ubriachiamolo col vino, e stiamo con lui, acciò possiamo assicurare al padre nostro una figliolanza».
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.	33 Dettero dunque in quella sera al padre loro a bere del vino. Ed entrò la maggiore, e stette col padre; ed egli non se n'accòrse, nè quando la figlia si pose giù nè quando si alzò.
34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.	34 Il giorno dipoi, disse ancora la maggiore alla minore: «Io son stata ieri col padre mio: diamogli del vino a bere anche stanotte, e starai tu con lui, per assicurare a nostro padre una discendenza».
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.	35 Dettero dunque, anche quella notte, del vino da bere al padre, ed entrata a lui la figlia minore con lui stette, ed anche quella volta egli non se ne accòrse, nè quando essa si pose giù, nè quando si alzò.
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.	36 Concepirono dunque le due figlie di Lot per mezzo del padre loro.
37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.	37 La maggiore partorì un figlio, e lo chiamò Moab; fu il padre de' Moabiti, che sono anc'oggi.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.	38 Anche la minore partorì un figlio, e gli mise nome Ammon; fu padre degli Ammoniti, che durano anc'oggi.
