1 U početku bijaše Riječ i Riječ bijaše u Boga i Riječ bijaše Bog.	1 In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God.
2 Ona bijaše u početku u Boga.	2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Sve postade po njoj i bez nje ne postade ništa. Svemu što postade	3 Through him al things came into being, not one thing came into being except through him.
4 u njoj bijaše život i život bijaše ljudima svjetlo;	4 What has come into being in him was life, life that was the light of men;
5 i svjetlo u tami svijetli i tama ga ne obuze.	5 and light shines in darkness, and darkness could not overpower it.
6 Bî čovjek poslan od Boga, ime mu Ivan.	6 A man came, sent by God. His name was John.
7 On dođe kao svjedok da posvjedoči za Svjetlo da svi vjeruju po njemu.	7 He came as a witness, to bear witness to the light, so that everyone might believe through him.
8 Ne bijaše on Svjetlo, nego – da posvjedoči za Svjetlo.	8 He was not the light, he was to bear witness to the light.
9 Svjetlo istinsko koje prosvjetljuje svakog čovjeka dođe na svijet;	9 The Word was the real light that gives light to everyone; he was coming into the world.
10 bijaše na svijetu i svijet po njemu posta i svijet ga ne upozna.	10 He was in the world that had come into being through him, and the world did not recognise him.
11 K svojima dođe i njegovi ga ne primiše.	11 He came to his own and his own people did not accept him.
12 A onima koji ga primiše podade moć da postanu djeca Božja: onima koji vjeruju u njegovo ime,	12 But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed inhis name
13 koji su rođeni ne od krvi, ni od volje tjelesne, ni od volje muževlje, nego – od Boga.	13 who were born not from human stock or human desire or human will but from God himself.
14 I Riječ tijelom postade i nastani se među nama i vidjesmo slavu njegovu – slavu koju ima kao Jedinorođenac od Oca – pun milosti i istine.	14 The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from theFather as only Son of the Father, ful of grace and truth.
15 Ivan svjedoči za njega. Viče: »To je onaj o kojem rekoh: koji za mnom dolazi, preda mnom je jer bijaše prije mene!«	15 John witnesses to him. He proclaims: 'This is the one of whom I said: He who comes after me haspassed ahead of me because he existed before me.'
16 Doista, od punine njegove svi mi primismo, i to milost na milost.	16 Indeed, from his ful ness we have, al of us, received -- one gift replacing another,
17 Uistinu, Zakon bijaše dan po Mojsiju, a milost i istina nasta po Isusu Kristu.	17 for the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.
18 Boga nitko nikada ne vidje: Jedinorođenac – Bog – koji je u krilu Očevu, on ga obznani.	18 No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made himknown.
19 A evo svjedočanstva Ivanova. Kad su Židovi iz Jeruzalema poslali k njemu svećenike i levite da ga upitaju: »Tko si ti?«,	19 This was the witness of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to askhim, 'Who are you?'
20 on prizna; ne zanijeka, nego prizna: »Ja nisam Krist.«	20 He declared, he did not deny but declared, 'I am not the Christ.'
21 Upitaše ga nato: »Što dakle? Jesi li Ilija?« Odgovori: »Nisam.« »Jesi li Prorok?« Odgovori: »Ne.«	21 So they asked, 'Then are you Elijah?' He replied, 'I am not.' 'Are you the Prophet?' He answered, 'No.'
22 Tada mu rekoše: »Pa tko si da dadnemo odgovor onima koji su nas poslali? Što kažeš sam o sebi?«	22 So they said to him, 'Who are you? We must take back an answer to those who sent us. What haveyou to say about yourself?'
23 On odgovori: »Ja sam glas koji viče u pustinji: Poravnite put Gospodnji! – kako reče prorok Izaija.«	23 So he said, 'I am, as Isaiah prophesied: A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for theLord. Make his paths straight!'
24 A neki izaslanici bijahu farizeji.	24 Now those who had been sent were Pharisees,
25 Oni prihvatiše riječ i upitaše ga: »Zašto onda krstiš kad nisi Krist, ni Ilija, ni Prorok?«	25 and they put this question to him, 'Why are you baptising if you are not the Christ, and not Elijah, andnot the Prophet?'
26 Ivan im odgovori: »Ja krstim vodom. Među vama stoji koga vi ne poznate –	26 John answered them, 'I baptise with water; but standing among you -- unknown to you-
27 onaj koji za mnom dolazi, komu ja nisam dostojan odriješiti remenje na obući.«	27 is the one who is coming after me; and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandal.'
28 To se dogodilo u Betaniji s onu stranu Jordana, gdje je Ivan krstio.	28 This happened at Bethany, on the far side of the Jordan, where John was baptising.
29 Sutradan Ivan ugleda Isusa gdje dolazi k njemu pa reče: »Evo Jaganjca Božjega koji odnosi grijeh svijeta!	29 The next day, he saw Jesus coming towards him and said, 'Look, there is the lamb of God that takesaway the sin of the world.
30 To je onaj o kojem rekoh: Za mnom dolazi čovjek koji je preda mnom jer bijaše prije mene!«	30 It was of him that I said, "Behind me comes one who has passed ahead of me because he existedbefore me."
31 »Ja ga nisam poznavao, ali baš zato dođoh i krstim vodom da se on očituje Izraelu.«	31 I did not know him myself, and yet my purpose in coming to baptise with water was so that he might berevealed to Israel.'
32 I posvjedoči Ivan: »Promatrao sam Duha gdje s neba silazi kao golub i ostaje na njemu.	32 And John declared, 'I saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven and rest on him.
33 Njega ja nisam poznavao, ali onaj koji me posla vodom krstiti reče mi: ‘Na koga vidiš da Duh silazi i ostaje na njemu, to je onaj koji krsti Duhom Svetim.’	33 I did not know him myself, but he who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, "The man onwhom you see the Spirit come down and rest is the one who is to baptise with the Holy Spirit."
34 I ja sam to vidio i svjedočim: on je Sin Božji.«	34 I have seen and I testify that he is the Chosen One of God.'
35 Sutradan opet stajaše Ivan s dvojicom svojih učenika.	35 The next day as John stood there again with two of his disciples, Jesus went past,
36 Ugleda Isusa koji je onuda prolazio i reče: »Evo Jaganjca Božjega!«	36 and John looked towards him and said, 'Look, there is the lamb of God.'
37 Te njegove riječi čula ona dva njegova učenika pa pođoše za Isusom.	37 And the two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus.
38 Isus se obazre i vidjevši da idu za njim, upita ih: »Što tražite?« Oni mu rekoše: »Rabbi« – što znači: »Učitelju – gdje stanuješ?«	38 Jesus turned round, saw them following and said, 'What do you want?' They answered, 'Rabbi' --which means Teacher-'where do you live?'
39 Reče im: »Dođite i vidjet ćete.« Pođoše dakle i vidješe gdje stanuje i ostadoše kod njega onaj dan. Bila je otprilike deseta ura.	39 He replied, 'Come and see'; so they went and saw where he lived, and stayed with him that day. It wasabout the tenth hour.
40 Jedan od one dvojice, koji su čuvši Ivana pošli za Isusom, bijaše Andrija, brat Šimuna Petra.	40 One of these two who became followers of Jesus after hearing what John had said was Andrew, thebrother of Simon Peter.
41 On najprije nađe svoga brata Šimuna te će mu: »Našli smo Mesiju!« – što znači »Krist – Pomazanik«.	41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and say to him, 'We have found the Messiah' -- whichmeans the Christ-
42 Dovede ga Isusu, a Isus ga pogleda i reče: »Ti si Šimun, sin Ivanov! Zvat ćeš se Kefa!« – što znači »Petar – Stijena«.	42 and he took Simon to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, 'You are Simon son of John; you are to becal ed Cephas' -- which means Rock.
43 Sutradan naumi Isus poći u Galileju. Nađe Filipa i reče mu: »Pođi za mnom!«	43 The next day, after Jesus had decided to leave for Galilee, he met Philip and said, 'Follow me.'
44 Filip je bio iz Betsaide, iz grada Andrijina i Petrova.	44 Philip came from the same town, Bethsaida, as Andrew and Peter.
45 Filip nađe Natanaela i javi mu: »Našli smo onoga o kome je pisao Mojsije u Zakonu i Proroci: Isusa, sina Josipova, iz Nazareta.«	45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, 'We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and theprophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.'
46 Reče mu Natanael: »Iz Nazareta da može biti što dobro?« Kaže mu Filip: »Dođi i vidi.«	46 Nathanael said to him, 'From Nazareth? Can anything good come from that place?' Philip replied,'Come and see.'
47 Kad Isus ugleda gdje Natanael dolazi k njemu, reče za njega: »Evo istinitog Izraelca u kojem nema prijevare!«	47 When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, 'There, truly, is an Israelite in whom there is nodeception.'
48 Kaže mu Natanael: »Odakle me poznaješ?« Odgovori mu Isus: »Vidjeh te prije negoli te Filip pozva, dok si bio pod smokvom.«	48 Nathanael asked, 'How do you know me?' Jesus replied, 'Before Philip came to call you, I saw youunder the fig tree.'
49 Nato će mu Natanael: »Učitelju, ti si Sin Božji! Ti kralj si Izraelov!«	49 Nathanael answered, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel.'
50 Odgovori mu Isus: »Stoga što ti rekoh: ‘Vidjeh te pod smokvom’, vjeruješ. I više ćeš od toga vidjeti!«	50 Jesus replied, 'You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. You are going to seegreater things than that.'
51 I nadoda: »Zaista, zaista, kažem vam: gledat ćete otvoreno nebo i anđele Božje gdje uzlaze i silaze nad Sina Čovječjega.«	51 And then he added, 'In al truth I tel you, you will see heaven open and the angels of God ascendingand descending over the Son of man.'
