DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 And when a long time was passed, after that the Lord had given peace to Israel, all the nations round about being subdued, and Josue being now old, and far advanced in years:	1 Trascorsi molti giorni dal tempo in cui il Signore aveva dato riposo a Israele da tutti i suoi nemici all'intorno, Giosuè, ormai vecchio e avanzato in età,
2 Josue called for all Israel, and for the elders, and for the princes, and for the judges, and for the masters, and said to them: I am old, and far advanced in years:	2 convocò tutto Israele, i suoi anziani, i suoi prìncipi, i suoi giudici e i suoi ufficiali e disse loro: "Io sono diventato vecchio e avanzato in età;
3 And you see all that the Lord your God hath done to all the nations round about, how he himself hath fought for you:	3 voi avete veduto tutto quello che ha fatto il Signore, vostro Dio, a tutte queste nazioni a causa di voi: poiché è il Signore, vostro Dio, che ha combattuto per voi.
4 And now since he hath divided to you by lot all the land, from the east of the Jordan unto the great sea, and many nations yet remain:	4 Vedete, io vi ho distribuito a sorte, come eredità per le vostre tribù, queste nazioni che restano, come tutte quelle nazioni che io ho sterminato dal Giordano, fino al Mar Mediterraneo, ad ovest.
5 The Lord your God will destroy them, and take them away from before your face, and you shall possess the land as he hath promised you.	5 Il Signore, vostro Dio, li scaccerà davanti a voi, li spossesserà davanti ai vostri occhi e voi prenderete possesso del loro paese, come vi ha detto il Signore, vostro Dio.
6 Only take courage, and be careful to observe all things that are written in the book of the law of Moses: and turn not aside from them neither to the right hand nor to the left:	6 Siate perciò molto costanti nel ritenere e praticare tutto quello che è scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra;
7 Lest after that you are come in among the Gentiles, who will remain among you, you should swear by the name of their gods, and serve them, and adore them:	7 senza venire a contatto con queste nazioni che sono rimaste con voi; non fate menzione del nome dei loro dèi, non giurate per essi, non servite, non prostratevi davanti a loro,
8 But cleave ye unto the Lord your God: as you have done until this day.	8 ma state attaccati al Signore, vostro Dio, come avete fatto fino a questo giorno.
9 And then the Lord God will take away before your eyes nations that are great and very strong, and no man shall be able to resist you.	9 Il Signore, infatti, ha distrutto davanti a voi nazioni grandi e forti, e non c'è stato uno che abbia tenuto fronte a voi fino ad oggi.
10 One of you shall chase a thousand men of the enemies: because the Lord your God himself will fight for you, as he hath promised.	10 Uno solo di voi poteva inseguirne migliaia, perché il Signore, vostro Dio, egli stesso combatteva per voi, come vi aveva promesso.
11 ,11This only take care of with all diligence, that you love the Lord your God.	11 Badate bene, per le vostre anime, di amare il Signore, vostro Dio.
12 But if you will embrace the errors of these nations that dwell among you, and make marriages with them, and join friendships:	12 Ché se gli volterete le spalle e vi unirete al resto di quelle nazioni che sono rimaste con voi, se contrarrete con esse matrimoni e vi mischierete ad esse ed esse a voi,
13 Know ye for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face, but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumblingblock at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you.	13 allora abbiate per certo che il Signore, vostro Dio, non continuerà a distruggere quelle nazioni davanti a voi, ma esse saranno per voi una rete, un laccio, un flagello ai vostri fianchi e spine nei vostri occhi, finché non siate spariti da questa buona terra che vi ha dato il Signore, vostro Dio.
14 Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth, and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one hath failed.	14 Ecco che io oggi me ne vado per la via di ogni uomo; voi pertanto riconoscete con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta la vostra anima che non è andata a vuoto una cosa sola di tutte quelle belle cose che aveva detto il Signore, vostro Dio: tutto si è avverato per voi; non è fallita una sola cosa.
15 Therefore as he hath fulfilled in deed, what he promised, and all things prosperous have come: so Will he bring upon you all the evils he hath threatened, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you,	15 Ora, come si è avverata per voi ogni bella promessa che vi aveva fatto il Signore, vostro Dio, così il Signore farà cadere su di voi ogni parola cattiva, finché non siate sterminati da questa buona terra che vi ha dato il Signore, vostro Dio:
16 When you shall have transgressed the covenant of the Lord your God, which he hath made with you, and shall have served strange gods, and adored them : then shall the indignation of the Lord rise up quickly and speedily against you, and you shall be taken away from this excellent land, which he hath delivered to you.	16 se voi trasgredirete l'alleanza del Signore, vostro Dio, ch'egli vi ha prescritto e andrete a servire altri dèi e vi darete loro, allora s'infiammerà contro di voi l'ira del Signore e rapidamente voi sparirete da questa buona terra che vi ha dato".
