1 And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him.	1 Et il advint, comme il était venu un sabbat chez l'un des chefs des Pharisiens pour prendre un repas,qu'eux étaient à l'observer.
2 And behold, there was a certain man before him that had the dropsy.	2 Et voici qu'un hydropique se trouvait devant lui.
3 And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying: Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?	3 Prenant la parole, Jésus dit aux légistes et aux Pharisiens: "Est-il permis, le sabbat, de guérir, ou non?"
4 But they held their peace. But he taking him, healed him, and sent him away.	4 Et eux se tinrent cois. Prenant alors le malade, il le guérit et le renvoya.
5 And answering them, he said: Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a pit, and will not immediately draw him out, on the sabbath day?	5 Puis il leur dit: "Lequel d'entre vous, si son fils ou son boeuf vient à tomber dans un puits, ne l'en tireraaussitôt, le jour du sabbat?"
6 And they could not answer him to these things.	6 Et ils ne purent rien répondre à cela.
7 And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:	7 Il disait ensuite une parabole à l'adresse des invités, remarquant comment ils choisissaient les premiersdivans; il leur disait:
8 When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him:	8 "Lorsque quelqu'un t'invite à un repas de noces, ne va pas t'étendre sur le premier divan, de peur qu'unplus digne que toi n'ait été invité par ton hôte,
9 And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.	9 et que celui qui vous a invités, toi et lui, ne vienne te dire: Cède-lui la place. Et alors tu devrais, pleinde confusion, aller occuper la dernière place.
10 But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee.	10 Au contraire, lorsque tu es invité, va te mettre à la dernière place, de façon qu'à son arrivée celui quit'a invité te dise: Mon ami, monte plus haut. Alors il y aura pour toi de l'honneur devant tous les autres convives.
11 Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.	11 Car quiconque s'élève sera abaissé, et celui qui s'abaisse sera élevé."
12 And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee.	12 Puis il disait à celui qui l'avait invité: "Lorsque tu donnes un déjeuner ou un dîner, ne convie ni tesamis, ni tes frères, ni tes parents, ni de riches voisins, de peur qu'eux aussi ne t'invitent à leur tour et qu'on ne terende la pareille.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind;	13 Mais lorsque tu donnes un festin, invite des pauvres, des estropiés, des boiteux, des aveugles;
14 And thou shalt be blessed, because they have not wherewith to make thee recompense: for recompense shall be made thee at the resurrection of the just.	14 heureux seras-tu alors de ce qu'ils n'ont pas de quoi te le rendre! Car cela te sera rendu lors de larésurrection des justes."
15 When one of them that sat at table with him, had heard these things, he said to him: Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.	15 A ces mots, l'un des convives lui dit: "Heureux celui qui prendra son repas dans le Royaume deDieu!"
16 But he said to him: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many.	16 Il lui dit: "Un homme faisait un grand dîner, auquel il invite beaucoup de monde.
17 And he sent his servant at the hour of supper to say to them that were invited, that they should come, for now all things are ready.	17 A l'heure du dîner, il envoya son serviteur dire aux invités: Venez; maintenant tout est prêt.
18 And they began all at once to make excuse. The first said to him: I have bought a farm, and I must needs go out and see it: I pray thee, hold me excused.	18 Et tous, comme de concert, se mirent à s'excuser. Le premier lui dit: J'ai acheté un champ et il mefaut aller le voir; je t'en prie, tiens-moi pour excusé.
19 And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, hold me excused.	19 Un autre dit: J'ai acheté cinq paires de boeufs et je pars les essayer; je t'en prie, tiens-moi pourexcusé.
20 And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.	20 Un autre dit: Je viens de me marier, et c'est pourquoi je ne puis venir.
21 And the servant returning, told these things to his lord. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant: Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame.	21 "A son retour, le serviteur rapporta cela à son maître. Alors, pris de colère, le maître de maison dit àson serviteur: Va-t-en vite par les places et les rues de la ville, et introduis ici les pauvres, les estropiés, lesaveugles et les boiteux. --
22 And the servant said: Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.	22 Maître, dit le serviteur, tes ordres sont exécutés, et il y a encore de la place.
23 And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.	23 Et le maître dit au serviteur: Va-t-en par les chemins et le long des clôtures, et fais entrer les gens deforce, afin que ma maison se remplisse.
24 But I say unto you, that none of those men that were invited, shall taste of my supper.	24 Car, je vous le dis, aucun de ces hommes qui avaient été invités ne goûtera de mon dîner."
25 And there went great multitudes with him. And turning, he said to them:	25 Des foules nombreuses faisaient route avec lui, et se retournant il leur dit:
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.	26 "Si quelqu'un vient à moi sans haïr son père, sa mère, sa femme, ses enfants, ses frères, ses soeurs, etjusqu'à sa propre vie, il ne peut être mon disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not carry his cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple.	27 Quiconque ne porte pas sa croix et ne vient pas derrière moi ne peut être mon disciple.
28 For which of you having a mind to build a tower, doth not first sit down, and reckon the charges that are necessary, whether he have wherewithal to finish it:	28 "Qui de vous en effet, s'il veut bâtir une tour, ne commence par s'asseoir pour calculer la dépense etvoir s'il a de quoi aller jusqu'au bout?
29 Lest, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able ti finish it, all that see it begin to mock him,	29 De peur que, s'il pose les fondations et ne peut achever, tous ceux qui le verront ne se mettent à semoquer de lui, en disant:
30 Saying: This man began to build, and was not able to finish.	30 Voilà un homme qui a commencé de bâtir et il n'a pu achever!
31 Or what king, about to go to make war against another king, doth not first sit down, and think whether he be able, with ten thousand, to meet him that, with twenty thousand, cometh against him?	31 Ou encore quel est le roi qui, partant faire la guerre à un autre roi, ne commencera par s'asseoir pourexaminer s'il est capable, avec 10.000 hommes, de se porter à la rencontre de celui qui marche contre lui avec20.000?
32 Or else, whilst the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace.	32 Sinon, alors que l'autre est encore loin, il lui envoie une ambassade pour demander la paix.
33 So likewise every one of you that doth not renounce all that he possesseth, cannot be my disciple.	33 Ainsi donc, quiconque parmi vous ne renonce pas à tous ses biens ne peut être mon disciple.
34 Salt is good. But if the salt shall lose its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?	34 "C'est donc une bonne chose que le sel. Mais si même le sel vient à s'affadir, avec quoil'assaisonnera-t-on?
35 It is neither profitable for the land nor for the dunghill, but shall be cast out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.	35 Il n'est bon ni pour la terre ni pour le fumier: on le jette dehors. Celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre,qu'il entende!"
