Jeremiah 50

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 The word that the Lord hath spoken against Babylon, and against the land of the Chaldeans in the hand of Jeremias the prophet.	1 Parole qu'a prononcée Yahvé contre Babylone, contre le pays des Chaldéens, par le ministère duprophète Jérémie.
2 Declare ye among the nations, and publish it, lift up a standard: proclaim, and conceal it not: say: Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is overthrown, their graven things are confounded, their idols are overthrown.	2 Annoncez-le parmi les nations, publiez-le, hissez un signal et publiez-le, ne cachez rien,proclamez: Babylone est prise, Bel honteux, Mérodak écroulé. (Ses idoles sont honteuses, ses Saletés écroulées.)
3 For a nation is come up against her out of the north, which shall make her land desolate: and there shall be none to dwell therein, from man even to beast:: yea they are removed, and gone away.	3 Car du Nord monte contre elle une nation qui fera de son pays une désolation; nul n'y habiteraplus, hommes et bêtes ont fui et disparu.
4 In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Juda together: going and weeping they shall make haste, and shall seek the Lord their God.	4 En ces jours et en ce temps -- oracle de Yahvé -- les enfants d'Israël reviendront (eux et les enfantsde Juda ensemble), ils feront route en pleurant et chercheront Yahvé leur Dieu.
5 They shall ask the way to Sion, their faces are hitherward. They shall come, and shall be joined to the Lord by an everlasting covenant, which shall never be forgotten.	5 Ils réclameront Sion, vers elle, ils tourneront leur face: "Venez! Attachons-nous à Yahvé par unealliance éternelle que l'on n'oublie pas!"
6 My people have been a lost flock, their shepherds have caused them to go astray, and have made them wander in the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place.	6 Les gens de mon peuple étaient des brebis perdues. Leurs bergers les égaraient, les montagnes lesdévoyaient; de montagne en colline, ils allaient, oubliant leur bercail.
7 All that found them, have devoured them: and their enemies said: We have not sinned in so doing: because they have sinned against the Lord the beauty of justice, and against the Lord the hope of their fathers.	7 Tous ceux qui les trouvaient les dévoraient, leurs ennemis disaient: "Nous ne sommes pas en fautepuisqu'ils ont péché contre Yahvé, la demeure de justice, et contre l'espoir de leurs pères -- Yahvé!"
8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans: and be ye as kids at the head of the flock.	8 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone et du pays des Chaldéens, sortez! Soyez comme des boucs en têted'un troupeau.
9 For behold I raise up, and will bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the land of the north: and they shall be prepared against her, and from thence she shall be taken: their arrows, like those of a mighty man, a destroyer, shall not return in vain.	9 Car voici: je vais susciter et faire monter contre Babylone une coalition de grandes nations;arrivant du pays du Nord, elles se rangeront contre elle: c'est par là qu'on doit la prendre; les flèches sont cellesd'un guerrier habile qui ne revient jamais les mains vides.
10 And Chaldea shall be made a prey: all that waste her shall be filled, saith the Lord.	10 La Chaldée sera mise au pillage, tous ses pilleurs seront rassasiés, oracle de Yahvé.
11 Because you rejoice, and speak great things, pillaging my inheritance: because you are spread abroad as calves upon the grass, and have bellowed as bulls.	11 Ah! Réjouissez-vous! Triomphez, vous, les ravageurs de mon héritage! Bondissez comme unegénisse dans l'herbe! Hennissez comme des étalons!
12 Your mother is confounded exceedingly, and she that bore you is made even with the dust: behold she shall be the last among the nations, a wilderness unpassable, and dry.	12 Votre mère est couverte de honte, celle qui vous enfanta rougit de confusion. Maintenant elle estla dernière des nations: désert, aridité et steppe.
13 Because of the wrath of the Lord it shall not be inhabited, but shall be wholly desolate: every one that shall pass by Babylon, shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.	13 La colère de Yahvé fera qu'on n'y habite plus, elle deviendra une solitude totale. Quiconquepassera près de Babylone en restera stupéfait et sifflera devant toute ses blessures.
14 Prepare yourselves against Babylon round about, all you that bend the bow: fight against her, spare not arrows: because she hath sinned against the Lord.	14 Rangez-vous contre Babylone, encerclez-la, vous tous qui bandez l'arc! Tirez sur elle, neménagez pas les flèches, car elle a péché contre Yahvé!
15 Shout against her, she hath every where given her hand, her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down, for it is the vengeance of the Lord. Take vengeance upon her: as she hath done, so do to her.	15 Poussez contre elle le cri de guerre, de tous côtés! Elle tend la main, ses bastions croulent, sesremparts sont renversés. C'est la vengeance de Yahvé! Vengez-vous d'elle! Faites-lui ce qu'elle a fait!
16 Destroy the sower out of Babylon, and him that holdeth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the sword of the dove every man shall return to his people, and every one shall flee to his own land.	16 Retranchez de Babylone celui qui sème et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson. Loinde l'épée dévastatrice, que chacun retourne à son peuple, que chacun fuie vers son pays!
17 Israel is a scattered flock, the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria devoured him: and last this Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon hath broken his bones.	17 Israël était une brebis égarée que pourchassaient des lions. Le premier qui le dévora fut le roid'Assur et celui qui, le dernier, lui brisa les os, ce fut Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone.
18 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Behold I will visit the king of Babylon and his land, as I have visited the king of Assyria.	18 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: Me voici pour visiter le roi de Babyloneet son pays, comme j'ai visité le roi d'Assur.
19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation: and he shall feed on Carmel, and Bason, and his soul shall be satisfied in mount Ephraim, and Galaad.	19 Et je vais ramener Israël à son pacage pour qu'il paisse au Carmel et en Bashân; sur la montagned'Ephraïm et en Galaad, il sera rassasié.
20 In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none: and the sin of Juda, and there shall none be found: for I will be merciful to them, whom I shall leave.	20 En ces jours et en ce temps -- oracle de Yahvé -- on cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël: elle ne sera plus;les péchés de Juda: on ne les trouvera plus; car je pardonnerai au reste que je laisse.
21 Go up against the land of the rulers, and punish the inhabitants thereof, waste, and destroy all behind them, saith the Lord: and do according to all that I have commanded thee.	21 "Monte au pays de Meratayim, monte contre lui et contre les habitants de Peqod: massacre-les,extermine-les jusqu'au dernier -- oracle de Yahvé. Exécute tous mes ordres!"
22 A noise of war in the land, and a great destruction.	22 Fracas de bataille dans le pays! Désastre immense!
23 How is the hammer of the whole earth broken, and destroyed! how is Babylon turned into a desert among the nations!	23 Comment a-t-il été brisé et mis en pièces, le marteau du monde entier? Comment est-elle devenueun objet d'épouvante, Babylone parmi les nations?
24 I have caused thee to fall into a snare, and thou art taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware of it: thou art found and caught, because thou hast provoked the Lord.	24 Je t'ai tendu un piège et tu as été prise, Babylone, sans t'en apercevoir. Tu as été trouvée etmaîtrisée, car tu t'en prenais à Yahvé!
25 The Lord hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his wrath : for the Lord the God of hosts hath a work to be done in the land of the Chaldeans.	25 Yahvé a ouvert son arsenal et sorti les armes de sa colère. C'est qu'il y avait du travail pour leSeigneur Yahvé Sabaot au pays des Chaldéens! --
26 Come ye against her from the uttermost borders: open that they may go forth that shall tread her down: take the stones out of the way, and make heaps, and destroy her: and let nothing of her be left.	26 "Venez-y de partout, ouvrez ses greniers, entassez-la comme gerbes, exterminez-la, que rien n'enreste!
27 Destroy all her valiant men, let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them, for their day is come, the time of their visitation.	27 Massacrez tous ses taureaux, qu'ils descendent à l'abattoir! Malheur à eux, il est arrivé, leur Jour,le temps de leur châtiment."
28 The voice of them that flee, and of them that have escaped out of the land of Babylon: to declare in Sion the revenge of the Lord our God, the revenge of his temple.	28 Ecoutez! Fuyards et rescapés du pays de Babylone viennent annoncer dans Sion la vengeance deYahvé notre Dieu, la vengeance de son Temple!
29 Declare to many against Babylon, to all that bend the bow: stand together against her round about, and let nose escape; pay her according to her work: according to all that she hath done, do ye to her: for she hath lifted up herself against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.	29 Convoquez les archers contre Babylone, tous ceux qui bandent l'arc! Campez contre elle toutautour, qu'on ne lui laisse pas d'issue. Payez-la selon ses oeuvres, tout ce qu'elle a fait, faites-le lui. Car elle futinsolente contre Yahvé, contre le Saint d'Israël.
30 Therefore shall her young men fall in her streets: and all her men of war shall hold their peace in that day, saith the Lord.	30 Aussi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places et tous ses hommes de guerre périront, en ce jour-là, oracle de Yahvé!
31 Behold I come against thee, O proud one, saith the Lord the God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time of thy visitation.	31 C'est contre toi que j'en ai, "Insolence" -- oracle du Seigneur Yahvé Sabaot -- ton Jour est arrivé,le temps où je te châtie.
32 And the proud one shall fall, he shall fall down, and there shall be none to lift him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.	32 "Insolence" va être culbutée, elle tombera, nul ne la relèvera; je mettrai le feu à ses villes, ildévorera tous ses alentours.
33 Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The children of Israel, and the children of Juda are oppressed together: all that have taken them captives, hold them fast, they will not let them go.	33 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Les enfants d'Israël sont opprimés (et les enfants de Juda avec eux),tous ceux qui les ont faits captifs les tiennent, ils refusent de les lâcher.
34 Their redeemer is strong, the Lord of hosts is his name : he will defend their cause in judgment, to terrify the land, and to disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.	34 Mais leur Rédempteur est puissant, Yahvé Sabaot est son nom. Il va prendre en main leur causeafin de donner du repos au pays, mais de faire trembler les habitants de Babylone.
35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the Lord, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.	35 Epée contre les Chaldéens -- oracle de Yahvé -- contre les habitants de Babylone, contre sesprinces et ses sages!
36 A sword upon her diviners, and they shall be foolish: a sword upon her valiant ones, and they shall be dismayed.	36 Epée contre ses devins: qu'ils déraisonnent! Epée contre ses héros: qu'ils soient pris de panique!
37 A sword upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the people that are in the midst of her: and they shall become as women: a sword upon her treasures, and they shall be made a spoil.	37 Epée contre ses chevaux et ses chars, et contre le ramassis qu'elle recèle: qu'ils soient comme desfemmes! Epée contre ses trésors: qu'on les pille!
38 A drought upon her waters, and they shall be dried up: because it is a land of idols, and they glory in monstrous things.	38 Sécheresse contre ses eaux: qu'elles tarissent! Car c'est un pays d'idoles, ils se passionnent pourleurs Epouvantails!
39 Therefore shall dragons dwell there with the fig fauns: and ostriches shall dwell therein, and it shall be no more inhabited for ever, neither shall it be built up from generation to generation.	39 Aussi des lynx y gîteront avec des chacals, des autruches y auront leur demeure. Elle ne sera plushabitée, à jamais, d'âge en âge elle ne sera plus peuplée.
40 As the Lord overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha, and their neighbour cities, saith the Lord: no man shall dwell there, neither shall the son of man inhabit it.	40 Comme lorsque Dieu renversa Sodome, Gomorrhe et les villes voisines -- oracle de Yahvé --personne n'y habitera plus, aucun humain n'y séjournera plus.
41 Behold a people cometh from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall rise from the ends of the earth.	41 Voici qu'un peuple arrive du Nord, une grande nation et des rois nombreux se lèvent des confinsde la terre.
42 They shall take the bow and the shield: they are cruel and unmerciful: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses: like a man prepared for battle against thee, O daughter of Babylon.	42 Ils tiennent fermement l'arc et le javelot, ils sont barbares et impitoyables; leur bruit est comme lemugissement de la mer; ils montent des chevaux, ils sont prêts à combattre comme un seul homme contre toi,fille de Babylone.
43 The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands are grown feeble: anguish hath taken hold of him, pangs as a, woman in labour.	43 Le roi de Babylone a appris la nouvelle, ses mains ont défailli, l'angoisse l'a pris, une douleurcomme pour celle qui enfante.
44 Behold he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan to the strong and beautiful: for I will make him run suddenly upon her: and who shall be the chosen one whom I may appoint over her? for who is like to me? and who shall bear up against me? and who is that shepherd that can withstand my countenance?	44 Voici que, tel un lion, il monte des halliers du Jourdain vers le pâturage toujours vert. En un clind'oeil, je les ferai déguerpir de là, pour y établir celui que je choisirai. Qui en effet est mon égal? Qui pourraitm'assigner en justice? Quel est donc le pasteur qui tiendrait devant moi?
45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, which he hath taken against Babylon: and his thoughts which he hath thought against the land of the Chaldeans: surely the little ones of the flocks shall pull them down, of a truth their habitation shall be destroyed with them.	45 Aussi apprenez le dessein que Yahvé a formé contre Babylone et le plan qu'il a résolu contre lepays des Chaldéens: certainement on les traînera comme les plus petits du troupeau! Certainement on vasaccager leur prairie devant eux!
46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard amongst the nations.	46 Au bruit de la prise de Babylone, la terre tremble, un cri se fait entendre parmi les nations.
