Sirach 4

DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Son, defraud not the poor of alms, and turn not away thy eyes from the poor.	1 Figlio, non defraudare al povero l'elemosina e non rivolgere dall'indigente gli occhi tuoi.
2 Despise not the hungry soul: and provoke not the Boor in his want.	2 Non disprezzare colui che ha fame, e non inasprire il povero nella sua indigenza.
3 Afflict not the heart of the needy, and defer not to give to him that is in distress.	3 Non affliggere il cuore del meschino, e non differire il soccorso a chi è nelle angustie.
4 Reject not the petition of the afflicted: and turn not away thy face from the needy.	4 Non rigettare la preghiera del tribolato, e non rivolgere la faccia dal bisognoso.
5 Turn not away thy eyes from the poor for fear of anger: and leave not to them that ask of thee to curse thee behind thy back.	5 Non rivolgere gli occhi tuoi dal mendico per sdegno, non dare occasione di maledirti dietro le spalle a quei che ti pregano.
6 For the prayer of him that curseth thee in the bitterness of his soul, shall be heard, for he that made him will hear him.	6 Perchè l'imprecazione di chi ti maledice nell'amarezza dell'anima sarà esaudita: l'ascolterà colui che lo creò.
7 Make thyself affable to the congregation of the poor, and humble thy soul to the ancient, and bow thy head to a great man.	7 Renditi affabile alla folla dei poveri, umiliati di cuore dinanzi all'anziano, e dinanzi al grande abbassa la testa.
8 Bow down thy ear cheerfully to the poor, and pay what thou owest, and answer him peaceable words with mildness.	8 Porgi senza annoiarti l'orecchio ai povero, soddisfa il tuo debito, e rispondi a lui con benignità e mansuetudine.
9 Deliver him that suffereth wrong out of the hand of the proud: and be not fainthearted in thy soul.	9 Libera dalla mano del superbo colui che soffre ingiuria, e non sia ciò gravoso all'anima tua.
10 In judging be merciful to the fatherless as a father, and as a husband to their mother.	10 Nel giudicare sii misericordioso qual padre verso gli orfani, e tieni luogo di marito alla loro madre,
11 And thou shalt be as the obedient son of the most High, and he will have mercy on thee more than a mother.	11 e tu sarai come un figlio obbediente dell'Altissimo ed Egli avrà compassione di te più d'una madre.
12 Wisdom inspireth life into her children, and protecteth them that seek after her, and will go before them in the way of justice.	12 La sapienza ispira la vita ai suoi figli, prende sotto la sua protezione quelli che la cercano, e va loro innanzi nella via della giustizia.
13 And he that loveth her, loveth life: and they that watch for her, shall embrace her sweetness.	13 Chi ama lei ama la vita, e chi veglia per lei godrà della sua pace.
14 They that hold her fast, shall inherit life: and whithersoever she entereth, God will give a blessing.	14 Chi la possiede avrà in eredità la vita, e dovunque entrerà vi sarà la benedizio ne di Dio.
15 They that serve her, shall be servants to the holy one: and God loveth them that love her.	15 Chi la serve obbedirà al Santo, e chi l'ama è amato da Dio.
16 He that hearkeneth to her, shall judge nations: and he that looketh upon her, shall remain secure.	16 Chi l'ascolta giudicherà le nazioni, e chi in lei tien fisso lo sguardo starà sicuro.
17 If he trust to her, he shall inherit her, and his generation shall be in assurance.	17 Se crederà in lei l'avrà in eredità, che sarà confermata ai suoi discendenti;
18 For she walketh with him in temptation, and at the first she chooseth him.	18 perchè lo accompagna nella prova. Prima di tutto lo sceglie,
19 She will bring upon him fear and dread and trial: and she will scourge him with the affliction of her discipline, till she try him by her laws, and trust his soul.	19 poi manderà sopra di lui timori, paure e prove, lo tormenterà colla sferza della sua disciplina, finché non l'abbia provato nei suoi pensieri, e non possa fidarsi di lui.
20 Then she will strengthen him, and make a straight way to him, and give him joy,	20 Essa gli darà stabilità, tornerà a lui per diritto cammino e lo renderà contento.
21 And will disclose her secrets to him, and will heap upon him treasures of knowledge and understanding of justice.	21 Scoprirà a lui i suoi arcani, metterà in lui tesori di scienza e d'intelligenza della giustizia.
22 But if he go astray, she will forsake him, and deliver him into the hands of his enemy.	22 Ma se egli uscirà di strada, essa l'abbandonerà, e lo lascierà in mano del suo nemico.
23 Son, observe the time, and fly from evil.	23 Figlio, bada al tempo e schi va il male.
24 For thy soul be not ashamed to say the truth.	24 Per l'anima tua non ti vergognare di dire la verità;
25 For there is a shame that bringeth sin, and there is a shame that bringeth glory and grace.	25 perchè vi è una vergogna che porta al peccato e una vergogna che fa onore e rende graditi.
26 Accept no person against thy own person, nor against thy soul a lie.	26 Non usar riguardi colle persone a tuo dànno, e non dire menzogne contro l'anima tua.
27 Reverence not thy neighbour in his fall:	27 Non aver riguardi al tuo prossimo nelle sue cadute.
28 And refrain not to speak in the time of salvation. Hide not thy wisdom in her beauty.	28 Non rattener la parola quando è salutare, non celar la tua sapienza nella sua bellezza;
29 For by the tongue wisdom is discerned: and understanding, and knowledge, and learning by the word of the wise, and steadfastness in the works of justice.	29 perchè per mezzo della lingua si fa conoscere la sapienza e per mezzo della parola assennata il buon senso, la scienza e la dottrina. Ma il fondamento sta nelle opere di giustizia.
30 In nowise speak against the truth, but be ashamed of the lie of thy ignorance.	30 Non contraddire in verun modo alla parola di verità, e arrossisci della falsità detta per ignoranza.
31 Be not ashamed to confess thy sins, but submit not thyself to every man for sin.	31 Non ti vergognare di confessare i tuoi peccati, e non ti sottomettere ad ogni uomo per il peccato.
32 Resist not against the face of the mighty, and do not strive against the stream of the river.	32 Non resistere in faccia al potente, non ti sforzare per opporti all'impeto della corrente.
33 Strive for justice for thy soul, and even unto death fight for justice, and God will overthrow thy enemies for thee.	33 Ma per la giustizia, per l'anima tua lotta con tutte le tue forze, combatti fino alla morte per la giustizia, e Dio combatterà per te contro i tuoi nemici.
34 Be not hasty in thy tongue: and slack and remiss in thy works.	34 Non essere lesto nel parlare e buono a nulla o negligente nel lavorare.
35 Be not as a lion in thy house, terrifying them of thy household, and oppressing them that are under thee.	35 Non fare il leone in casa tua mettendo a soqquadro la famiglia e opprimendo i tuoi sottoposti.
36 Let not thy hand be stretched out to receive, and shut when thou shouldst give.	36 Non sia la tua mano aperta a prendere e chiusa a dare.
