Sirach 27

1 Through poverty many have sinned: and he that seeketh to be enriched, turneth away his eye.	1 Molti peccarono per la miseria, e chi cerca di arricchire, non guar da a null'altra cosa.
2 As a stake sticketh fast in the midst of the joining of stones, so also in the midst of selling and buying, sin shall stick fast.	2 Come sta fitto un palo tralle pietre insieme connesse; cosi il peccato sta ristretto nel mezzo tralla compra, e la vendita.
3 Sin shall be destroyed with the sinner.	3 Ma il delitto, e il delinquente sarà, distrutto.
4 Unless thou hold thyself diligently in the fear of the Lord, thy house shall quickly be overthrown.	4 Se tu non istarai costantemente fisso nel timor del Signore, anderà presto la tua casa in rovina.
5 As when one sifteth with a sieve, the dust will remain: so will the perplexity of a man in his thoughts.	5 Come scotendosi il vaglio, vi resta la loppa; cosi dal pensare viene l'ansietà dell'uomo.
6 The furnace trieth the potter's vessels, and the trial of affliction just men.	6 Nella fornace si provano i vasi di terra, e nella tentazione della tribolazione gli uomini giusti.
7 Be the dressing of a tree sheweth the fruit thereof, so a word out of the thought of the heart of man.	7 Come la cultura dell'albero si conosce dal suo frutto; cosi dalla parola pensata il cuore dell'uomo.
8 Praise not a man before he speaketh, for this is the trial of men.	8 Non dar lode a un uomo prima, che egli abbia parlato; perocché con questo si provano gli uomini.
9 If thou followest justice, thou shalt obtain her: and shalt put her on as a long robe of honour, and thou shalt dwell with her: and she shall protect thee for ever, and in the day of acknowledgment thou shalt find a strong foundation.	9 Se tu seguirai la giustizia, ne farai acquisto, e te ne rivestirai come di veste talare di gloria, e abiterai seco, ed ella sarà tua difesa in eterno, e nel giorno della disamina troverai un sostegno.
10 Birds resort unto their like: so truth will return to them that practise her.	10 I volatili si uniscono co' loro simili, e la verità va a trovare quelli, che la mettono in pratica.
11 The lion always lieth in wait for prey: so do sine for them that work iniquities.	11 Il lione va sempre in traccia della preda, cosi il peccato tende insidie a quelli, che operano l'iniquità.
12 A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon.	12 L'uomo santo è stabile nella sapienza come il sole; ma lo stolto si cangia come la luna.
13 In the midst of the unwise keep in the word till its time: but be continually among men that think.	13 In mezzo agli stolti serba ad altro tempo le parole; ma frequenta di continuo quelli, che pensano.
14 The discourse of sinners is hateful, and their laughter is at the pleasures of sin.	14 I ragionamenti de' peccatori sono odiosi, perché essi fanno festa delle delizie del peccato.
15 The speech that sweareth much shall make the hair of the head stand upright: and its irreverence shall make one stop his ears.	15 I discorsi di uno, che giura molto fanno arricciare i capelli; e la impudenza di lui fa, che uno abbia a turarsi le orecchie.
16 Is the quarrels of the proud is the shedding of blood: and their cursing is a grievous hearing.	16 Le risse de' superbi finiscono in ispargimenti di sangue, e le loro maldicenze sono penose a sentirsi.
17 He that discloseth the secret of a friend loseth his credit, and shall never find a friend to his mind.	17 Chi svela i segreti dell'amico perde il credito, e non troverà un amico secondo il suo desiderio.
18 Love thy neighbour, and be joined to him with fidelity.	18 Ama l'amico, e mantienti fedele a lui.
19 But if thou discover his secrets, follow no more after him.	19 Che se tu sveli i suoi arcani, noi raggiugnerai tu dipoi.
20 For as a man that destroyeth his friend, so also is he that destroyeth the friendship of his neighbour.	20 Perocché l'uomo, che viola l'amicizia, che avea col suo prossimo, è come chi perde (per morte) l'amico.
21 And as one that letteth a bird go out of his hand, so hast thou let thy neighbour go, and thou shalt not get him again.	21 E come uno, che si lascia scappar di mano un uccello, cosi tu hai lasciato andare l'amico tuo, e noi ripiglierai.
22 Follow after him no more, for he is gone afar off, he is fled, as a roe escaped out of the snare: because his soul is wounded.	22 Non gli andar dietro, poiché egli è già molto lontano; essendo fuggito come una capra salvatica dal laccio, perché tu lo hai ferito nell'anima:
23 Thou canst no more bind him up. And of a curse there is reconciliation:	23 Tu non potrai più riunirlo a te. E dopo ingiurie di parole v'è luogo alla riconciliazione;
24 But to disclose the secrets of a friend, leaveth no hope to an unhappy soul.	24 Ma lo scoprire i segreti dell'amico, toglie ogni speranza all'anima disgraziata.
25 He that winketh with the eye forgeth wicked things, and no man will cast him off:	25 Uno adula cogli occhi, e macchina cattive cose, e nissuno lo rigetta da se.
26 In the sight of thy eyes he will sweeten his mouth, and will admire thy words: but at the last he will writhe his mouth, and on thy words he will lay a stumblingblock.	26 In faccia a te egli addolcia le sue parole, e ammirerà i tuoi ragionamenti; ma alla fine muterà linguaggio, e dalle tue parole trarrà occasione di rovinarti.
27 I have hated many things, but not like him, and the Lord will hate him.	27 Molte cose io ho in odio, ma non al pari di lui, e il Signore lo odierà.
28 If one cast a stone on high, it will fall upon his own head: and the deceitful stroke will wound the deceitful.	28 Se uno getta in alto una pietra, ella caderà sul capo di lui, e il colpo dato a tradimento aprirà le piaghe del traditore.
29 He that diggeth a pit, shall fall into it: and he that setteth a stone for his neighbour, shall stumble upon it: and he that layeth a snare for another, shall perish in it.	29 E colui, che aperse la fossa vi caderà drento, e chi ha messo pietra d'inciampo dinanzi al prossimo, vi inciamperà, e chi ad altri prepara il laccio, al laccio perirà.
30 A mischievous counsel shall be rolled back upon the author, and he shall not know from whence it cometh to him.	30 Il perverso disegno si rivolgerà in danno di chi lo ordisce, ed ei non saprà donde il male gli venga.
31 Mockery and reproach are of the proud, and vengeance as a lion shall lie in wait for him.	31 Gli scherni, e gli improperj sono de' superbi, e la vendetta qual lione il soprenderà.
32 They shall perish in a snare that are delighted with the fall of the just: and sorrow shall consume them before they die.	32 Periranno nel laccio quelli, che si rallegrano della caduta de' giusti, e il dolore gli struggerà prima, che muojano.
33 Anger and fury are both of them abominable, and the sinful man shall be subject to them.	33 L'ira, e il furore con l'una, e l'altro da aversi in esecrazione, e l'uom peccatore li avrà seco.
