¹ Hear therefore, O Job, my speeches, and hearken to all my words.	¹ Ora dunque, Giobbe, ascolta, ti prego, i miei ragionamenti, E porgi gli orecchi a tutte le mie parole.
² Behold now I have opened my mouth, let my tongue speak within my jaws.	² Ecco, ora io ho aperta la mia bocca, La mia lingua parla nel mio palato.
³ My words are from my upright heart, and my lips shall speak a pure sentence.	³ Le mie parole saranno secondo la dirittura del mio cuore; E le mie labbra proferiranno scienza pura.
⁴ The spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.	⁴ Lo Spirito di Dio mi ha fatto, E l’alito dell’Onnipotente mi ha data la vita.
⁵ If thou canst, answer me, and stand up against my face.	⁵ Se tu puoi, rispondimi; Mettiti in ordine contro a me, e presentati pure.
⁶ Behold God hath made me as well as thee, and of the same clay I also was formed.	⁶ Ecco, io sono a Dio, come tu; Anch’io sono stato tratto dal fango.
⁷ But yet let not my wonder terrify thee, and let not my eloquence be burdensome to thee.	⁷ Ecco, il mio spavento non ti sgomenterà, E la mia mano non ti sarà grave addosso
⁸ Now thou has said in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words :	⁸ Tu hai pur detto, udendolo io, Ed io ho intesa la voce delle parole:
⁹ I am clean, and without sin : I am unspotted, and there is no iniquity in me.	⁹ Io son puro, senza misfatto; Io son netto, e non vi è iniquità in me;
¹⁰ Because he hath found complaints against me, therefore he hath counted me for his enemy.	¹⁰ Ecco, egli trova delle occasioni contro a me; Egli mi reputa per suo nemico;
¹¹ He hath put my feet in the stocks, he hath observed all my paths.	¹¹ Egli ha messi i miei piedi ne’ ceppi, Egli spia tutti i miei sentieri.
¹² Now this is the thing in which thou art not justified : I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.	¹² Ecco, in questo tu non sei stato giusto; io ti risponderò; Perciocchè Iddio è vie maggiore che l’uomo.
¹³ Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words?	¹³ Perchè hai tu conteso con lui, Perchè egli non dichiara tutte le sue ragioni?
¹⁴ God speaketh once, and repeateth not the selfsame thing the second time.	¹⁴ Egli è ben vero, che talora Iddio parla una volta, E due, a chi non vi ha atteso.
¹⁵ By a dream in a vision by night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, and they are sleeping in their beds :	¹⁵ In sogno, in vision notturna, Quando il più profondo sonno cade in su gli uomini, Quando essi son tutti sonnacchiosi sopra i lor letti;
¹⁶ Then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn.	¹⁶ Allora egli apre loro l’orecchio, E suggella il lor castigo;
¹⁷ That he may withdraw a man from the things he is doing, and may deliver him from pride.	¹⁷ Per istorre l’uomo dalle opere sue, E per far che la superbia dell’uomo non apparisca più;
¹⁸ Rescuing his soul from corruption : and his life from passing to the sword.	¹⁸ Per iscampar l’anima sua dalla fossa, E far che la sua vita non passi per la spada
¹⁹ He rebuketh also by sorrow in the bed, and he maketh all his bones to wither.	¹⁹ Ma talora altresì l’uomo è castigato con dolori sopra il suo letto, E tutte le sue ossa di grave malattia;
²⁰ Bread becometh abominable to him in his life, and to his soul the meat which before he desired.	²⁰ E la sua vita gli fa abbominare il cibo, E l’anima sua la vivanda desiderabile;
²¹ His flesh shall be consumed away, and his bones that were covered shall be made bare.	²¹ La sua carne è consumata, talchè non apparisce più; E le sue ossa, che prima non si vedevano, spuntano fuori;
²² His soul hath drawn near to corruption, and his life to the destroyers.	²² E l’anima sua si accosta alla fossa, E la vita sua a’ mali mortali.
²³ If there shall be an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare man's uprightness,	²³ Ma se allora vi è appresso di lui alcun messo, un parlatore, Uno d’infra mille, Per dichiarare all’uomo il suo dovere;
²⁴ He shall have mercy on him, and shall say : Deliver him, that he may not go down to corruption : I have found wherein I may be merciful to him.	²⁴ Iddio gli farà grazia, e dirà: Riscuotilo, che non iscenda alla fossa; Io ho trovato il riscatto.
²⁵ His flesh is consumed with punishment, let him return to the days of his youth.	²⁵ La sua carne diventerà morbida, più che non è in fanciullezza; Egli ritornerà a’ dì della sua giovanezza.
²⁶ He shall pray to God, and he will be gracious to him : and he shall see his face with joy, and he will render to man his justice.	²⁶ Egli supplicherà a Dio, ed egli gli sarà placato, E gli farà veder la sua faccia con giubilo, E renderà all’uomo la sua giustizia.
²⁷ He shall look upon men, and shall say : I have sinned, and indeed I have offended, and I have not received what I have deserved.	²⁷ Ed esso poi si volgerà verso gli uomini, e dirà: Io avea peccato, ed avea pervertita la dirittura, E ciò non mi ha punto giovato.
²⁸ He hath delivered his soul from going into destruction, that it may live and see the light.	²⁸ Così Iddio riscoterà l’anima sua, che non passi nella fossa, E la vita sua vedrà la luce
²⁹ Behold, all these things God worketh three times within every one.	²⁹ Ecco, Iddio opera tutte queste cose Due e tre volte inverso l’uomo;
³⁰ That he may withdraw their souls from corruption, and enlighten them with the light of the living.	³⁰ Per ritrarre l’anima sua dalla fossa, Acciocchè sia illuminata della luce de’ viventi.
³¹ Attend, Job, and hearken to me : and hold thy peace, whilst I speak.	³¹ Attendi, o Giobbe, ascoltami; Taci, ed io parlerò.
³² But if thou hast any thing to say, answer me, speak : for I would have thee to appear just.	³² Se tu hai alcuna cosa da dire, rispondimi; Parla, perciocchè io desidero giustificarti.
³³ And if thou have not, hear me : hold thy peace, and I will teach thee wisdom.	³³ Se no, ascoltami tu; Taci, ed io t’insegnerò la sapienza
