1 Now it came to pass, when the nations round about heard that the altar and the sanctuary were built up as before, that they were exceeding angry.	1 Als aber die Völker ringsum hörten, dass die Juden den Altar neu errichtet und das Heiligtum wieder geweiht hatten, sodass alles war wie früher, gerieten sie in heftigen Zorn.
2 And they thought to destroy the generation of Jacob that were among them, and they began to kill some of the people, and to persecute them.	2 Sie beschlossen, alle aus dem Stamm Jakobs, die bei ihnen wohnten, auszurotten, und begannen, im Volk Tod und Verderben zu verbreiten.
3 Then Judas fought against the children of Esau in Idumea, and them that were in Acrabathane: because they beset the Israelites around about, and he made a great slaughter of them.	3 Da griff Judas die Nachkommen Esaus an, die jenen Teil Idumäas bewohnten, der Akrabattene heißt; sie hatten nämlich die Grenze nach Israel abgeriegelt. Er brachte ihnen eine schwere Niederlage bei, ließ sie seine Macht fühlen und ihren Besitz plündern.
4 And he remembered the malice of the children of Bean: who were a snare and a stumblingblock to the people, by lying in wait for them in the way.	4 Auch dachte er daran, welche Untaten die Beoniter begangen hatten; sie hatten nämlich den Juden an den Wegen aufgelauert und waren für das Volk wie ein Netz und eine Falle gewesen.
5 And they were shut up by him in towers, and he set upon them, and devoted them to utter destruction, and burnt their towers with fire, and all that were in them.	5 Daher schloss er sie jetzt in ihre Fliehtürme ein und belagerte sie; er weihte sie dem Untergang und verbrannte die Türme mit allen, die darin waren.
6 Then he passed over to the children of Ammon, where he found a mighty power, and much people, and Timotheus was their captain:	6 Dann zog er hinüber gegen die Ammoniter. Er traf auf eine starke Streitmacht mit vielen Kriegern; ihr Anführer war Timotheus.
7 And he fought many battles with them, and they were discomfited in their sight, and he smote them:	7 Judas verwickelte sie in zahlreiche Gefechte und sie wurden von ihm vernichtend geschlagen und besiegt.
8 And he took the city of Gazer and her towns, and returned into Judea.	8 Er eroberte auch die Stadt Jaser und ihre Tochterstädte. Dann kehrte er nach Judäa zurück.
9 And the Gentiles that were in Galaad, assembled themselves together against the Israelites that were in their quarters to destroy them: and they fled into the fortress of Datheman.	9 Da rotteten sich die Völker des Landes Gilead gegen die Israeliten, die in ihrem Gebiet lebten, zusammen, um sie zu töten. Doch diese konnten sich in die Festung Datema flüchten.
10 And they sent letters to Judas and his brethren, saying, The heathens that are round about are gathered together against us, to destroy us:	10 Sie schrieben an Judas und seine Brüder einen Brief mit folgendem Inhalt: Die Völker ringsum haben sich gegen uns zusammengerottet, um uns zu vernichten.
11 And they are preparing to come, and to take the fortress into which we are fled: and Timotheus is the captain of their host.	11 Sie stehen bereit, um zu kommen und die Festung zu erobern, in die wir geflohen sind. Timotheus führt ihre Streitkräfte an.
12 Now therefore come, and deliver us out of their hands, for many of us are slain.	12 Darum komm her und rette uns aus ihrer Gewalt, denn viele von uns sind schon gefallen.
13 And all our brethren that were in the places of Tubin, are killed: and they have carried away their wives, and their children, captives, and taken their spoils, and they have slain there almost a thousand men.	13 Auch unsere Brüder, die unter den Leuten von Tubi lebten, hat man umgebracht, ihre Frauen gefangen genommen, ihre Kinder und ihren Besitz geraubt. Etwa tausend Männer sind dort umgekommen.
14 And while they were yet reading these letters, behold there came other messengers out Galilee with their garments rent, who related according to these words:	14 Judas und seine Brüder hatten den Brief noch nicht zu Ende gelesen, da kamen andere Boten aus Galiläa in zerrissenen Kleidern und brachten ihnen die Nachricht:
15 Saying, that they of Ptolemais, and of Tyre, and of Sidon, were assembled against them, and all Galilee is filled with strangers, in order to consume us.	15 Die Einwohner von Ptolemaïs, Tyrus und Sidon und dem ganzen oberen Galiläa, soweit es Fremdstämmige bewohnen, haben sich zusammengetan, um uns auszurotten.
16 Now when Judas and all the people heard these words, a great assembly met together to consider what they should do for their brethren that were in trouble, and were assaulted by them.	16 Als Judas und das Volk das hörten, beriefen sie eine große Versammlung ein, um zu beraten, was sie für ihre bedrängten Brüder tun sollten, die von den Feinden angegriffen wurden.
17 And Judas said to Simon his brother: Choose thee men, and go, and deliver they brethren in Galilee: and I, and my brother Jonathan will go into the country of Galaad.	17 Judas sagte zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Such dir geeignete Männer aus, mach dich auf den Weg und befrei deine Brüder in Galiläa; ich und mein Bruder Jonatan wollen nach Gilead ziehen.
18 And he left Joseph the son of Zacharias, and Azarias captains of the people with the remnant of the army in Judea to keep it:	18 Als Anführer des Volkes ließ er Josef, den Sohn Secharjas, und Asarja mit dem Rest des Heeres zur Bewachung Judäas zurück.
19 And he commanded them, saying: Take ye the charge of this people: but make no war against the heathens, till we return.	19 Er gab ihnen den Befehl: Übernehmt die Führung dieser Leute, aber lasst euch in keinen Kampf mit fremden Völkern ein, bevor wir zurückgekehrt sind.
20 Now three thousand men were alloted to Simon, to go into Gallilee: and eight thousand to Judas to go into the land of Galaad.	20 Simeon erhielt dreitausend Mann zugeteilt, mit denen er nach Galiläa ziehen sollte, Judas dagegen achttausend Mann für Gilead.
21 And Simon went into Galilee, and fought many battles with the heathens: and the heathens were discomfited before his face, and he pursued them even to the gate of Ptolemais.	21 Simeon zog also nach Galiläa. Dort lieferte er den fremden Völkern zahlreiche Gefechte und sie wurden vor seinen Augen vernichtend geschlagen.
22 And there fell of the heathens almost three thousand men, and he took the spoils of them,	22 Er verfolgte sie bis an die Tore von Ptolemaïs. Von den fremden Völkern fielen ungefähr dreitausend Mann und Simeon machte reiche Beute bei ihnen.
23 And he took with him those that were in Galilee and in Arbatis with their wives, and children, and all that they had, and he brought them into Judea with great joy.	23 Dann führte er die Juden aus Galiläa und Arbatta mit ihren Frauen und Kindern und ihrem ganzen Besitz unter großem Jubel nach Judäa zurück.
24 And Judas Machabeus, and Jonathan his brother passed over the Jordan, and went three days' journey through the desert.	24 Judas, der Makkabäer, und sein Bruder Jonatan hatten indessen den Jordan überschritten und waren drei Tagesmärsche durch die Steppe gezogen.
25 And the Nabutheans met them, and received them in a peaceable manner, and told them all that happened to their brethren in the land of Galaad,	25 Dort trafen sie auf die Nabatäer, die ihnen freundlich begegneten und ihnen alles erzählten, was ihren Brüdern in Gilead zugestoßen war.
26 And that many of them were shut up in Barasa, and in Bosor, and in Alima, and in Casphor, and in Mageth, and in Carnaim: all these strong and great cities.	26 Viele von ihnen würden in Bosora, Bosor, Alema, Kaspin, Maked und Karnajim festgehalten, lauter großen, befestigten Städten.
27 Yea, and that they were kept shut up in the rest of the cities of Galaad, and that they had appointed to bring their army on the morrow near to these cities, and to take them and to destroy them all in one day.	27 Auch in den übrigen Städten Gileads halte man sie fest und morgen wolle man sich anschicken, die Festungen zu belagern und zu erstürmen. Alle sollten an einem einzigen Tag umgebracht werden.
28 Then Judas and his army suddenly turned their march into the desert, to Bosor, and took the city: and he slew every male by the edge of the sword, and took all their spoils, and burnt it with fire.	28 Da kehrte Judas mit seinem Heer überraschend um. Er nahm den Weg durch die Steppe von Bosora, eroberte die Stadt, erschlug mit scharfem Schwert die gesamte männliche Bevölkerung, plünderte die Stadt völlig aus und brannte sie nieder.
29 And they removed from thence by night, and went till they came to the fortress.	29 Noch in der gleichen Nacht brach er wieder auf und sie zogen bis vor die Festung Datema.
30 And it came to pass that early in the morning, when they lifted up their eyes, behold there were people without number, carrying ladders and engines to take the fortress, and assault them.	30 Als sie gegen Morgen Ausschau hielten, da sahen sie ein unzählbar großes Heer; die Soldaten schleppten Sturmleitern und Belagerungsmaschinen heran, um die Festung zu erstürmen und gingen schon zum Angriff gegen die Juden über.
31 And Judas saw that the fight was begun, and the cry of the battle went up to heaven like a trumpet, and a great cry out of the city:	31 Judas sah, dass der Kampf bereits begonnen hatte: Der Lärm aus der Stadt, Trompetengeschmetter und lautes Geschrei drangen bis zum Himmel.
32 And he said to his host: Fight ye to day for your brethren.	32 Da rief er den Männern in seinem Heer zu: Kämpft heute für unsere Brüder!
33 And he came with three companies behind them, and they sounded their trumpets, and cried out in prayer.	33 Dann griff er die Feinde mit drei Abteilungen von hinten an; seine Leute bliesen die Trompeten und beteten laut.
34 And the host of Timotheus understood that it was Machabeus, and they fled away before his face: and they made a great slaughter of them: and there fell of them in that day almost eight thousand men.	34 Sobald das Heer des Timotheus merkte, dass es der Makkabäer war, liefen sie vor ihm davon. Er brachte ihnen eine schwere Niederlage bei; etwa achttausend Mann von ihnen fielen an diesem Tag.
35 And Judas turned aside to Maspha, and assaulted, and took it, and he slew every male thereof, and took the spoils thereof, and burnt it with fire.	35 Danach wandte sich Judas gegen Alema. Er griff die Stadt an und eroberte sie, erschlug die gesamte männliche Bevölkerung, ließ die Stadt plündern und brannte sie nieder.
36 From thence he marched, and took Casbon, and Mageth, and Bosor, and the rest of the cities of Galaad.	36 Von dort brach er auf und eroberte Kaspin, Maked, Bosor und die übrigen Städte Gileads.
37 But after this Timotheus gathered another army, and camped over against Raphon beyond the torrent.	37 Nach diesen Ereignissen sammelte Timotheus ein neues Heer und schlug gegenüber von Rafon, jenseits der Schlucht, sein Lager auf.
38 And Judas sent men to view the army: and they brought him word, saying: All the nations, that are round about us, are assembled unto him an army exceeding great:	38 Judas schickte Späher aus, die das Lager erkunden sollten. Sie meldeten ihm: Alle Völker, die rings um uns wohnen, sind zu ihm gestoßen; es ist ein gewaltiges Heer.
39 And they have hired the Arabians to help them, and they have pitched their tents beyond the torrent, ready to come to fight against thee. And Judas went to meet them.	39 Auch arabische Hilfstruppen hat er angeworben. Sie haben auf der anderen Seite der Schlucht ihr Lager bezogen und stehen bereit, gegen dich zum Kampf auszurücken. Da zog Judas ihnen entgegen.
40 And Timotheus said to the captains of his army: When Judas and his army come near the torrent of water, if he pass over unto us first, we shall not be able to withstand him: for he will certainly prevail over us.	40 Als er sich mit seinem Heer dem Bach, der durch die Schlucht führte, näherte, sagte Timotheus zu seinen Heerführern: Wenn er zuerst über den Bach zu uns herüberkommt, können wir ihm nicht standhalten; dann wird er uns sicherlich überwältigen.
41 But if he be afraid to pass over, and camp on the other side of the river, we will pass over to them and shall prevail against him.	41 Wenn er aber Angst hat und sein Lager jenseits des Baches aufschlägt, dann gehen wir zu ihm hinüber und werden ihn überwältigen.
42 Now when Judas came near the torrent of water, he set the scribes of the people by the torrent, and commanded them, saying: Suffer no man to stay behind: but let all come to the battle.	42 Als Judas sich dem Gebirgsbach genähert hatte, ließ er Heeresschreiber in der Schlucht antreten und gab ihnen den Befehl: Niemand darf hier Halt machen, sondern alle sollen zum Kampf vorrücken.
43 And he passed over to them first, and all the people after him, and all the heathens were discomfited before them, and they threw away their weapons, and fled to the temple that was in Carnaim.	43 Er selbst ging als erster über den Bach, den Feinden entgegen, und alle seine Krieger folgten ihm. Und die fremden Völker wurden von ihm vernichtend geschlagen; sie warfen ihre Waffen weg und flüchteten sich in das Heiligtum von Karnajim.
44 And he took that city, and the temple he burnt with fire, with all things that were therein: and Carnaim was subdued, and could not stand against the face of Judas.	44 Aber die Juden eroberten die Stadt und verbrannten das Heiligtum mit allen, die darin waren. So wurde Karnajim gedemütigt und niemand konnte Judas mehr Widerstand leisten.
45 And Judas gathered together all the Israelites that were in the land of Galaad, from the least even to the greatest, and their wives, and children, and an army exceeding great, to come into the land of Juda.	45 Nun sammelte Judas alle Israeliten, die in Gilead lebten, jung und alt, mit ihren Frauen und Kindern und ihrem Besitz, eine gewaltige Menschenmenge, um mit ihnen nach Judäa zu ziehen.
46 And they came as far as Ephron: now this was a great city situate in the way, strongly fortified, and there was no means to turn from it on the right hand or on the left, but the way was through the midst of it.	46 Sie kamen bis Efron. Diese große und stark befestigte Stadt lag auf ihrem Weg. Man konnte sie weder links noch rechts umgehen, sondern musste mitten durch sie hindurchziehen.
47 And they that were in the city, shut themselves in, and stopped up the gates with stones: and Judas sent to them with peaceable words,	47 Aber die Einwohner der Stadt schlossen vor ihnen die Tore und versperrten sie außerdem mit Steinen.
48 Saying: Let us pass through your land, to go into our country: and no man shall hurt you: we will only pass through on foot. But they would not open to them.	48 Da schickte Judas Unterhändler zu ihnen mit dem friedlichen Vorschlag: Wir wollen durch euer Land ziehen, um in unser Land zu kommen. Keiner wird euch etwas Böses tun; wir wollen nur durchmarschieren. Aber die Einwohner wollten ihnen die Tore nicht öffnen.
49 Then Judas commanded proclamation to be made in the camp, that they should make an assault every man in the place where he was.	49 Nun ließ Judas im Heer den Befehl ausrufen, jeder solle dort Stellung beziehen, wo er gerade sei.
50 And the men of the army drew near, and he assaulted that city all the day, and all the night, and the city was delivered into his hands:	50 Da stellten sich die Krieger auf und Judas ließ die Stadt den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht hindurch angreifen, bis sie fiel.
51 And they slew every male with the edge of the sword, and he razed the city, and took the spoils thereof, and passed through all the city over them that were slain.	51 Er erschlug ihre gesamte männliche Bevölkerung mit scharfem Schwert, zerstörte die Stadt völlig und ließ sie plündern. Dann marschierte er über die Leichen der Erschlagenen hinweg durch die Stadt.
52 Then they passed over the Jordan to the great plain that is over against Bethsan.	52 Sie überquerten den Jordan in der großen Ebene gegenüber von Bet-Schean.
53 And Judas gathered together the hindmost, and he exhorted the people all the way through, till they came into the land of Juda.	53 Judas sorgte dafür, dass die Nachzügler zusammenblieben, und auf dem ganzen Weg sprach er den Leuten Mut zu, bis sie Judäa erreichten.
54 And they went up to mount Sion with joy and gladness, and offered holocausts, because not one of them was slain, till they had returned in peace.	54 Dann zogen sie mit Jubel und Freude zum Berg Zion hinauf und brachten dort Brandopfer dar; denn keiner von ihnen war gefallen, alle waren wohlbehalten heimgekehrt.
55 Now in the days that Judas and Jonathan were in the land of Galaad, and Simon his brother in Galilee before Ptolemais,	55 Zu der Zeit, als Judas und Jonatan in Gilead waren und als sein Bruder Simeon in Galiläa vor Ptolemaïs lag,
56 Joseph the son of Zacharias, and Azarias captain of the soldiers, heard of the good success, and the battles that were fought.	56 hörten die Heerführer Josef, der Sohn Secharjas, und Asarja von den kühnen Taten, die jene vollbracht hatten.
57 And he said: Let us also get us a name, and let us go fight against the Gentiles that are round about us.	57 Da sagten sie: Auch wir wollen uns einen Namen machen und einen Feldzug gegen die fremden Völker ringsum führen.
58 And he gave charge to them that were in his army, and they went towards Jamnia.	58 Sie gaben also den Soldaten, die sie bei sich hatten, den Befehl, gegen Jamnia zu ziehen.
59 And Gorgias and his men went out of the city, to give them battle.	59 Aber Gorgias und seine Männer rückten ihnen aus der Stadt zum Kampf entgegen.
60 And Joseph and Azarias were put to flight, and were pursued unto the borders of Judea: and there fell, on that day, of the people of Israel about two thousand men, and there was a great overthrow of the people:	60 Josef und Asarja wurden geschlagen und bis an die Grenze von Judäa verfolgt. An jenem Tag fielen fast zweitausend aus dem Volk Israel.
61 Because they did not hearken to Judas, and his brethren, thinking that they should do manfully.	61 Das Volk hatte eine schwere Niederlage erlitten, weil sie nicht auf Judas und seine Brüder gehört hatten, sondern sich einbildeten, auch sie könnten große Taten vollbringen.
62 But they were not of the seed of those men by whom salvation was brought to Israel.	62 Doch sie waren nicht aus dem Geschlecht derer, die mit der Rettung Israels beauftragt waren.
63 And the men of Juda were magnified exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and of all the nations where their name was heard.	63 Der große Judas und seine Brüder dagegen erwarben sich hohen Ruhm bei ganz Israel und bei allen Völkern, überall wo ihr Name bekannt wurde.
64 And people assembled to them with joyful acclamations.	64 Die Leute kamen herbei, um sie zu beglückwünschen.
65 Then Judas and his brethren went forth and attacked the children of Esau, in the land toward the south, and he took Chebron, and her towns: and he burnt the walls thereof and the towers all round it.	65 Judas und seine Brüder zogen auch zum Kampf gegen die Nachkommen Esaus im Süden. Er schlug Hebron und seine Tochterstädte, eroberte ihre Festungen und brannte ihre Türme ringsum nieder.
66 And he removed his camp to go into the land of the aliens, and he went through Samaria.	66 Dann zog er gegen das Philisterland. Als das Heer dabei durch Marescha kam,
67 In that day some priests fell in battle, while desiring to do manfully they went out unadvisedly to fight.	67 fielen einige Priester im Kampf. Sie waren schlecht beraten gewesen, in den Krieg zu ziehen, um Heldentaten zu vollbringen.
68 And Judas turned to Azotus into the land of the strangers, and he threw down their altars, and he burnt the statues of their gods with fire: and he took the spoils of the cities, and returned into the land of Juda.	68 Dann machte Judas eine Ausweichbewegung und zog nach Aschdod im Land der Philister. Dort zerstörte er die Altäre der Philister, verbrannte ihre Götterbilder, plünderte die Städte und kehrte dann nach Judäa zurück.
