Exodus 22

DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 If any man steal an ox or a sheep, and kill or sell it: he shall restore five oxen for one ox, and four sheep for one sheep.	1 Si el ladrón, sorprendido en el momento de forzar una casa, es herido de muerte, no hay delito de homicidio.
2 If a thief be found breaking open a house or undermining it, and be wounded so as to die: he that slew him shall not be guilty of blood.	2 Pero si ya había salido el sol, entonces hay delito de homicidio. El ladrón está obligado a restituir la totalidad de lo robado; si no dispone de medios para hacerlo, deberá ser vendido para compensar por su robo.
3 But if he did this when the sun is risen, he hath committed murder, and he shall die. If he have not wherewith to make restitution for the theft, he shall be sold.	3 Si lo robado –un buey, un asno o una oveja– se encuentra vivo en su poder, tendrá que restituir el doble.
4 If that which he stole be found with him, alive, either ox, or ass, or sheep: he shall restore double.	4 Si alguien hace pastar su ganado en un campo o una viña, y lo deja suelto de manera que este va a pastar también en campo ajeno, deberá indemnizar con los mejores productos de su campo y de su viña.
5 If any man hurt a field or a vineyard, and put in his beast to feed upon that which is other men's: he shall restore the best of whatsoever he hath in his own field, or in his vineyard, according to the estimation of the damage.	5 Si un fuego se propaga y alcanza los matorrales, y así se destruye la cosecha ya amontonada o la que aún no había sido segada o el campo, el causante del incendio deberá indemnizar.
6 If a fire breaking out light upon thorns, and catch stacks of corn, or corn standing in the fields, he that kindled the fire shall make good the loss.	6 Si un hombre entrega a otro en depósito dinero o algún objeto, y alguien los roba de la casa de este último, el ladrón, si es descubierto, restituirá el doble.
7 If a man deliver money, or any vessel unto his friend to keep, and they be stolen away from him that received them: if the thief be found he shall restore double:	7 Si no se logra descubrir al ladrón, el dueño de la casa se presentará ante Dios para atestiguar que no ha puesto su mano sobre los bienes del otro.
8 If the thief be not known, the master of the house shall be brought to the gods, and shall swear that he did not lay his hand upon his neighbour's goods,	8 En todo asunto delictivo referente a un buey, un asno, una oveja, un traje o cualquier objeto desaparecido, del cual su propietario pueda decir: «Indudablemente es este», el litigio será llevado ante Dios; y aquel a quien Dios declare culpable, restituirá al otro el doble.
9 To do any fraud, either in ox, or in ass, or sheep, or raiment, or any thing that may bring damage: the cause of both parties shall come to the gods: and if they give judgment, he shall restore double to his neighbour.	9 Si alguien entrega a otra persona un asno, un buey, una oveja o cualquier otro animal para su custodia, y el animal muere, sufre una fractura o es sustraído en ausencia de testigos,
10 If a man deliver ass, ox, sheep, or any beast, to his neighbour's custody, and it die, or be hurt, or be taken by enemies, and no man saw it:	10 el depositario deber[a jurar por el Señor que no ha puesto su mano sobre la propiedad ajena. El propietario aceptará el juramento, y aquel no estará obligado a indemnizar.
11 There shall be an oath between them, that he did not put forth his hand to his neighbour's goods: and the owner shall accept of the oath; and he shall not be compelled to make restitution.	11 Pero si el animal fue robado estando presente el depositario, deberá indemnizar.
12 But if it were taken away by stealth, he shall make the loss good to the owner.	12 Si el animal ha sido despedazado por una fiera, traerá como testimonio los despojos y no tendrá que indemnizar por él.
13 If it were eaten by a beast, let him bring to him that which was slain, and he shall not make restitution.	13 Si alguien pide prestado un animal, y este sufre una fractura o muere en ausencia de su dueño, el que lo recibió en préstamo deberá indemnizar.
14 If a man borrow of his neighbour any of these things, and it be hurt or die, the owner not being present, he shall be obliged to make restitution.	14 Si su dueño estaba presente, no estará obligado a hacerlo. Si lo había alquilado, le pagara el precio del alquiler.
15 But if the owner be present, he shall not make restitution, especially if it were hired and came for the hire of his work.	15 Si un hombre seduce a una mujer virgen que no está desposada y se acuesta con ella, deberá tomarla por esposa pagando el precio debido.
16 If a man seduce a virgin not yet espoused, and lie with her: he shall endow her, and have her to wife.	16 Si el padre de la joven se niega a dársela, el seductor pagará una suma equivalente al precio estipulado para casarse con una virgen.
17 If the maid's father will not give her to him, he shall give money according to the dowry, which virgins are wont to receive.	17 No dejarás vivir a la hechicera.
18 Wizards thou shalt not suffer to live.	18 El que tenga trato sexual con una bestia será castigado con la muerte.
19 Whosoever copulateth with a beast shall be put to death.	19 El que ofrezca sacrificios a otro dios que no sea el Señor, será condenado al exterminio.
20 He that sacrificeth to gods, shall be put to death, save only to the Lord.	20 No maltratarás al extranjero ni lo oprimirás, porque ustedes fueron extranjeros en Egipto.
21 Thou shalt not molest a stranger, nor afflict him: for yourselves also were strangers in the land of Egypt.	21 No harás daño a la viuda ni al huérfano.
22 You shall not hurt a widow or an orphan.	22 Si les haces daño y ellos me piden auxilio, yo escucharé su clamor.
23 If you hurt them they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry:	23 Entonces arderá mi ira, y yo los mataré a ustedes con la espada; sus mujeres quedará viudas, y sus hijos huérfanos.
24 And my rage shall be enkindled, and I will strike you with the sword, and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.	24 Si prestas dinero a un miembro de mi pueblo, al pobre que vive a tu lado, no te comportarás con él como un usurero, no le exigirás interés.
25 If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor, that dwelleth with thee, thou shalt not be hard upon them as an extortioner, nor oppress them with usuries.	25 Si tomas en prenda el manto de tu prójimo, devuélveselo antes que se ponga el sol,
26 If thou take of thy neighbour a garment in pledge, thou shalt give it him again before sunset.	26 porque ese es su único abrigo y el vestido de su cuerpo. De lo contrario, ¿con qué dormirá? Y si él me invoca, yo lo escucharé, porque soy compasivo.
27 For that same is the only thing wherewith he is covered, the clothing of his body, neither hath he any other to sleep in: if he cry to me, I will hear him, because I am compassionate.	27 No blasfemarás contra Dios, ni maldecirás a un jefe de tu pueblo.
28 Thou shalt not speak ill of the gods, and the prince of thy people thou shalt not curse.	28 No demorarás en ofrecer las primicias de la cosecha y de la vendimia. Me darás a tu hijo primogénito.
29 Thou shalt not delay to pay thy tithes and thy firstfruits: thou shalt give the firstborn of thy sons to me.	29 Lo mismo deberás hacer con tu ganado mayor y tu ganado menor: el primogénito estará siete días con su madre, y al octavo día me lo darás.
30 Thou shalt do the same with the firstborn of thy oxen also and sheep: seven days let it be with its dam, the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.	30 Ustedes estarán consagrados a mí. No coman carne de un animal despedazado por una fiera, sino arrójenla a los perros.
31 You shall be holy men to me: the flesh that beasts have tasted of before, you shall not eat, but shall cast it to the dogs.
