¹ Now Arphaxad king of the Medes had brought many nations under his dominions, and he built a very strong city, which he called Ecbatana,	¹ Arfaxad re di Media, dopo aver assoggettate molte nazioni al suo impero, edificò una città fortissima che chiamò Ecbatana.
² Of stones squared and hewed: he made the walls thereof seventy cubits broad, and thirty cubits high, and the towers thereof he made a hundred cubits high. But on the square of them, each side was extended the space of twenty feet.	² La fece con pietre quadrate e tagliate, con mura larghe settanta cubiti e alte trenta, con torri alte cento cubiti.
³ And he made the gates thereof according to the height of the towers:	³ Le torri eran quadrate, avevan ciascun lato largo venti piedi; le porte l'aveva fatte proporzionate all'altezza delle torri.
⁴ And he gloried as a mighty one in the force of his army and in the glory of his chariots.	⁴ Egli si gloriava come invincibile per la potenza del suo esercito e per la gloria delle sue quadrighe.
⁵ Now in the twelfth year of his reign, Nabuchodonosor king of the Assyrians, who reigned in Ninive the great city, fought against Arphaxad and overcame him,	⁵ Ma, l'anno duodecimo del suo regno, Nabucodonosor, re degli Assiri, che regnava nella gran città di Ninive, combattè contro Arfaxad, e lo vinse
⁶ In the great plain which is called Ragua, about the Euphrates, and the Tigris, and the Jadason, in the plain of Erioch the king of the Elicians.	⁶ nella gran pianura detta Ragau, tra l'Eufrate, il Tigri e il Iaadason, nella pianura di Erioc, re degli Elici.
⁷ Then was the kingdom of Nabuchodonosor exalted, and his heart was elevated: and he sent to all that dwelt in Cilicia and Damascus, and Libanus,	⁷ Allora il regno di Nabucodonosor fu esaltato, ed egli, insuperbitosi nel suo cuore, mandò ambasciatori a tutti quelli che abitavano la Cilicia, Damasco, il Libano,
⁸ And to the nations that are in Carmelus, and Cedar, and to the inhabitants of Galilee in the great plain of Asdrelon,	⁸ e ai popoli del Carmelo e di Cedar, e agli abitanti della Galilea, nella gran pianura di Esdrelon,
⁹ And to all that were in Samaria, and beyond the river Jordan even to Jerusalem, and all the land of Jesse till you come to the borders of Ethiopia.	⁹ e a tutti quelli che erano nella Samaria, e di là dal Giordano fino a Gerusalemme, e in tutta la terra di Iesse, sino ai confini d'Etiopia.
¹⁰ To all these Nabuchodonosor king of the Assyrians, sent messengers:	¹⁰ A tutti questi Nabucodonosor re d'Assiria mandò ambasciatori;
¹¹ But they all with one mind refused, and sent them back empty, and rejected them without honour.	¹¹ ma tutti, di comune accordo, si opposero, li rimandarono a mani vuote, li cacciarono ignorami osamente.
¹² Then king Nabuchodonosor being angry against all that land, swore by his throne and kingdom that he would revenge himself of all those countries.	¹² Allora il re Nabucodonosor, sdegnato contro tutti quei paesi, giurò pel suo trono e pel suo regno di prender vendetta sopra tutte quelle regioni.
