1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of the reign of Solomon over Israel, in the month Zio (the same is the second month), he began to build a house to the Lord.	1 En l’an 480 après la sortie des Israélites du pays d’Égypte, la quatrième année du règne de Salomon sur Israël, au second mois, le mois de Ziv, il mit en chantier la Maison, ou Temple de Yahvé.
2 And the house, which king Solomon built to the Lord, was threescore cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and thirty cubits in height.	2 Elle avait 60 coudées de long, 20 de large et 30 coudées de haut.
3 And there was a porch before the temple of twenty cubits in length, according to the measure of the breadth of the temple: and it was ten cubits in breadth before the face of the temple.	3 Le vestibule en avant du sanctuaire de la Maison avait 20 coudées de long dans le sens de la largeur de la Maison et 10 coudées de profondeur sur le devant de la Maison.
4 And he made in the temple oblique windows.	4 Les fenêtres de la Maison étaient garnies de grilles.
5 And upon the wall of the temple he built floors round about, in the walls of the house round about the temple and the oracle, and he made sides round about.	5 Le long des murs de la Maison, on construisit une galerie qui faisait le tour du Sanctuaire et du Saint des Saints. Tout autour s’ouvraient des chambres latérales.
6 The floor that was underneath, was five cubits in breadth, and the middle floor was six cubits in breadth, and the third door was seven cubits in breadth. And he put beams in the house round about on the outside, that they might not be fastened in the walls of the temple.	6 La galerie d’en-bas avait une largeur de 5 coudées, celle du milieu une largeur de 6 coudées, et la troisième une largeur de 7 coudées, car on avait disposé des retraits tout autour de la Maison à l’extérieur, pour ne pas entailler les murs.
7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stones hewed and made ready: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house when it was in building.	7 Pour construire la Maison, on se servit de pierres préparées dans les carrières; tout le temps de la construction on n’entendit dans la Maison ni marteau, ni hache, ni aucun outil de fer.
8 The door for the middle side was on the right hand of the house : and by winding stairs they went up to the middle room, and from the middle to the third.	8 L’entrée de la galerie inférieure était sur le côté droit de la Maison. On montait par des escaliers à la galerie intermédiaire et, de là, à la galerie supérieure.
9 So he built the house, and finished it: end he covered the house with roofs of cedar.	9 Salomon mit en chantier la Maison et il l’acheva. Il y mit un plafond avec des moulures et des panneaux de cèdres.
10 And he built a floor over all the house five cubits in height, and he covered the house with timber of cedar.	10 Il donna cinq coudées de hauteur à la galerie qui faisait le tour de la Maison. Elle tenait à la Maison par ses poutres de cèdre.
11 And the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying:	11 La parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Salomon, pour lui dire:
12 This house, which thou buildest, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments, walking in them, I will fulfil my word to thee which I spoke to David thy father.	12 “Tu bâtis cette Maison. Si tu marches selon mes lois et mets en pratique mes ordonnances, si tu observes mes commandements et règles sur eux ta conduite, cette Maison que tu construis me permettra de tenir la promesse que j’ai faite à ton père David:
13 And I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.	13 J’habiterai au milieu des Israélites et je n’abandonnerai pas mon peuple Israël.”
14 So Solomon built the house and finished it.	14 Salomon construisit la Maison et l’acheva.
15 And he built the walls of the house on the inside, with boards of cedar, from the floor of the house to the top of the walls, and to the roots, he covered it with boards of cedar on the inside: and he covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.	15 À l’intérieur, les murs étaient couverts depuis le sol jusqu’au plafond avec des planches de cèdres; tout l’intérieur était couvert de bois et le sol était couvert d’un plancher de cyprès.
16 And he built up twenty cubits with boards of cedar at the hinder part of the temple, from the floor to the top: and made the inner house of the oracle to be the holy of holies.	16 Le fond de la Maison était recouvert de planches de cèdre depuis le sol jusqu’au plafond: c’est là qu’il construisit le Saint des Saints.
17 And the temple itself before the doors of the oracle was forty cubits long.	17 La Maison en avant du Saint des Saints avait 40 coudées.
18 And all the house was covered within with cedar, having the turnings, and the joints thereof artfully wrought and carvings projecting out: all was covered with boards of cedar: and no stone could be seen in the wall at all.	18 À l’intérieur de la Maison le cèdre était sculpté en forme de coloquintes et de guirlandes de fleurs: tout était revêtu de cèdre et l’on ne voyait pas les pierres.
19 And he made the oracle in the midst of the house, in the inner part, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord.	19 On avait préparé le Saint des Saints au cœur de la Maison, à l’intérieur, pour y placer l’Arche d’Alliance de Yahvé.
20 Now the oracle was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in height. And he covered and overlaid it with most pure gold. And the altar also he covered with cedar.	20 En avant du Saint des Saints qui avait 20 coudées de long, 20 coudées de large et 20 coudées de haut, on dressa un autel de cèdre recouvert d’or fin.
21 And the house before the oracle he overlaid with most pure gold, and fastened on the plates with nails of gold.	21 Salomon revêtit d’or fin l’intérieur de la Maison et une chaîne plaquée d’or fermait le Saint des Saints.
22 And there was nothing in the temple that was not covered with gold: the whole altar of the oracle he covered also with gold.	22 Ainsi toute la Maison était recouverte d’or; il avait aussi recouvert d’or l’autel placé devant le Saint des Saints.
23 And he made in the oracle two cherubims of olive tree, of ten cubits in height.	23 Dans le Saint des Saints, il fit deux Chérubins de bois d’olivier sauvage de 10 coudées de haut.
24 One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits: that is, in all ten cubits, from the extremity of one wing to the extremity of the other wing.	24 Chacune des ailes de chérubin avait cinq coudées: cela faisait donc 10 coudées de l’extrémité d’une aile à l’extrémité de l’autre.

26 The second cherub also was ten cubits: and the measure, and the work was the same in both the cherubims:	26 La hauteur du premier, comme du deuxième chérubin, était de 10 coudées.
	27 Salomon plaça les chérubins au cœur de la Maison, les ailes déployées; l’aile du premier touchait l’un des murs et l’aile du second touchait l’autre mur, et leurs ailes se touchaient aile contre aile au milieu de la Maison.
28 That is to say, one cherub was ten cubits high, and in like manner the other cherub.	28 Salomon revêtit d’or les chérubins.
29 And he set the cherubims in the midst of the inner temple: and the cherubims stretched forth their wings, and the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall: and the other wings in the midst of the temple touched one another.	29 Il fit sculpter en relief sur tous les murs de la Maison, tout autour, à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur, des chérubins, des palmes et des fleurs.
30 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.	30 À l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur, le sol de la Maison était recouvert d’or.
31 And all the walls of the temple round about he carved with divers figures and carvings: and he made in them cherubims and palm trees, and divers representations, as it were standing out, and coming forth from the wall.	31 Les battants de la porte du Saint des Saints étaient en bois d’olivier sauvage, le linteau et les montants occupaient le cinquième de la porte,
32 And the floor of the house he also overlaid with gold within and without.	32 les deux battants en bois d’olivier sauvage étaient sculptés de chérubins, de palmes et de fleurs; tout était recouvert d’or, y compris les chérubins et les palmes.
33 And in the entrance of the oracle he made little doors of olive tree, and posts of five corners,	33 De même l’entrée du sanctuaire était garnie de montants en bois d’olivier sauvage, qui occupaient le quart de la porte.
34 And two doors of olive tree: and he carved upon them figures of cherubims, and figures of palm trees, and carvings very much projecting: and he overlaid them with gold: and he covered both the cherubims and the palm trees, and the other things with gold.	34 Les deux battants étaient en bois de cyprès; chacun d’eux était formé de deux panneaux qui s’articulaient;
35 And he made in the entrance of the temple posts of olive tree foursquare:	35 on y avait sculpté des chérubins, des palmes et des guirlandes de fleurs, le tout recouvert d’or.
36 And two doors of fir tree, one of each side : and each door was double, and so opened with folding leaves.	36 On construisit la cour intérieure de trois rangées de pierres de taille et d’une rangée de poutres de cèdres.
37 And he carved cherubims, and palm trees, and carved work standing very much out: and he overlaid all with golden plates in square work by rule.	37 La quatrième année, au mois de Ziv, on posa les fondements de la Maison de Yahvé.
38 And he built the inner court with three rows of polished stones, and one row of beams of cedar.	38 La onzième année, au mois de Boul, le huitième mois, le Temple fut achevé dans tous ses détails, selon le plan qu’on avait établi; Salomon construisit le Temple en sept ans.
39 In the fourth year was the house of the Lord founded in the month Zio:
